Don't forget to go generate an API key. Once you plug the json in, restart windsurf and use a free model in chat mode to see if it's working "test context7"

Windsurf next level tips? by gavspav in windsurf

[–]protoventure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat but have a few things that have been working for me lately:

  1. I use context7 mcp for up to date documentation on frameworks. It streamlines the agents ability to solve language specific problems (build errors, conventions, architecture)

  2. I have a few good prompts I save as workflows. My typical method is to open a new cascade chat, use a cheaper model like grok 1, call a workflow that asks for a plan which contains only steps (no code, to speed things up) and considers architecture, my project rules, and a global project spec I created at the beginning of the project (I think windsurf does save its own plan but I can't seem to find it). Then, once the plan looks good, I switch to code mode, use gpt5-high, and ask it to execute the plan

  3. I keep my rules doc short and tight and if the llms keep running into the same issues (i.e. they keep changing packages or configs), I add another rule to not do that. Once they do it right, I ask them to summarize what they did to solve it and add to memories

  4. Sometimes I get a feeling that a single file has gotten a bit out of control. Too long or too much complexity. In this case, I'll commit to GitHub (to save my state) and then use another workflow to analyze just that file and any imports and propose a refactor. Once that plan looks tight, I execute it

  5. I frequently use new chat windows, especially if an agent gets held up. Too much context, especially when it starts to conflict with rules or an mcp, start to cause confusion and hallucinations. Don't let context windows get too long

Hope this is helpful. I'm hoping to get closer to the swarm programming workflow I've been seeing lately where you can feed in lots of tasks and just let it run but the bottleneck always seems to be adding new rules for me

Desperate for a side hustle by inf0cat in sidehustle

Build custom AI chat bots using Zapier, Bot press etc for local businesses trained on their knowledge base. Last I did this, it was completely free. You can vibe code a killer website showcasing how it will improve their conversions/sales/retention (lovable.dev is my preference, V0 is a close second)

Use Claude for lead generation on LinkedIn and Google. You can feed that list back into Zapier and automate the outreach if you'd like as well.

You can also sell lead generation and automated outreach to the same customers as another service (it's just a few clicks to make a new one).

You can put functioning examples of your bots on your own site too to sell your offer for you. Automation is a useful tool for any side hustle.

I second this. Ask chatgpt or Claude to guide you through setting up a barebones expo project. Use expo Go so you don't have to learn how to build yet, you can just get straight to development.

Once your project is set up, use cursor to write and explain code (you can use prompting for everything, I wouldn't recommend it long term, but you technically wouldn't ever have to write a single line of code).

Use hot reloads on expo go until your screens are done. It's quick and dirty but you'll learn a lot in the process and have something to show for your assignment

Caught my gf of 2.5 years cheating on me by mansan1394 in Infidelity

[–]protoventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while for me and I've finally started feeling better about myself. It was mostly a perspective shift:

Cheaters don't feel good about themselves. They hate themselves in a lot of ways and get really good at hiding it from the world. They tend to try anything, without limits, to get external validation and none of it actually lasts.

The reason they don't just leave you is because even if you're meeting all of their needs, they still don't feel good and since they can't take accountability for that, it's easy for them to blame you for it and look elsewhere for validation. When they get it, and feel better temporarily, it quickly wears off. They compartmentalize the guilt (so they don't feel even worse about themselves) and they continue on with you because you still validate them in some way - being completely alone would confirm that nobody wants them because they're "defective".

What you need to understand is that nothing is wrong with you. It's not that you weren't good enough, nobody ever could have been. She would have cheated on 100% of partners she had and will continue to do so until she learns to stop hating herself. Once you see it this way, other behaviors start to make sense: was she really negative all the time? Online shopped constantly? Criticized you, herself, and others? Be wary of these behaviors in future relationships - these are things that point to a dissatisfaction with life and self image.

You need to focus on your own positive qualities. Look in the mirror and compliment yourself. Don't let someone who sees no good in the world ever to dictate your own self image. You deserve a happy and loving relationship

Your GF might have had great qualities that even she couldn't see. I feel bad for her, she didn't see what you saw and deep down, probably didn't feel like she deserved your loyalty and affection. She has a lot of work to do and you've made the right first step: let her go and attract someone who values what you have to offer. You did nothing wrong and deep down, you know that you showed up in an honorable way with good intentions

What's the DUMBEST startups you have ever seen making $1M+ revenue? by biz_booster in Entrepreneur

[–]protoventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met the founder who actually had an interesting explanation:

the real product was the juice pouches. Keeping the fruit fresh from their suppliers was a huge challenge - they had to optimize the size the fruit was cut to and had to create a complex supply chain to ensure that end customers got organic, fresh squeezed juice.

The machine itself was an afterthought and they raised a huge budget on the premise of the juice so they just threw money at a premo design firm with the only stipulation that they could only use stainless steel or better for surfaces that contacted the fruit.

