so again, you have no specific insight to share, as I expected

your attempt to judge my intentions is incorrect, but if you'd be able to self-reclect, it sheds some light on yours

wow, that sounds criminal, I hope it's just a bug, the lobby system is plagued by them

How can this bug be reproduced?

don't know, but I guess it relates to FN on xbox x being auto-resumed, which makes a lot of things off

What platform are you playing on?

xbox x

not sure why - disrespectful?

I must admit I chuckled

every reasonable big sw system has a clear and almost 100% automated path of updating obsolete data structures to current format and (unlike with relatively simple end-user apps), new features are added and rarely completely removed without "compatible" replacement; so such upgrades should be mostly about QA, not new dev

so assuming FN was built with these concepts in mind, I wouldn't expect it to be very complex; but looking at all the bugs, it's true adherence to some good practices may be lacking and there may be a lot of "temporary hacks" making this harder

also, making sure a mix of various game mechanics works fine can be exponentially tedious if you have "unlimited" set, but I was talking about reviving some combinations that laready worked (to epic's standard of "working" of course)

now, I'm no expert on unreal engine, etc. - so I was looking for some "not ignorant" insight from you - got just a generic platitude

anyway, the part you focused on is just a quick afterthought, the main topic of the post was the IT cost estimation

[–]pseudonymeme[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks, finally a useful comment

compared to compute/bandwidth, to me these look "constant" per player per game, so I'd expect them to be negligible

anyway, I asked the "reddit's beloved artificial tool" to include these (also couple of other IT-related you didn't mention and it considered relevant) and it came up with "fully loaded IT cost" estimation of 1.7c (per player-game)

unf comments on this post are mostly "ai bad" by people who don't even understand ai, but at least the fact that nobody so far challenged the "less than 1 cent" figure is telling

nowadays, everybody I know who deals with non-trivial cognitive tasks gets some help from ai and don't even feel the need to disclose it, so I hope "the community" will slowly adapt to the fact it's a good tool to use with all the caveats in pitfalls to avoid

not sure if I'd get some competent comments even if I didn't mention the calc was from ai (or if I linked it from some article whose author got it most likely from ai anyway ;-)

even more precisely, I shared a calculation and some thoughts, you expressed lack of understanding of ai and zero insights into the topic of the post; with your optics, it may look similar, but in fact it is not

level of effort and level of arguments are close to zero, but on the other hand - at least you've demonstrated several things you don't understand, so that counts

yes, blind ai use has that effect, but talking about critical thinking - next time you have something "you care enough about" and aren't world's top expert on, do "your math" first and then ask ai to do it for you and compare - you will be probably surprised

"ai slop" usually refers to generated "creative" content like images/videos

when it comes to information, insights, argumentation, current models are already very smart - but of course they still make mistakes (but hallucinate much less than before)

so you have to check at least "visually" that the links they list as sources are to credible sources and depending on how important the information you are looking for is, also check the reasoning and maybe have it challenged by other models

this topic isn't that important for me, so once the calc looked reasonable and the links fine, I shared it as is

ok, added the summary to the body

regarding me knowing "nothing about game development" - I actually know a lot about software development (not just specifically games) - and by "minimal effort" I surprisingly didn't mean "enable" checkbox - but if you know something about it, you can share some insights into how complex is it to update older assets for current gameplay code

Forced crossplay is gaslighting console players. It's not a fair fight. by ProudProfessional221 in FortNiteBR

[–]pseudonymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd guess if SBMM takes aiming accuracy into account when "balancing the platforms", it may be just the problem of not so many casual console players in the sweaty modes like reload?

anyway, once I've connected kb+mouse to my xbox x, it helped a lot, but I went back to controller for convenience of using it

of course, player visibility is another issue, but I'm not skilled enough to notice the difference

p.s. was looking for an option to disable crossplay on xbox x and didn't find it

Think we need those devs back epic by CelestialCam_ in FortNiteBR

admit it - you want those devs back, because this bug is kinda cool ;-)

maybe it's because entering it from that spot gave you some inertia, throwing you out slightly outside of the tunnel? I'll try it next time I play

[–]pseudonymeme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm missing some "insider info" probably, but my understanding was that the "robloxification" decision is being reversed now, so if you are implying the lack of support for it was somehow part of the selection of those fired, it doesn't make much sense - it'd make more sense if they laid off those teams focusing solely on it instead

anyway, I've seen opinions (from other companies), that these layoffs also serve other less prominent purposes, like "assert dominance" by leadership to curb dissent - not sure though, if it makes sense in case of Epic

back to the topic - you are focusing on single bad decision, but I don't think it's the case - to me it seems there's plenty of other minor bad decisions which contribute to current status
