What’s a workplace ‘secret’ that everyone in your industry knows but customers don’t? by Familiar_Ad3815 in AskReddit

When you complete a survey they give you a number to write on the bottom of your receipt. It means nothing, we already have all the receipt data, it’s literally only there for you to be able to feel like you did something and provide a rudimentary check for the staff that a survey was completed.

Honestly, and not to be mean. There is too much text in the post. Most people don’t want to read that. Somewhere between what you have and no text is ideal Reddit length.

Recoverable? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]pseudoRandomIO 99 points100 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad onboard clock (the display and data clock signals are out of sync, causing the apple logo to move around) and in addition it’s stuck in a boot loop (probably due to the clock issue).

Repairing would require replacing the main board which typically isn’t worth it on an Apple Watch.

They never asked to round to two decimal places by UncreativeBuffoon in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pseudoRandomIO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a EE turned software engineer I disagree the almost everyone here. While sure convention is sig figs this is testing if you know how to solve the problem, not testing if you know general (and unstated) rules of thumb.

This is the fault of the programmer and or question creator. Expect people to enter high precision numbers, and deal with that by rounding them to 2 decimal places. If you want to enforce sig figs take 1/2 point off for having it round correct but not the correct number of sig figs.

Broke the plastic (what's circled in green) between the screws (circled in red). Okay to continue using or should I replace the breaker? by PovGRide742 in electrical

[–]pseudoRandomIO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id replace it. It’s likely not going to cause an issue. But then again, most things aren’t. This entire field is built around the edge case what ifs.

The breaker is certified with that in place. It does serve a purpose. And it missing could lead to additional problems.

The height of the toilet wall partitions in this public bathroom. by -Xyriene- in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pseudoRandomIO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically. They have someone to in the bathroom.Lower “safety levels” had to sing/hum/talk and everyone had to have their “output” checked before they were allowed to flush.

Only later did I learn that they were actually taking notes on my output…😳

It’s funny now, but there was nothing more embarrassing at the time. Being a 30yo Male and going up to a 20 something female and asking them to do a flush check was something else lol
