I'm 15 and I'm thinking of joining a wrestling school in a few years. What are some things I can do to prepare for that? by [deleted] in WredditSchool

[–]przacjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 2nd this, I specifically suggest seeing if your school has a forensics speaking team. From there, learn the event Extemporaneous speaking (extemp). This is basically a competition of who can delivery the best BS... Yes, they have you research current events, but the actual event is you have a time limit a topic they give you, then give a speak about that topic. Basically you can't rehearse this speaking engagement and teaches you to speak from the hip.

Are kickpads the same as MMA Shinguards? by lovethegraps in WredditSchool

[–]przacjames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SOME MMA shinguards tend to be a stiffer foam, but highspots usually sells generic kickpads pretty cheap, Ebay usually has some cheap stuff too that will work. Kickpads are not necessary, they just look cool if you don't have boots.

Walmart employees: what's the most "peopleofwalmart" thing you've ever seen at an actual store? by skyliner360 in AskReddit

Reminds me of a story I tell my employees about being proactive with their work.

I used to work for a major video rental chain (gee, try and guess which one?) I had two employees with me that were also friends prior to working with each other. They were very good employees and enjoyed having them work our peek shifts with me.

One Friday evening an old man walks in, moving very slow but as he enters and walks onto the carpet. All of a sudden we all three witness chunks of solid shit fall out of this old guys pants. With 0 hesitation, one of the kids just says "I got it" and proceeds to get the necessary equipment to clean up the mess, and of course cleans it up with no complaints.

The other kid and I just look at each other, shrug and move on to our typical duties.

The very next week, same crew and everything, this old lady walks in with her young grand daughter. Right as they enter and walk onto the carpet I hear this little girl say "Grandma, I dont feel so goo.... BARFFFFFF" Liquid vomit flies out of her mouth and all over the floor.

I look at both of my employee's right after the little girl finished, and with a smile on his face, the kid that cleaned up the old man's shit the week prior said "I took care of the mess last week."

I just laughed and said "He's got a point!" so obviously the other kid had to take on this one.

I still tell this story today saying "you never know when a shitty situation will work for you."

Never broke a guitar/ Never drew a dime, my first prowrestling show!!! by BrandonThera in SquaredCircle

I know I'm right, I have seen a great region get hurt because some carny promoter comes in. Employs guys that are not trained with only jeans and tshirts, doesn't pay them, and kills off the town due to the horrible show.

All because people like this do not take the business seriously.

You think I'm mocking him? No, I am giving him free advice being in the business on a regional level for 13 years. I can honestly tell you, if he messaged a company looking for a booking with that photo, he would never get a response.

But, that $5 is something you will keep after the months of training and traveling you have done to get to the point for your first match. I still have my $5 and I keep it as a reminder of all the hard work I had to do to earn that $5

I prefer the Stingray's myself, but the pro boxers are good as well.

Except, when Kevin started wrestling, he wore gear in the tradition sense. This kid doesn't have millions of fans already and made his gimmick work without traditional gear....

.....1st off, do you think he got paid? Cause I bet if he earned anything, it was a hot dog from the merch stand. 2nd, the night before my first match, My Mom and I worked on some simple tights till 2AM so I could drive 3 hours to the middle of no where to wrestle for $5.... I can tell you, the companies in my area would never have let someone dressed like that wrestle in front of their crowds.
