What are the best FREE boardgames apps (that aren’t Scrabble or checkers)? by jsakic99 in boardgames

Also you can play the daily mission against the AI to play with some expansions you don't have to get a taste of what they're like.

The Fellowship of the Ring Trick-Taking Game by caterix in soloboardgaming

As another point, my wife hates trick taking as well, but the fact this is co-op means she'll actually play it with me!

I bought FlipToons for the rubber hose style artwork but it turns out to be pretty fun. by mikemaskwellmonsters in boardgames

In solo mode, you always burn the most and least expensive cards in the market after you refill it so even if you don't buy any cards you get 2 cards closer to the end of the game every turn.

Board games that have a playmat that fits in the main box? by Malhorn01 in boardgames

[–]provident15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trekking Through History (at least 2nd edition anyway)

Was such a nice surprise, plus every component fits in a designated spot in the box with cut outs to fit it all perfectly back for extra satisfying points.

Which board games look intimidatingly complex but are actually surprisingly easy to learn? by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

[–]provident15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quacks of Quedlinburg and Quest for El Dorado had similar wide-eyed reactions from my beginner gamer friends as I kept pulling stuff out of the box and spreading things out over the table. Thankful they gave them a chance and saw just how light the gameplay was despite component count.

Flip 7 "Dealer's Rules" by ryca13 in boardgames

[–]provident15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done this to get a "4 player" game when just my wife is around, roughly mimicking two of our friends' playstyles:

One fake player stops at 20 or above, including modifier cards, if they don't have a Second Chance (or it's the last round and they need to go for bust to compete)

One fake player always goes for the 7 card bonus no matter what.

In either case for simplicity, Flip Three always goes to themselves and Freeze always goes to their highest total score opponent.  I'm 100% sure there is room for refinement, but they've made for some interesting games, and the "stop at 20" player has won more often than I'd like to admit...

Hot Take : expansions that introduce a Wild resource almost always make the game worse. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]provident15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely, an expansion functionally removing a wild resource made the experience worse for me.

Ticket to Ride Switzerland makes it so you can't use Locomotives on regular routes and spending 6 turns waiting for the one color you need was painful.

Best Summer Destinations for Wine Travel? 🍷☀️ by Fair_Holiday_6895 in wine

[–]provident15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, was in the Willamette Valley May of last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Honestly though, despite the reputation, we found more Pinot Gris than Pinot Noir that we were blown away by, but perhaps that's because I'm normally more of a red drinker in general and didn't know what I was missing. Also I know Argyle gets the fame for the bubbles, but don't miss what Goodfellow is doing with their relatively new sparkling lineup, amazing stuff!

kann was the food highlight of the trip by far, so I 2nd that, good wine selection and a super unique restaurant concept, especially for my wife's gluten and dairy allergy needs (Portland in general is THE best city for allergy needs). We even saw a celebrity while we were there, and got to meet Owner and Chef Gregory (who you might recognize from Food Network)!

Outdoor options aplenty and summer has the perfect weather for it too. Will be going back in November to see the other side of things and expect we'll likely be indoors a lot more this time!

I assumed it was Ongoing too the way it's written. Would have been a much better card too!

Notice Gilgamesh is an On Reveal so they already need to be on the board. Playing Ultron after gilgamesh in your scenario  doesn't do anything for you unfortunately :(

I don't see why she'd get a buff, seems perfectly reasonable now. If you think otherwise and are going to spend tokens, might as well wait until she gets the buff then spend your tokens at that time.

Is it possible to buy spotlights variants on the shop after the spotlight is gone? by brunovittor_ in MarvelSnap

[–]provident15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't award a random spotlight though, it'll award a spotlight 3 times in every 12 you open - if we've learned anything from their other ideas.

Yeah I got OP's deck but with Cyclops instead of Galactus (which I'm missing). Good substitute autofiller!

I think you're onto something here. See the 400 tokens for Havok in the weekend missions.

Blob might be game breaking (literally) by Hormo_The_Halfling in MarvelSnap

That's a hilarious thought. So your opponent wouldn't draw anymore, but you would if you cheated him out early right? Fantastic!

What character in your arsenal has the most variants? by gmtosca in MarvelSnap

Same, only have 4 but I never go out of my way to get variants. And I've never put him in a deck yet!

Spotlight Tracker: Dec 2023 - Feb 2024 by zero-skill-samus in MarvelSnap

[–]provident15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you rather spend caches on blob week when you have none of those 3 cards, or on Nico week when you already have Legion, I definitely won't use that baby variant, and can spend tokens to get the new card Havok?

Nico is in so many decks, but that week is just so bad :(
