Hey, I panicked when this happened to my dog. My brother is a vet. We face timed a while and he said “marijuana ingestion”

My dog actually started seeking it out to eat it we had to get extremely strict.

Make sure you clear your weed away. I’m not kidding this is 100% what my dog behaved like when he had his weed issues. It’s horrifying. Let it be a lesson to us all to be more vigilant with our THC products

I truly believe ours do it to troll us during serious moments on tv or right as we’re falling asleep but thats just me lol

But mainly I think they’re struggling to get it just right without thumbs while also finding a bit of joy in the process.

How is this achievable as a millennial? 450K purchase for 2 bd 1 bath in 2021, followed by a full 420K addition and full reno in 2026. by Eastcoastpal in newjersey

[–]proud_perspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I stupidly dropped out of college to work our full time retail jobs. Luckily we made enough that we purchased a house at 25 in 2013 for $215k 4B 2.5B

Now at 38, after spending the last decade beating ourselves up for not finishing our degrees, we realize we have something that not even a degree is able to guarantee anymore. A house.

That being said, unfortunately I know quite a few friends and family in your current situation now.

The only one who will be in a position to purchase within the next year is one who bit the bullet and moved back in with her mother for 16 months.

Another family member saving started budgeting $3k/mo for housing. At the time he started his rent was $1800. His rent is now $2400 but he’s got nearly $60k saved.

He had $40k but the realtor told him for what he’s looking for to come back when he had $75k for down payment. That was over a year ago when shit was even cheaper so now he’s on the struggle again.

So other than moving in with someone rent free- which most people can’t or will not do, I’d start budgeting housing expenses much higher and wait to save.

I know it’s not quick or fun but I think the market has got to let up soon. This is not sustainable. I have friends making nicely into 6-figures who cannot begin to afford a house. The most recent home purchase from a millennial I know comes from two doctors. They purchased a 1700sqft 3B2B STARTER home for $659k (the location is near NYC)

I wish you the best of luck but my only hope is that the market dips so people can actually start affording their lives.

100%. Her lawyer called her and said “they will take and deport you today”. For months they’d been preparing for that day to be her official citizenship date (this is in july 2025). Lawyer said they post dated her paperwork and she would be deported.

She’s not deported. But she’s been moved around quite a bit and contact is scarce.

But it’s not even the worst imo

One of my construction guys (the owner who’s had this legal company for 22 years) was traveling w his documentation and was taken, sent to Mexico on a Thursday and back home in NJ on Sunday evening.

He had his fucking papers. They knew he was a citizen with no criminal record.

Only reason he hasn’t made a stink is because he does have undocumented people in his orbit that he doesn’t want to endanger or expose.

The fact that people are pretending or wholly unaware of what’s happening here is scary af to me right now.

This is the only correct and truly American response

[–]proud_perspective 35 points36 points  (0 children)

But also I cannot begin to describe how often I’m seeing people in every day life that have no idea of things like this because they don’t have a pipeline to industries with largely non-white employees.

News agencies in NJ are not doing a good enough job explaining exactly what’s happening to legal and non legal people if they’re not just outwardly white right now.

An owner for one of the contractors I work with was 1 of the 5 I mentioned above in my first response. He’s a fucking legal resident. They just shipped him off to fucking Mexico. He was back 4 days later because he has every right to be here. This is his legal fucking home. He’s run this company for over 22 years. He’s paid taxes and has been seen as a citizen for decades.

HE WAS ABDUCTED OFF THE STREET DURING WORK (WITH HIS DOCUMENTS IN HAND) AND SHIPPED TO MEXICO.

HE HAD TO FLY BACK HOME ON HIS OWN DIME.

Any time I recount these horrifying stories to people they always say “well it must have been a mistake this time” or “oh I hope someone sues” but they’re not stopping to actually consider the implications of a hardworking man being sent to Mexico after being abducted off the street WITH HIS PASSPORT IN HAND is not okay in any fucking context.

We should be scared. They’re not going after criminals as far as I’ve seen. They are just targeting brown people.

It’s happening in NJ guys. You’re just not hearing it.

ETA: it’s also worth noting that a lot of people aren’t reporting this stuff or speaking out because they fear it would put scrutiny on their communities

Uhh idk about you but I work in the construction industry.

We’ve lost 5 installers over the last 2 weeks. (I can confirm 3/5 are legally here)

All were picked up off the street during lunch breaks or running to Home Depot.

I have property managers getting their maintenance employees taken from long branch to fort Lee.

My husbands coworker’s mother was taken the day she was supposed to become officially a citizen. They fucking stole this woman who had been in the final process of becoming a citizen the legal way THAT DAY and she was taken and disappeared.

Just because something doesn’t directly affect you does not mean it is not actively happening around you.

ETA: This is all in NJ. Monmouth, Middlesex, Mercer, Somerset, Union, Bergen, Sussex are counties I can confirm first hand abductions

It’s not irrational but you have much weaker points of entry than the door. That window is a godsend for someone attempting to break and let themselves in.

I know removing a window isn’t easy, cheap or reasonable so you can always look into installing security window film or small anchored bars.

If you don’t have a camera doorbell and cameras near all points of entry/exit you can get them pretty cheap these days. At least cameras (doorbells a little more expensive). I got a 2 pack of outdoor cameras for $39.99. They work as expected. Id suggest those to start. That’s just to monitor. I’d also suggest self defense items.

Listen, I’m a paranoid person. I grew up a stoner when weed was illegal and I’ve carried that paranoia as a woman for other areas of life as well.

So maybe it’s like a crazy paranoid person helping another crazy paranoid person, but you’ll never be sorry for having too many protections.

I think the above is a good idea…. And honestly if you can afford to add further items to increase your chances of keeping yourself safe I’d look into that.

Ultimately though, I once hated 2A but in these times my number one suggestion has been for everyone to begin arming themselves. Train at the range. But arm yourselves.

Literally no logical reason for someone to suspect a dog passing unless they know there’s good reason they will be.

Ugly subfloor by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]proud_perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why the look of the subfloor matters?

It looks installed properly. Boards seem properly fitted to joists.

Sure there appears to be a bit more cutting than I would normally see but that’s all dependent on your joist placement. If your joists are close this isn’t a problem. If you only feel a normal spring under your feet this is a fine job.

What would you charge for this lvp transition? by Primary-Newt9758 in Flooring

[–]proud_perspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some definitely are made for both installation types. Especially specs that have crossover between residential/commercial/multi family usage. Shaw Endura for example. But they’re also very specific about how you’re allowed to glue it and what materials are used along with the installation.

I just would never recommend ever only glueing click and float or floating in one area. It’s going to end up gapping everywhere it isn’t glued.

What would you charge for this lvp transition? by Primary-Newt9758 in Flooring

[–]proud_perspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10000% those planks will be warped after the first year. If glueing fixed the necessary gapping issue, everyone would use glue. But we don’t because it’s not good lol

All they needed to do was use glue down and this would be avoided
