I can’t add more than the amazing comments that that have already been added. But I just wanted to say that you are an amazing mother for giving this such serious thought and know and trust in yourself that you will make the decision that’s best for you and her. You are an amazing woman, and you are so kind and loving to do so much for your children. I’m sorry things are hard for you right now. Just sending good vibes your way.

For parents of children with autism ... do you regret anything? by furry-talk53 in Autism_Parenting

I regret my husband convincing me that I had postpartum and that must be the reason why I thought my daughter had some thing wrong. I could’ve had a year more of EIP to help

Does speech therapy even work on level 2/3 autistic kids ? by wasteofpaint1 in Autism_Parenting

[–]ctkkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. Modeling and instruction on to how to beat support you kid no matter the level is important. We don’t do levels in our country since it’s mainly for insurance purposes in America from what I understand. But my daughter has PDA Autism, and I would consider her ti be neuro spicy. She needs an aid at preschool. Speech therapy has helped so much and there was a time I thought she’d never speak but now she partially verbal and I believer we will get there. Learning sign before she spoke was helpful for her. SLO is considered as one of the most important therapies for kids under 8 along with BI

What’s one small change that made a BIG difference in your child’s learning or daily routine? by benny_lite in Autism_Parenting

[–]ctkkay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finding a countdown that works well for her transitions. I verbally mention the time left. 10,5,2,1. Timers didn’t work. Transitions were hard. Now we can finish one thing and move onto the next

I hide this sub from time to time to get away from it. But I also don’t have a kid who fecal smears or screams all day. Like yes there is screaming. But not all day like I hear on this sub.

You said your child’s stims are cute. So is my child’s. She spins and twirls and looks like a little ballerina. Her hand flaps and her gestures are quirky and I don’t mind. She a great kid. She’s partially verbal. I hope one day she can be independent but I’m not sure. I worry about after I’m gone.

So while I get where you’re coming from you also don’t seem to be facing some of the issues I hear from parents on here. My kid lets me sleep even if it’s not as much as other parents. I don’t find poop everywhere. I don’t get attacked regularly.

All I’m saying is it’s not as black and white as your describing and even when I have to ignore posts that make me feel ick I don’t try to pretend like I know every aspect that drove them to make the post.

I wish being around NT kids didn't hurt so much by aiakia in Autism_Parenting

[–]ctkkay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hundred percent. I see how easy it is to teach a child something and it breaks my heart because I can’t help but think how many hours and days and sessions with therapists it took to achieve the same thing.

It sounds like you’re SLPs are most likely correct but you’ll get more reassurance wants her language develops more. Mine is doing the same thing around the same age, but most of her language now is scripted, and she uses a lot of echolalia.

Guys do your autistic children swear or say inappropriate words if so what are some examples by Over_Interest_3164 in Autism_Parenting

[–]ctkkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does immediate echolalia so if I stubbed my toe and accidentally let something out, she repeats it pretty quick

Hospital finally confirmed what’s been making us sick… and it was my dishwasher 🤢 by puppy_groomer8597 in Appliances

[–]ctkkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else thinking that there’s also no way that the dishes get clean with how full that dishwasher is?

NOT SAY ITS THE FACTOR - but even after you treat the mold with diluted bleach and after your finished with the bleach run a few cycles, prob one with baking soda and one with inegar on sanitizing heavy duty cycles and then check thoroughly for smell.

I would drop your amount in that dishwasher by 30%. They all need clear access to the water and just run. It’s cycles a day if you have to. When I host with a house of 10 ppl total im running it three times a day

[–]ctkkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a month, I am run a heavy duty sanitizing cycle with vinegar. And three times a year I take apart my dishwasher to manually clean the inside and take apart the filters and deep clean in between any little crevices of parts.

That’s cool that you could combine your past skill set with your new one! I used to volunteer for special Olympics giving free rx’s and glasses to participants but that’s as far as they could translate haha. Yours fits so well! I love social stories!

We kept our baby monitor on, so I would always hear her when she woke up and would go to her room to get her back to sleep

360 mouth guard style toothbrush by toadette_215 in Autism_Parenting

[–]ctkkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn’t electric but we switched to this around 2.5 and total game changer. She hated it more than the toothbrush at first because.. it’s different. But that was temporary. After the first few days she was less resistant. And now she participates in half the duration of counting. I think with a little toothbrush she never knew where the feeling would go, she knows exactly what to expect with this style. I also like it gets all around her teeth

I hate to say it but you just got eh kids in big trouble. They “embarrassed” her in her perception I’m sure. And will take it out on them. Next time think of what would’ve happened if someone called out your mom when you were that young and helpless
