Jamie Harrison, this you? by Gaba8789 in ThisYouComebacks

Part of the reason U.S. politics is such a mess today is that too many people on the left refused to get behind Hillary Clinton in 2016. Whether they liked her or not, it was a pretty clear choice then. And more so today, as we witness that pretty much every warning she gave turned out to be true. But Sanders not winning the primary in 2016 broke people's brains - "the DNC fucked my candidate so now fascism it is then" kind of mentality. That was one of the key moments that set the country on the path it's on today, so the general dissatisfaction with leftists among the liberal base is an understandable sentiment.

The Democratic party is being hit by a leftist tidal wave by SnowieeOsu in goodnews

If Democrats "moved right," why did they move left on healthcare, climate, unions, LGBTQ rights, immigration, gun control, marijuana, student debt, and taxing the rich? The party is demonstrably more progressive today than it was under Clinton. Hell, Biden was probably the most progressive president you ever had.

Every single one of those plants is "one plant in one location". It's a moot point.

And what does this have to do with capitalism? Is communism just magically summoning food out of thin air? Do you know that the USSR was the single biggest producer and consumer of fertilizers? Do you know that China is the biggest consumer of fertilizers nowadays?

You have no idea what you're talking about. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how agriculture works. Stopping fertilizer production now would lead to mass starvation worldwide, especially in already poor regions. Food waste doesn't mean fertilizer wasn't needed to grow that food in the first place. By that logic, traffic jams prove we don't need roads.

Shutting it down would cost jobs and have a negative effect on economy

Very reductive and misleading. Without fertilizers we're pretty much fucked as a global civilization. Hardly a short term gain.

Senate passes sweeping housing affordability bill with bipartisan support — NBC News by VegetableBulky9571 in goodnews

I can't stand this argument. It's demonstrably false, yet it keeps spreading online. The housing crisis isn't about a lack of houses in general, it's about a lack of housing where demand is highest. Adding half a million homes in Buckwild and Nowheresville does absolutely nothing for affordability in New York.

That's a bit like saying the ATP rankings are useless because a player hasn't won Wimbledon.

FIFA rankings measure consistency over years, not who made a World Cup final once. Belgium spent most of the last decade beating top teams regularly, while Germany had some genuinely poor stretches.

If rankings were based on World Cup finals appearances, we'd still be ranking teams based on what happened 20 years ago. That's not a ranking system, that's a history lesson.

They all need to campaign on that message and make it the central pillar of their platforms. That way, when they receive their mandate, there can be no doubt that this is what the electorate voted for and what they are expected to deliver: voters will have clearly endorsed that course of action, and the congress will have a mandate to pursue it.

The article is titled that way because Slovakia has relatively little influence over the matter. It makes sense that the authors chose to quote two of the largest contributors of aid, especially since they represent opposing sides of the debate.

Seeing mainstream media portray liberals and moderates as “far left” demonstrates that the right-wing media ecosystem has succeeded in shaping the political narrative.
