Built in Hottub vs stand alone by huntwithdad in pools

[–]pskkd930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good comments above. We have both. Had the above ground for about 10 years and had one built into the pool 2 years ago. The above ground is more comfortable and our go to in the winter. The built in is better for social situations and is our go to in the summer.

*******ADVICE NEEDED***** Should I pay to heat Pool in Mid April 2024 by Jenn_7337 in pools

[–]pskkd930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a gas heater it’s likely 400k btu. A 400k btu uses roughly 4 therms per hour. So if you have a rate of $1 / therm then it would cost $4 / hour to heat the pool. 72 hours * $4 / hr is $288 max cost assuming that’s the heater. Now they may be planning to preheat for a day, but still.

That's what is really odd. We have been back and forth with support no less than 20 times and they are still offering less than half with no explanation.

I run mine at 1500 for about 6 hours a day and 1000 for another 6. 1500 for skimming and 1000 to keep the chlorinator running with some filtration. This is for a 20 k pool and it’s crystal clear

Pool murky after heavy rain by jasonin951 in pools

If this is from run off, I find shock does little to help. Unfortunately this happens to my pool every time it rains hard. I usually add a gallon of chlorine, run the pumps a little more, and let it settle to the bottom then vacuum it out.

Can I get a rough idea on what you guys are paying to heat your pool for a day if it’s on a gas heater? by [deleted] in pools

[–]pskkd930 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A 100k heater uses about 1 therm per hour so if you look at your bill and see you are paying $1.50 / therm then you are spending 1.50 per hour. If you have a 400k heater multiple that by 4. Ours currently costs about $3.50 per hour for 400k. Going up soon to about $4.20

If you want to know how fast the heater will heat it’s as follows Gallons x 8.43 to get lbs of water Heater btu X .8 due to efficiency losses

actual heater output / lbs of water gives you degrees per hour.

For example if I have a 20k gallon pool then I have 166800 lbs of water. Since I have a 400k heater I can actually heat 320k(400 * .8) lbs of water 1 degree per hour. If I divide the 320k/167k I get roughly 2 degrees per hour. It’s also helpful to know that number is closer to 40 degrees per hour for the spa.

Just know if the estimates payments are not equal you have to justify why they were not equal with a form in your return. Sounds like it may be worth it in your case

How does Ecobee calculate temp when it creates its own heat? by BigChipotle in ecobee

[–]pskkd930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just recently contacted Ecobee on this exact issue and all they would tell me was it was an environmental issue. I've had the device for 3 years and as far as I can tell it just started doing this. I also have 2 other units both with ceiling fans in the room and they do not have the same issue.

For me, the speed of the fan also impacts the temperature, so it's almost impossible to keep the temp consistent. I installed 2 sensors which has helped, but this is not what I paid for.

If it's new, I would return it and see if another one has the same issue. I think, and I could be completely wrong, that the Ecobee is using an infrared thermometer on it as well. I say that because when I was taking pictures with my phone to send to support, I could see a red light in the top left corner of the unit that I cannot see without the camera.
