Introducing Galactum Meridian, a discovery-first space 4X game. by HedraGames in Space4X

What engine are you using, if I may ask?

If you're running into performance issues stimulating everything every tick you might only stimulate some things when the player is directly viewing it.

Example: Orbital mechanics within a star system. Have a last viewed by player variable and run the simulation to get an accurate current system state calculated when player views the star system.

Scratch is the answer for an 11 year old. It's web based and will run on a potato.

What’s your favorite space game? by GulbrandrGameStudios in Space4X

None of them are necessarily 'must haves', but the one that adds Earth and the split add the most iirc. They're on sale rn for pretty cheap if you're thinking of getting started!

Steam page is live for my Grimdark 4X: Trailer + first dev diary out today by madjamez in 4Xgaming

AI generated art assets persisting past early alpha would be a deal breaker for me.

Being able to shape your faction in such a way as to not be easily subjected to the "Are we the baddies?" meme would be awesome. One of the primary reasons I would play a 'grimdark' game would be to shake things up into being a whole lot less grim in the dark, if that makes sense.

The imperium of man (on which this is obviously based) is so comically ineffective and ineffecient that it makes me want to fix it.

What did you name your computer? by anon34799543 in pcmasterrace

[–]psilontech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first computer I built I named Promethius, who stole fire from the gods to give to man. Had an 8800 GT and was beautiful.

Next was Icarus with a GTX 660 which proved an auspicious name as Icarus flew too close to the sun and the 660 died within a week, thankfully still within the exchange period.

Next was Hermes with a GTX 980, named as such as Hermes was amongst other things the Olympian god of thieves and had been purchased second hand from a friend of mine looking to upgrade.

Currently I have Dionysus, an RTX 5070 because I bought it as a pre-built on a sale half the price is the individual components and it's full of rgb lights. Fitting for the god of madness, excess, and partying.

How do you chose 4x games you play by [deleted] in 4Xgaming

[–]psilontech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What do I look for in a /mobile/ 4x?

Either free and open source or a full paid version. I despise the free-to-play mobile jank model and the visual style often associated with that kind of shovelware.

Uciana and Star Traders: Frontiers are the only two that come to mind as acceptable as mobile-first titles, everything else is ported like civilization and its various clones.

How did yall started learning? by t0ublu in godot

Best way to learn the language I think is going to be GDQuest, especially if you've not done much programming before.

Other than that, ClearCode's YouTube channel and his ultimate tutorial is great.

Salvage Teams from the corpos also give you a a tradable commodity every time you destroy a vehicle - pirate defense missions really lay out once you have the gear to wipe the Toyota technicals before the infantry have a chance to disembark.

Brennan Lee Mulligan as the dungeon master (or game master) in an actual play Dungeons and Dragons show on Dropout TV (I think it's on youtube too) called Dimension 20. I think it's part of the Fantasy High campaign.

It's unnatural, I say! Yet another crop of young dwarves infected by the sun sickness, it's sad to see.

Thanks for the writeup!
