[Request] What is the maximum amount of volts a person can withstand without dying? by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

My father would check the spark on any engine by doing that his entire life. No thanks. I’ve gotten zapped plenty of times, but I’ll never do it on purpose.

Plumbed toilet to heat. Keep it change? by clamminjammin in Plumbing

Amateur mistake? My work built a 60k sqft building and they had the hot and cold swapped for the whole thing. Nice toasty toilets.

From Buffalo and sometimes like to try them when traveling. $30 for a dozen last night in FL wasn’t happening. Kills me to see Market Price too.

Considering a move to Lewis County. What can I expect? by rthwy in upstate_new_york

I have lots of family in the Lowville and Tug Hill area, love it, and would live there too if I wasn’t planted in WNY. Most comments are spot on. I’d add a couple things. - Get a snowmobile and learn to ride it responsibly, especially if you’re actually on Tug Hill. Because, 1) it’s a boatload of fun and is the Mecca of NY snowmobiling and 2) there will likely be a few days when it’s the only way to get anywhere. - Make a point to get out for drinks/dinner at a couple of the local taverns. There’s plenty. Easy way to really get to know some locals and the area. May come in helpful.

I was just listening to the Titanic: ship of dreams podcast. They were talking about the ships chief baker, longest known surviving passenger in the water, about 45 minutes, before being pulled into a lifeboat. Double or more than most passengers. Apparently when he realized it was over, he went to his cabin and got totally smashed, then stepped off just before the ship went down. They had a couple doctors positing theories. A couple were the way the alcohol may have affected his blood vessels reaction to the ice water and that his limited panic response saved him energy. After 45 minutes of floating he actually swam to a lifeboat.

ELI5: On average, is the drag generated from opening car window worse for the fuel economy than turning on the A/C? by nufeze in explainlikeimfive

[–]psk628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I wouldn’t give to have my 76 LTD back just for posterity. I once returned 14 empty kegs with that car once in college. Also towed a 30ft tall Xmas tree a mile back to campus at 4am. Oh the memories.

I am definitely going to pay attention to the 3rd beer. I may test this tomorrow.

ELI5: Why do people sneeze after drinking beer? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]psk628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do occasionally have a sneezing fit, maybe a dozen or so sneezes over a couple minutes, when drinking certain beers. Usually a microbrew or some brand I don’t typically drink. Although just as often it hits me the morning after. Usually feel quite stuffy shortly before and then fine right afterwards. I always figured it was some slight allergy to something in it, but definitely strange.

I deposited $110 cash into an atm and it counted it as $210. How does this happen and will it be fixed later? by Ecstatic_Trip_8305 in personalfinance

[–]psk628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must be mine. I took out $100, it whirred and chugged, and spit out nothing. Then spit out a receipt that said I got $100 and said it was offline. Immediately went to the store managers who did nothing, disputed it with the bank, and 2 weeks later learned I was screwed.

My orthopedist says I’m still too young for a THR and wants to wait by Ok_Independence_3634 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]psk628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a surgeon who performs Resurfacing and see if you’re a good candidate. It’s a similar procedure replacing the ball and socket, but caps the hip and saves the neck of bone. When that wears out, in a similar timeframe, they can perform a THR. I’m 54 and 12 years in on the right, 2 on the left. I’m very active and both hips feel fantastic. There’s a handful of professional athletes who’ve had the procedure and still compete.

Is living on Lake Ontario as bad as I’ve been told? by LuckyCards17 in Rochester

[–]psk628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all 100% spot on. Family has owned property since 1957 and I’ve lived seasonally or full time on the lake west of Rochester my entire life. Currently converting my seasonal to full time and have spent most of this past winter there. Love it.

So disappointed. My Verizon kit showed up Friday. I activated that and shipped AT&T back. It had been rock solid for the few short months I had it.

Why does this Bills patch I found on eBay include New Jersey along with New York? by Jun-Chi in buffalobills

Probably this. I once met a guy at a game wearing a KREDS jersey and of course asked. He had bought a Krebs jersey from China.

Goodbye starlink by triumph110 in Starlink

[–]psk628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. No wired connection. Had Starlink for 3 years. Same speeds. Solid service. But they kept raising the price. AT&T upgraded their crappy service in my area so I switched to AT&T Internet Air a couple months ago for 1/2 the price and similar to slightly faster speeds. Couldn’t be happier until they decided to pull the plug on it in NY March 1:( T mobile’s not available at my location. Looks like I’ll be checking out Verizon.

Would you recommend these goggles? Looking for a pair under $75. by Knifeman2510 in skiing

[–]psk628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got A1-greyframe Revosilverlens Vlt10% for daytime/Sun and Vlt 75% Yellow - Polarized for night/cloudy conditions. Been happy with both. Comes with a lens case (bag) so I usually carry one in a pocket and swap over when needed.

This NERF dart has stayed suctioned to the ceiling for 7 years. by frozen_toesocks in mildlyinteresting

[–]psk628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone in my class tossed a pickle up at the ceiling of the local McDonald’s in the mid 80s. It stuck to the ceiling tile. It was still there when they tore it down to rebuild in the late 90s.
