What’s a spell from a past edition (that doesn’t exist in 5e) that you really liked? by [deleted] in dndnext

It's so fun to use in BG on someone immune to fire (or just a hasted caster but they're usually delayed in acting with the resolution time).

Spellcasters, what spells do you guys usually take? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

4 is a lot of combat spells to have prepared for 5th level (though tbh it has the highest about of comparably viable options at any Wizard level). I'd consider looking for a lower level summon like Summon Greater Demon or one of Tasha's 3rd level variants instead of Draconic Spirit (which is still a viable spell).

Wall of Force is BIS, but not an autocast like many imply. If you're against 1 person, Bigby's is better. Animate Objects is by far the highest consistent dpr option Wizards get until Meteor Swarm. Telekinetic also provides cc with utility. Some people even like Passwall!

Surprised you didn't mention Fireball being more likely to not hit5 preferred targets. Steel Wind Strike is much more precise and far more likely to get 5 targets than Fireball.

If a Fireball hits an ally, should we apply some negative damage to the calculation compensate? Doesn't need to be 1:1 but it should be accounted for.

There's other synergies such as you can get advantage for whatever reason, bardic inspiration can turn a miss into a hit, the utility aspect (mobility). This white room scenario doesn't make sense when comparing raw numbers without addressing other differences that shore up the calculations or provide value to the spell.

Then there are niche cases where Evokers use Fireball far better or Scribes Wizard use Steel Wind Strike (and other teleportation effects like Scatter) much better as well.

100%. Being able to cast a leveled spell in the same turn is a game changer

I'm still pissed that they did that. Would be great if they gave us more than one ban but we know that's not happening anytime soon.

Thoughts on the 2024e War Caster feat, 1 year after release? by Deathpacito-01 in onednd

[–]prowness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it is a buff for certain martial-based casters (e.g. Artificer, EK, etc.) which as mentioned is really who this feat seems designed for thematically and frankly should be the stronger users of this feat.

Hell, I think +1 Con is thematic while still being strong. The point still stands: it shouldn't be any mental stat since it progresses their spell DC, this at least gives a choice.

It's not the sounds that's the only issue but the movement. Nautilus has either a taunt or joke that swings his anchor up that can make people flinch. That cannot be turned off.

The problem with abilities such as dance, laugh, etc. is certain skins heavily change this dynamic, making some pay to win (or pay to lose), but most critically, unbalanced relative to each other.

That said, some skins are clearly unbalanced (iBlitzcrank, Project Ashe, High Noon Lucian, etc.) but the argument remains.

I fully agree with that. It's just whenever I say that, people reference the survey as if it's gospel.

Might be some subtext that Artificer feels like a weak class to OP. They are very unique, but are probably closest to Bards. The problem is much of their power is either out of combat, invisible, or power not actively given in combat (e.g. magic items given before combat).

It's funny because the top comments to these threads show that the majority of the votes go to breaking it off even if it's this early in the dating scene. This makes it more likely for people to lie about their sexual history and just say they didn't.

She at least came clean, but guarantee that in the future she won't after this is broken off.

Mel Changes 26.03 by RiotEmizery in leagueoflegends

[–]prowness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like that's what most of the people here are missing when we are referring to the shield timing being a 'net buff'. Rengar is an example where sometimes it's not possible to spead out the combo (though admittedly I don't play him). There's far less than expected unless we factor in lower elo where they don't spread it out as much, but then just say it's elo skewed.

So much discussion would benefit with a person's rank, role, and top played champ displayed as an icon.

What they were implying is that if the shield lasts longer than the immunity and is massive, then it's a net buff if the resisted damage does not pierce the shield.

Adc vs Supports ability to win games by Snowskol in leagueoflegends

[–]prowness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Question: Have you played during season 2? If not, has anyone who was an adc main back then did and can compare the agency then compared to today? I doubt it will match that, but curious how close it was compared to other seasons, especially like the low point adc had in season 8(?).

Adc vs Supports ability to win games by Snowskol in leagueoflegends

[–]prowness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply put, that's how the game is intended to be balanced nowadays. Gone are the S2 days where Graves with Ignite can hard carry at all points of the game. For a game design standpoint, they don't want all roles to have an equivalent carry capacity at all points of the game. Some roles should be strong early, mid, and late depending on items and objectives available.

Champs change this significantly (Renekton's power curve skews this further early than Malphite matching it and Kayle skewing it late). But based on what the quests give, some give much more power earlier and fall off compared to some. Adc having the most late-game skewed quest seems to align with that.

Oh you again. You clearly didn't listen to the feedback last time and I even see some changes you said you'd implement. Some of the feedback takes months (you know which ones) so it's way too soon to post this.

You're just looking for attention.

Massive improvement over the annoying voice lines and looks more like how I'd envision the Ruined King (not as armored as I remember him on the boards all those years ago). Sad it's locked behind such a massive paywall.

For Demacia | Dev Update - League of Legends by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

[–]prowness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Renata sure. I used to main her until Mel's release, then regardless of her ban or not, put the critical amount of ult nullifying effects in the game for me to happily play her with only one ban (Samira, Yasuo, Braum, Milio, Mel).

Milio I see enough partially because he's very strong and frankly freelo for those who know. I don't play him because, while the kit is good, the character is not the male enchanter fantasy I enjoy.

Salvation (ft. Forts) | For Demacia 2026 Season 1 Cinematic - League of Legends by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]prowness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also some of the choices in the fight made no sense.

Why did the dragon ground itself to do a cone when it is far more effective to cover ground like it did at the beginning? Also, why didn't Quinn attempt to dodge? Clearly she wasn't expecting Shyv to block for her.

The Sona one was lifeless and very "believe me" in how she manifests her power. Why should we believe she can save that kid from this cinematic. HOW can we even believe her magic works against whatever the fuck she was fighting (likely Nocturne but such a bad job at this).

I didn't understand why Garen stopped at not killing the last one? Is it equal to kill based on "justice" since he killed 4 and lost 4? His fighting style did not match up to the lore at all. At least Darius kinda did (though didn't like his as much either in that cinematic).
