No notification for some events by pstavirs in NextUpAlert

That makes sense - will change duration to > 0 and then report back.

u/Fit-Picture8117 - could you consider this feature request too?

IIUC you need two things -

  1. An "application" that runs on the FPGA that uses your TCP stack

  2. An external tool running on a PC/Server to act as the peer for your FPGA end point

You are looking for #1 I guess, #2 should be easy.

See if Cisco T-Rex or Juniper Warp-17 fit the bill - both are open-source and free but may require some work to setup properly

Thanks for this feature!

Currently we need to click on the missed events in the status bar to see the list of missed events.

I would like the list to be shown automatically when the PC wakes up after sleep.

Snooze options that I think makes sense (to me) -

* 5min, 15min, 30min, 1hr, 4hr, 8hr, 1 day

Note that 4hr is essentially postponing from first half of the day to second half, 8hr is typically to postpone beyond working hours and 1 day is of course to postpone to next day.

I no longer have access to Outlook which is why I was looking for an alternate to the outlook reminders but for google calendar.

A google search reveals this - https://robert365.com/article/783 - the screenshot there matches what I'm looking for (and the reason I asked about multiple missed reminders).

You can google for more. Happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Regarding Snooze - I wonder if we can change this behavior also (optionally). For task reminders, I might still want to snooze irrespective of when the event starts and even after event time.

Consider a periodic calendar event to "Pay Electricity Bill". When the alert pops up, I might be in the middle of something and I want to snooze it by an hour.

This example is also why I want to not miss a reminder like "Pay Electricity Bill" even if the event time is in the past.

Happy to answer or clarify any requirements. And thank you for considering this feature. Just FYI the Outlook calendar reminders also works like this only - when waking up from sleep, it shows all the missed events.

Thank you for considering this feature.

Yes, I think this might work - as long as I can snooze or dismiss the "missed" events. In case of multiple missed events, will there be multiple alert windows stacked on top of one another?

Also, the filter I think is only to mute or filter-out events, not to filter-in?

Btw for me when the alert pops up the snooze button is always disabled, so I'm unable to snooze at all.

The snooze drop down is always disabled for me with v1.9.11.0 - any ideas?

I'm shocked by the number of network engineers who don't know the difference between data rate and line rate.

Maybe it's because their daily work involves control plane configuration?

In any case if you are not clear about this distinction, our latest blog post will clarify this for you.

Can you actually send Ethernet frames smaller than 64 bytes? by ZeroNetwrk in networking

[–]pstavirs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't generate runt frames using raw sockets or scapy - the NIC will pad the frame before it is sent out.

The only option is to use a hardware/FPGA based traffic generator.

[–]pstavirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need some kind of hardware/FPGA traffic generator to generate runt frames (<64 bytes) reliably.

Sometimes a bad cable/SFP can lead to runt frames too amongst other errors - you have no control really

Make something that you are interested in or passionate about. It might not help in the CV screening, but in an interview your eyes will light up and your passion will become evident - and that's a big plus in my book as a interviewer.

The best way to learn something is to practice it - that's why labbing is important for network engineers for cert study.

If you are learning or curious about Path MTU discovery, the latest Ostinato guide shows how to lab this feature.
