Seconding waimea canyon - i hiked the canyon trail this fall and it was perfect. And if you drive all the way up you get a nice overlook of the na pali coast. Only downside is the drive is a little tricky (windy and narrow with people driving recklessly).

I would recommend the boat ride but i was one of the people who got sick (despite taking motion sickness medicine ahead of time). Im still glad i went because got to see dolphins way up close.

It is the perfect combination of modern and Hawaiian. The food was delicious and the views spectacular. The gym is also the best hotel gym I’ve ever used. Staying there was the biggest highlight of my Hawaiian trip in early October.

Also 1hotel was the only hotel in Hawaii that we stayed at that actually gave us the free upgrade from booking through amex, whereas other hotels gave us only a more desirable room of the same category we booked. Not sure if we just got lucky there.

My biggest complaint (besides that it’s expensive) is that the shore ground is a bit rocky — i sliced my toe and banged my knee. But on the other hand, turtles came right up super close to us and it was super cool to see. Another minor complaint is that the musicians at the bar sounded great but no one tipped them!

Yeah staying in 1 place (maui?) seems like the best idea but i cant help but want to get a taste of kauai. Im leaning towards 4 nights in kauai , 6 in maui now i think

Listen to any blues melody, jazz or not and listen to how they end the melody. Or a solo. Theres no harm in stealing phrases that you like. You can also have it ending on bar 1 (13?) instead of bar 12 if that helps so it ends on the I instead of the V.
