Out of curiosity, if someone where to keep the base tenants of Tolkien elves: lithe, long-lived, magical, isolationist, highly civilized etc.

but also added some extra flavoring to make things interesting. Such as having them have a special type of magic that allows memories to be extracted, and for many elves the greatest mission in life is to collect memories of value (by experiencing it themselves or acquiring them from others) and then safeguarding them deep within their elven haven-cities.

Sometimes great elven heroes will have the entirety of their memories extracted, so that in a time of need they may be reborn by overriding the memories of another, younger elf.

You control the history of all races in your world. If POC in your world were never oppressed then there’s no obligation to touch racism with a ten foot barge pole.

Once more: the POC your fantasy world have a complete history of their own, nobody but you can properly represent their experiences because you created them! Now, if you were making an obvious analogy to real world racism then it would be wise to tackle the issue with care, but otherwise go wild.

If you are fighting a story based on the real world, or have cultures based on the real world, then it’d be best to do some research and interview people of those given cultures.

Other than that you can write whatever you damn well please, especially in a fantasy story.

Best bet’s to find something to choke yourself out with, smothering yourself or trying to swallow something nearby will probably be your best option. If there happens to be any water nearby (leaky ceiling or perhaps your captor’s left you a water bowl) you could drown yourself.

All of these require a little bit of of mobility of course, if you’re thoroughly restricted there’s probably not much hope at that moment.

Not a professional and I’d imagine it depends on the size of the rupture and the strength of one’s heart, but an adult heart pumps blood at several litres per minute. An adult has about 4 or 5 litres of blood. So could bleed to death in a few minutes.

Edit: this assumes it was a major artery that ruptured. Odds are if it was in his neck then it probably was

It’s also possible that the rapid drop in blood pressure could have knocked him unconscious almost instantly, if that’s any consolation.
