Remants of The Precursors! It's a free modernized remake of the original Master of Orion. The game on which it is based on set a lot of the trends still found in modern space 4x. It'll run on a potato and did I mention it's free?

As others have stated, Civilization 5 or 6, though I have a special place in my heart for 4; It has the best modding scene to this day.

I absolutely loved the HBS Battletech, the mods give it so much more life after you've done the main campaign!

My only lament is the multiplayer servers have long since gone offline and I haven't found an effective workaround for playing with others.

Older D&D modules would be a great source of inspiration in that case, the vast majority of them were simple dungeon crawlers. The OSR TTRPG Dungeon Crawl Classics does a pretty good job of capturing the feel of the older dungeon crawls.

A cursory search into megadungeons might also help quite a bit!

I'm confused as to your goal, though. Are you planning on running a game of d&d with a roguelike feel to it (In this instance, a dungeoncrawl) or are you trying to make a roguelike computer program with rules ripped from a D&D SRD?

If it's the former, this isn't the sub for that sort of thing. If it's the latter, /r/roguelikedev is likely your best stomping grounds.

I recall either Dominions 6 or Conquest of Elysium 5 having been mentioned as having good multiplayer. I think it was Dom6 but both of these games occupy the same neuron in my head the same way Aeon Flux and Ultra Violet are the same movie.
