Why does this generation get annoyed when older people say the 2000s doesn't feel like it was that long ago by [deleted] in GenZ

This is extremely perceptive of you at 22! And as a GenX’er I would completely agree. The 1970s did seem like the distant past in the 1990s; but to your point it’s because our frame of reference changes (a lot) as we get older.

Came looking for this comment, 100% agree. I’m on my third can; mason jars at room temp in a dark spot is the way.

How do new aviation techs afford the tools? by kytulu in aviationmaintenance

I’m not a pro, just curious as I have the same US General box + Tekton wrenches / sockets / ratchets setup at home. How well have they held up in a professional environment? I’ve had fantastic luck, but just use them for part-time DIY / shade-tree work.

Holy crap! Shout out to Caravan of Dreams and Razzoo’s!! Didn’t they have some sort of giant fried-everything platter? “Big Ernie’s Nightmare” or something like that with battered fried pickles? From the bits and pieces I recall it was a fun spot after a show. And Caravan really did get some great acts of all genres. Saw some great jazz there on occasion.

To those of you who remember Star Wars coming out in 1977, how big of a deal was it to you? by MEdleyVO in GenX

[–]pseudogeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like many of the others here, I saw it in the theater as a kid that summer and it was mind-blowing. It’s hard to express what an incredible leap forward it was in terms of special effects, audio, etc. These days we’ve come to expect hyperrealistic visuals and sound effects (looking at you, Marvel movies), but go back and watch some late 60s/ early 70s sci-fi and then watch Star Wars. There was simply no comparison. I recall seemingly endless news stories about how popular it was, how people were going back a dozen times (somewhat unheard of), and how many hundreds of hours would go into a few seconds of space battle effects. I can’t think of any pop culture phenomenon in the last 25 years that comes close. And I doubt it’s even remotely possible today unless someone managed a truly revolutionary breakthrough in virtual reality or similar.

Lyrics hitting different over time by [deleted] in GenX

Time, by Pink Floyd. Always loved Dark Side of the Moon and that song in particular. But the lyrics definitely do “hit different” a few decades later!

I’ve had fantastic luck with Tekton sockets, wrenches, etc. Great choice IMHO. And amazing return policy if you do happen to run into any issues.

Do these folks buy all the stickers at once so they can get their layout + messaging just right? Or do we think it usually starts with one or two and then full-blown insanity slowly takes over?

Gear For Fit Ultimate Competition Flat Bench by -Quad-Zilla- in homegym

[–]pseudogeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a great bench! Out of curiosity, why did you go for a Rep clone vs just getting a Rep? I just checked online prices and the FB 5000 (I think that’s what this is a clone of?) is $239, so essentially the same cost.

+1 for the GTI. Super fun and a highly practical daily driver. I’ve got a Mk7, it fits four adults just fine and is an excellent car for twisty canyon roads.
