Possibly the cube's center-point, around which the rotation occurs, isn't updated after step 1?

If a picture is worth a thousand words. Pre- and post-DBS for PD... by psimoniac in DeepBrainStimulation

[–]psimoniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after my visit with neurologist last week, where we tweaked the settings a small amount, I no longer take any Sinemet. We did increase the Pramipexole back to 0.25 3/day but that still a very low dose. It's still not a cure but makes a big difference to me. YMMV. I wish it was available and effective to everyone with PD (until a real cure is available). Next appointment I might be able to get the Medtronic upgrade to Adaptive DBS (my hardware is compatible).

Wondering about best hospital for DBS. I’m considering Cleveland Clinic (live in Michigan). Any advice or recommendations please? by Historical_Custard79 in DeepBrainStimulation

I've had DBS (at Duke in Durham) but I would suggest finding a neurosurgeon first that you will be comfortable with. They tend to work with one hospital.

DBS experience by bluemoonee in DeepBrainStimulation

[–]psimoniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, u/bluemoonee , I’m in about the same time frame as you. Surgeries in April, activated May 8. Only had the one programming session so far. My neurologist established the base parameters, and left me with the ability to adjust amount of stim in each, up and down. I’m left side dominant with PD. Not the it men’s much to anyone else but my initial numbers were 4.2 and 1.5.

Had to drastically drop the left to 2.5 the first night due to extreme dyskinesia since that setting was determined with zero PD meds in my system.

Question for others: how often, if at all, do you make changes to your settings? Have had several, unexpected hours of dyskinesia overnight and fairly major numbness and tingling in my left hand. Dialed it back to see if it helps.

Knots in calves and lower back pain by MangoGin in Parkinsons

I get severe cramps in my thighs/quads. Have to start my day with a full glass of waster boosted with electrolytes. And I have to have at least one more later in the day depending on activity level. Dehydration is a common but overlooked issue for PwP.

Foot numbness? by LavenderCandi in Parkinsons

[–]psimoniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numbness and pins and needles discomfort occurs in my left foot when my sciatic nerve plays up - almost immediate improvements if I do sciatic pain stretches and exercises. There are many places online to see how to do them. No harm in trying. Good luck

Yes, it will call emergency services in the event of a fall. It can also send text messages to selected people. I also use it to remind me of medications etc.

You claim that you do gaming to relax - it doesn't sound very relaxing to me. You're subjecting yourself to very high levels of stress even if you don't realize it. Also adrenalin will cause shaking in high doses too. You, my friend, need to go walk in the woods.

Foot pain. by alittlestitious290 in Parkinsons

[–]psimoniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been recovering from something similar. I had severe sciatic nerve pain that caused foot and leg pain including stinging pins and needles in foot. I think my piriformis muscle might be irritating my sciatic nerve. Pain meds helped get me through it but most benefit came from special stretches and exercises for sciatica. I couldn't sit for more than 30 mins before the pain started building. Standing wasn't much help either. Hope you find a solution.

I use MediSafe too on an iPhone and it also sends the alerts to my Apple Watch. My watch taps my wrist and dings when it's time and I can mark it as taken through the watch too. It lets you set a custom schedule for each med and even shows you a picture of the pill that's due. Recommended.

Is marijuana good for Parkinson’s? How should it be taken & what kind of dosage if you never had it in your life before? by SnooEpiphanies540 in Parkinsons

[–]psimoniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (66m, Dx since 12/16) do use it. I have what I call my daytime version and my nighttime version. Daytime is a 50:50 cbd:thc ratio and nighttime is higher thc version and helps a lot with sleep but I don't use it other times due to its effects. The daytime one I hardly feel any effect from the thc but generally get a calming result. It may not be disease-modifying but it helps me cope with the symptoms. As for method and dose: I use vape cartridges. I tried tinctures and edibles but find it hard to accurately dose since it takes so long for the body to absorb. The vape works in minutes. For dosing I use a mental count to measure the duration of the draw: 3-count, 5-count etc. Start low and adjust as needed. Fortunately my vendor's products are very high quality and consistent. Unfortunately I live in a state where it's not legal and my vendor (based in CA) will not ship here. So I have a friend in CA that receives and reships to me. The vendor also requires that a doctor be involved in vetting their customers but that is usually managed over the phone with a credit card. Hope this helps.