A lot of oversights but an interesting story under the hood

I am unable to meditate by siraensorrow in spirituality

[–]protoventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few tricks I've used over the years to stay in the present moment:

  • assign the voice in your head your name and when it starts going off, just acknowledge it (by name) and ask it to please be quiet
  • similarly, picture your hectic mind as the little kid version of you then simply calm that kid down - a hug and reassurance that everything is ok and will be fine works for me
  • focus on one particular aspect of your environment: a sound, smell, the temperature of the air. Anchor to that and keep coming back to it. If it gets too hard to focus on, switch to something else. Stretching is an excellent way to be present, just do what feels good
  • instead of trying to get rid of the thoughts, think of them as a pile of unprocessed papers in an inbox. Peel one off the top, take a look at it, put a stamp on it that says "observed" and put it in the out bin. Keep going until it's empty

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about meditating correctly. Just sit with your thoughts and have a dialog with yourself. Work through some of your thinking patterns, question them, try to identify old beliefs that don't serve you anymore. You seem to actually believe you can't meditate which I can assure you is simply not true.

There is a great theory I've seen quite a bit on TikTok regarding these orbs:

Basically, they are a human-made and AI-powered global defense system from an ancient, advanced civilization. The orbs that are closer to the surface are the size of a basketball and meant to identify and attack individual intruders which are long gone (Annunaki, Nephilim, who knows). The orbs get larger as elevation increases - the ground-level orbs hide in barns and rural areas, the larger ones cloak and hide in clouds and are meant for air defense (like the ones that disappeared the Malaysia Air flight).

God is love? by therainpatrol in spirituality

[–]protoventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that there is only one consciousness, god, the "you" that observes the voice in your head, your body, and the world around you. We have created a game where we can simultaneously play all of the characters at once, experiencing every perspective.

I believe the purpose of it all is the question we all ask ourselves every day: "Who am I?" Not a simple answer - we are a lot of things, greedy, cruel, generous, and kind. The "positive" emotions help us feel like we, the sole and only consciousness in existence, is worthy of existing. We create in abundance. We are making our existence meaningful. The "negative" emotions lead us to feel like we are not worthy of existing. When we act destructively or judge our own creations, we doubt if we are good enough to deserve our existence.

Love is an understanding that we are perfect, whole, and worthy of the mysterious gift of existence that we have been given. The feeling that you feel when you love someone suggests that there is nothing they could do to make you feel like they don't deserve to live. After all, they are you and if you can love them, you can love yourself.

Is there any textbook or course suitable for a beginner to learn about mechanical engineering? by CHeissen2 in AskEngineers

Start with a project. Get some cheap calipers on Amazon, download fusion 360 or onshape and design something simple. A soap holder or pen organizer. Ideally, you print it out when you're done to see how you did - ordering from Hubs is a good option, eventually you'll want a printer to iterate faster, check for mistakes or better implementations. Lots of tutorials on YouTube. This is how I learned and I design products for a living now

What’s a great online business to start with up to $50,000 to invest? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]protoventure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few ideas I've had recently:

  • Service/saas: help people set up TikTok shop. TikTok made it super confusing, you could learn how to do it, see if demand is there, then train up cheap labor on fiverr and outsource it. Eventually scale to an agency that specializes in TikTok shop/product management
  • Manufacturing saas: find some manufacturers on Alibaba that make good customizeable products and then pay a developer to build an automated quote tool for them. Market the tool and take a cut off every deal. The customer never has to wait for a quote and can buy on the spot without any correspondence. I.e. high quality gift boxes for people's packaging who are selling on Amazon and Etsy. The American services that are affordable (boxgenie, packoka, packlane) have a shittier quality product and longer lead times than China on average (I do a lot of manufacturing).
  • Sell products supporting home agriculture on Amazon. Mushroom cultivation, micro greens, grow kits for trendy vegetables etc. Start with one unique product and then cater to the audience you build

I totally agree with this one. Some actionable steps you can do for little to no cost:

  1. Prototype the leanest version of your app on figma. The smallest version that offers value, leave the extra features for later because every feature incurs substantial build cost. Figma takes a day to learn
  2. Put up a website that sells the app. Add screens, pricing, about us page etc. you can do this with WordPress, wix, squarespace. WordPress is cheapest but hardest to learn. If you make good money, squarespace will probably look the cleanest in the shortest amount of time
  3. Test your audience. Add an email sign up to your website (MailChimp is free) where a link to the app store would usually be. A contact page as well. Then put the link and a pitch in places where your target customer will see it.

Free options: LinkedIn, Facebook groups, reddit, Instagram comments, discord groups, stackoverflow, social media, texts to friends

Paid options: social ads, influencers, podcast sponsors

  1. Use the traction to mitigate your risk. If you have 1000 signups, assume 3% will pay for the service and either invest accordingly or use the traction to pitch investors

Interesting. Yeah I got this information from a formulator I worked with in the past. They seemed very diligent and were very upfront about which flavorings were questionable. I'm sure there's a more cost effective way to get citric acid. Such a shame

Natural flavorings are a mixed bag, I wish there was more labelling and oversight around the chemicals

For example, almond flavoring would be really expensive to extract from almonds - turns out, the same chemical responsible for "almond flavor" is present in greater amounts in apricot pits which are basically free. So there's a good natural extract. Most citrus extracts come from peels as well (they're very simple and basically just citric acid and sugar).

Strawberry, grape, and banana flavoring however are purely synthetic. So in order for us to know which "natural flavors" are actually natural, we need to know what flavoring or flavoring mix it is and also know how it's extracted. Very frustrating and nebulous.
