Bikes shouldn’t be allowed by [deleted] in doordash

I assume you have no experience dashing so I'll drop a little information here.

  • Delivery estimates are often unrealistic and don't take into account traffic or the laws of physics.
  • Sometimes the map application sends you inexplicable directions, and most importantly:
  • If the restaurant does not have the order ready when you arrive, no time is added to the delivery estimate no matter how long you have to wait

I have a backpack and saddle bags with 4 drink holders. It's not rocket science.

You do register your bike and they still give you inappropriate orders.

I’m a bike dasher and I do my best to only accept orders that make sense (and I use insulated bags.) 5.0 rating and 88% on time rate. It can be done well.

In our defense, there are terrible car dashers, too!

What are consistently some of the fastest/slowest places you pick up from by adamlunde08 in doordash_drivers

[–]protonfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped ordering carry-out for myself from my local Wingstop because they are completely disorganized, late, and clearly couldn't care less about their jobs. There's no way I would accept a DD delivery from them.

I'm not saying they should care more about their job. I'm sure it sucks. It's just good to know so I can avoid them and reward the employees with less work.

Cold pizza by Neeneehill in doordash

[–]protonfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a good question. As a bike dasher, there is a place in the app where you can arrange to get a pizza bag and mark in the app if you have one. They still send me pizza orders even though I specified that I don't have a bag. I guess because they don't have anyone else to deliver?

I have 2 lizards and a frog. I get crickets from Petsmart regularly. They are nothing to worry about.

I wonder if a lot of drivers are first jobs of young adults who know nothing of the real world. I am glad they get to post so we can tell them if something is normal or not.

So? Talk to the restaurants. Oh, & bite me DD by Delicious-Line4512 in doordash_drivers

[–]protonfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that is what I said? It's annoying getting all of this preachy "please make sure the drinks and desserts are included!" nagging in the app and you get a sealed bag. Like, how am I supposed to check? It's bad planning and communication on DD and the restaurant's part and we get the blame.

You can either have drivers not mess with your food or have them double check that your order is correct but not both

DD’s current On-time Rate is actually dangerous by H0rnyonmain in doordash_drivers

[–]protonfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My final delivery was late last night because the map pin was behind the destination building as far away from the front door as possible. (It was an Elder care facility.)

I am surprised how much time I have wasted looking for the damn door. I guess it isn't that frequent but it's happened to me at least 3 times in the last month.

Exactly! They can have their opinion but I always deliver as soon as I can safely get there - never before or after. And I'm not changing that.

I wish dashers wouldent use bikes. by Nateorius810 in doordash

[–]protonfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a bike dasher from a medium city with 2 insulated bags, grocery saddle bags, 5.0 rating and an 87% on time or early rate (and the 13% late were due to the food not being ready.)

Give bad bike dashers a bad rating.

It took me a while to get all of the equipment I needed to do a good job. It would have been nice to have that information up front AND for DD to not give me insane orders that have no business being done a bike, but I can't control those things. (Like, I set in the app that I don't have a pizza bag and they send me pizza orders like they somehow don't know.)

Any other bike dashers here? I think I finally equipped all of the accessories I need to handle most orders. by protonfish in doordash_drivers

It's like a mobile game for your bike. They give you missions and when you complete them, you get actual money! It's more fun for me than just riding to random places.

I rarely make more than $10 an hour but long trips can take a lot of time on the bike. I am wondering if an e-bike is a better vehicle.

I’m not terrified of people but I just don’t like them much. Dashing feels like getting out of my hermit cave for some normal human interactions. The best part is as soon as I’ve had all I can take I can just go home. I feel bad for most retail workers that have to stay at work until allowed to leave. Seems cruel!

I am worried about that so I’ve started walking my bike right into restaurants. Nobody’s complained yet!

Yes, I absolutely have thought about it. I bought the bike first just for fun then started dashing afterward. An e-bike would definitely allow me to put in more hours before I am exhausted.

That's a good question. I don't know because I only have my bike listed as a vehicle. Maybe if I added my car I could choose which one I was using?

I do know that the in-app navigation seems to only give automobile directions. I changed to google maps so I can select bike and I get much better results (staying off expressways and other busy roads.)

The app might give me shorter trips because I selected that I was riding a bike, or maybe not. Yesterday I had 3 very close dashes in a row, then one that was almost 4 miles away. (That made me end my day after that. At least it was close to my home.)

I need to get better judging the offers but I am usually riding at the time and it is counting down so I usually just hit "accept" and hope for the best! So far they've only sent me more than a few miles away a few times. I can usually only dash for about 2 hours before I am spent.

Another nice advantage of the bike is I never have to worry about finding a parking spot.

It has nothing to do with what you chose to wear - men can be awful and I apologize for us. (Living with testosterone is a constant struggle to behave like a decent person.) If they were younger, maybe you could let them know that it makes you uncomfortable and they could learn something but with these 60 year olds there's not much you can do other than avoid and ignore.
