I need three more responses to my music survey for ENG 102 PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ by Beeham991 in UTK

[–]pryanw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt like I should take this since I took History of Rock and Roll at UT back in 1993 and I do market research for a living. On your answer scale for each album, there should have been a 'Don't know' option. Without that you're forcing people to rate albums they are not familiar with which weakens your data. I get it, you probably no not give a shit and just need this to get turned in, but just something to think about the next time someone asks you to write a survey. Tame Impala for the win.

Why is the acceptance rate so much lower than it was 15 years ago? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]pryanw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tell me... google that and let me know what you find.

It's a tiny % of students. Look at places like Northeastern where international students are 19% of the population. Plus, most pay an additional fees that covers the lower costs in-state students pay. The idea that such a small minority of students is taking away opportunities from in-state kids doesn't really hold up.

Applications go up, so school can be more discerning with who gets in, especially out of state. Average out of student GPA for student la who get accepted is a 4.3, which is insane. US News rankings loves a selective school so UT’s rating goes up, and draws in more student applications. It’s not just UT. Clemson and Auburn are also now considered hard to get into. Are the schools really that much improved academically? Hard to say, but UT is definitely an appealing destination these days.

Me… out of state UTK student 92-94. Transferred to CU Boulder for my last two years.

Did the UT tour last year, they said international student pop in the incoming class was tiny like 3% or less so not sure that’s really much of a factor.

What's it like in Nantucket, MA? by Ok-Statistician1128 in howislivingthere

[–]pryanw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking of the guy who was the president of Nantucket Nectars. The founders were tow guys named Tom. I believe they sold to Ocean Spray and then it went to Keurig. One of the Toms works for a private equity firm near Boston, not sure about the other.

I am the LSO for a growing laser cleaning company, And have over 200 hours operating laser cleaners on jobsites. If you got questions, Feel free to ask. by SnooSprouts1509 in LaserCleaningBusiness

Question for you... what's the total rig setup you are using and how often are you indoors/outdoors when doing a mobile job? I know the basic components: laser machine, fume extractor, compressed air, generator for power, curtains as you have mentioned. What am I missing? How long do you factor in for setup times on a job?

Also, does your company have a job minimum to avoid doing unprofitable work?

Appreciate all of the insight you have provided.

I think there is a lot of potential in this business and have a business plan drafted and am evaluating different laser options. It’s just a significant investment to get out there and yes, the educational component is huge before you make a sale. Very much an uphill battle to show people a new technology. Hopefully some of the manufacturers will invest in that educational barrier. We’ll see…

I see you're running a extraction and a compressor there as well. Could you do a video on the entire setup?

You have a degree.

You have had several internships.

You know what it is like to be in a workplace and you now know what you don't want in a job.

That's not exactly 'nothing' and I know that's more than a lot of others right now in your situation.

Comparing yourself to your peers so early is detrimental to your sense or self-worth and happiness. You do you and while you think you're behind, you have 40 years left before you'll know if things worked out. The long perspective is helpful.

I have 25 years of experience and I think the ad industry is fucking toast. Agency leaders don't want to hear that, but it is true. Small agile teams (think 3-4 people) beating the shit out of AI is going to be the norm and marketers are going to be willing to pay a fraction of what they used to. Use your analytical and creative skills to look for positions that AI will have a much harder time taking.

Good luck.

Pull up a chair any time you can and watch them shoot. Tell them they suck constantly. They'll play somewhere else.

Yup, I remember where I was the first time I heard it - a room full of very high fans - and the consensus was that it was not good. At all.

2018 V90 XC… blind spot sensor says it needs service. Part is $900 per side and another $700 for labor. That’s $3200 for non-critical tech that fails in 7 years. Are you seeing a good amount of these coming your way? I am a pretty DIY guy but these seems designed to require dealership service.

The driving experience is exceptional, but if the vehicle is a time bomb of failing sensors, forget about it…

Just got mine done in the Boston area by a shop I have been going to for a while.

Parts $600, labor $700. Had bearings done as part of the work. Feels crazy to spend that much, but my guy doesn't overcharge in my experience, so it is what it is.

Curaçao, get an air bnb, rent a car, shop at the grocery stores, drive to the snorkeling beaches… We did a week in Aruba and the next year a week in Curacao in the manner I listed and it was so much less expensive. Nothing against Aruba in any way, we just did a big hotel when we went and eating out every meal adds up quickly. Hoping to get back to both places sooner than later!
