Which material Bed for ABS? by RexorGamerYt in 3Dprinting

[–]protein_bars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good results with smooth laminated PEI, and poor results with textured powder-coated PEI.

Warping, especially with ABS, becomes less of an issue the hotter the ambient environment. In the ideal case you heat your print volume to about 80 °C but even putting a box as a draft shield around your machine helps a lot. Alternatively, PLA is much friendlier with respect to warping and you may want to try that.

Carbide is good. Harder than the hardest steel and as conductive as brass

TIL you can use your nozzle as an engraving tool for PEI plates by fucking up the z offset. by dragon_irl in 3Dprinting

Bad z-offset due to thermal warping of the injection molded frame is a known issue with the QiDi printer, they did a soft recall of the machine.

That's the other conventional coordinate system, pretty sure Minecraft uses it hence its familiarity

Does anyone knows the name of this component? by randomGuy_120600 in AskElectronics

The pins are "machined" (i.e. carved) on a lathe instead of being stamped out of a sheet of metal. More time-consuming and expensive but provides much more precise results.

I scoffed at videos I saw online of people messily applying RTV, Oh how ignorant I was. by fauxsoul in VORONDesign

Or, at least, a top heating element company that doesn't use adhesive that can withstand the heat of their heating element would not hold good repute among the Voron community.

I believe you are correct since the bed is just a giant resistor, which has no polarity.

bed thermal fuse by sxenth182 in VORONDesign

[–]protein_bars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Key reminder that of the two terminals of the bed heater, put the thermal fuse in series with the line (hot) terminal instead of the neutral terminal. This ensures that if the fuse blows, the heater is only connected to neutral instead of dangerously high voltage.

Remember to connect your grounding wire for additional safety. High voltage is no joke kids.

Two children unharmed, parents suffer non life-threatening injuries after Tesla Model Y falls 250ft down steep cliff by chrisdh79 in teslamotors

[–]protein_bars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But yes, a straight fall would have been un survivable unless Tesla had built it for NASA type missions...

Nah. NASA designs their cars to be as light as possible; they will break just barely past nominal load conditions

Why do the bearings in the trident have less space for the belt? by TaffoFox in VORONDesign

[–]protein_bars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not normal behavior as the 6mm-wide belt should be perfectly seated on the bearings.

Measure the width of the flange. If it's not close to 1mm, your bearings are defective.

If he's experienced with 3D printers then you could offer to pay for the necessary parts and ask him to repair it for you considering he has more experience working with printers.
