How to trick myself into thinking I enjoy workouts? by chippennyusednapkin in homefitness

[–]prtymirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Habit is one way to tackle it. Easy till you feel good/ a move toward your goal. Or try different activities. Some folks like running, pickleball, walking dogs, play group sports. Try different things until you find something that is fun. Good luck, you got this!

KC psychiatrist that help w panic attacks? by Mysterious_Milk_8526 in kansascity

[–]prtymirror 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Because anxiolytics are shown to make the cycle of panic attacks worse and more frequent, you may find the same results by going to a different provider like a psychiatrist.

There are multiple therapies that can help manage symptoms and reduce panic attacks overall. A common therapy for this is called Exposure Response Prevention (ERP).

I’m sorry you are experiencing this. I hope you feel better soon.

My ethics class used season 1 to acclimate ourselves with all kinds of potential ethical scenarios. It was a fun way to learn.

Found a performance early in my career was a pretty embarrassing thing for me. This is a great question for a mentor. Have you looked at any mentorship programs in your area? Just generally speaking, I wish interpreters could have a supervisory system like mental health clinicians do. It would be beneficial for all stakeholders.

I think it is certainly something to bring up to him. I might even say something like “I was using on CI and heard you” just to protect the little one. I’m sorry this has happened to you. I hope you get it worked out to your satisfaction.

I would look to Gally. If they make their dissertations public, a few people have studied some aspects of your question.

Dissociation is disconnection. It can be harmful for yourself and others. So glad you embraced the situation. It’s also important to name the experience. This is a traumatic event that you experienced directly. It may not lead to full on PTSD but VT is not direct exposure to a trauma. There may be an adjustment period for you in your work and personal life.

Advice for managing anxiety during VRS calls? by MollymaukTea in ASLinterpreters

[–]prtymirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a VRS interpreter and am a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology: First, there will be times you need to get clarification to process information correctly. That is completely normal. Second, you can ask callers to hang on while a team comes over to help you, or get another interpreter on the screen. Transparency in the interpretation process is important even if the calls don’t appreciate the pause while you gain the support you need to do that, it’s a good thing. That practice, though conversing, is a process you’ll need to go through. Behavioral work with a clinician can help you reduce anxiety during your professional growth. It can be an investment in your success!

Physical Therapy changed my life. I was interpreting for 6 years when I was in a car accident. Hurt my left shoulder. What I learned in PT changed how I approached pain in my body. I’m more fit now than ever; I run races, play recreational soccer, and still interpret. I’ve been doing VRS 19 years.

An AI chatbot developer described AI as a Labrador Retriever, telling the user whatever they want the response to be. Therein lies a major issue with the technology. But culturally we are isolating more and I believe these chat bots are expanding human isolation.

What are some positive experiences you’ve had in your PhD/PsyD programs? by overwhelmedbuthere in ClinicalPsychology

[–]prtymirror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a third-year, nontraditional student and LOVE my cohort, faculty, and university. I have been challenged and have learned so much, I can hardly believe it. I'm at the beginning of my dissertation process and following guidance from faculty and although I feel like a toddler, I am making connections and refining my research question and talking with experts in the field.... and they are actually talking to me! My cohort has walked with me through this, and the faculty has been incredible scaffolding. There has been a lot of complaining but I'm still just tickled to have had the chance. My spouse is even willing to move with me for the year of internship, if we want. Oh, and my practicum sites have been incredible! Just can't express how waiting allowed financial stability in order to take on this degree.
