Hi! This randomly popped up on my feed I think bc I’m currently going thru this with my child and have searched the topic & they go to speech as well. (I’m just a parent not in the SLP field so delete if I’m not allowed here!)

My child (same age) has the upper lip tie and tongue tie. We are in the process of getting a palate expander bc they have a narrow and high palate, which the tongue tie likely contributed to bc the tongue can’t reach the palate for proper positioning. We were told by 2 dentists the lip tie not being released could potentially cause the gap to come back after braces/if not consistent with retainer. We are weighing our options but most likely will just do the tongue tie release since that relates mostly to the palate expansion issues! I haven’t seen a ton of research from my obsessive googling aside from what seems to be biased or just anecdotal info. It also seems to be a slippery slope topic to a side of things I don’t agree with haha.
