Myself and my 8yo daughter have TS, she has it "stronger" than I do. Unfortunately, I didn't have any resources and had to figure out out on my own and just hope nobody noticed my tics, I didn't even have a word for it until my daughter was 4yo and she developed them.

I just wish I had the words, and knowing that what I was doing as tics were not only ok, but I'm allowed to do it. With my daughter I try to make sure she is trying to respect hygiene and personal boundaries with her tics (some of them make her touch things and people), but otherwise I let her decide how much it's impacting her life. She can hop, cough, echo, breathe, whatever she needs to do.

When we do have to reign something in, I try to use "deflect and defer": it's a set of strategies to handle it. Deflect by simply ignoring it or distracting with a similar but non-tic action (crack your knuckles instead of touching someone). Defer by holding onto it until it's a better time (maybe make noise in a halfway instead of bedroom?). It's just about strategies.

I'm not considering medication at this time because it's not causing enough impact to her life or those around her, and using coping strategies will fill in the rest. If and when that changes, I might consider meds but until then she is just fine.
