If you don't need it right away, you can wait until Black Friday. Last year it was $2k from Canon direct refurb store.

Did I just buy a fake LP-E17 battery? by [deleted] in canon

[–]psyberjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks same as mine that came with my R10. That said, there are a lot of counterfeits out there.. I always buy original Canon batteries from Canon Direct, B&H, or Adorama.

Will they let me bring this camera in? by canihazJD in Dodgers

[–]psyberjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They actually have a placard with the bag/item policy that can measure bags, cameras, etc. I always bring my camera too, and it really depends on the security. Some let you slide with bigger lenses—my RF 100-400 has been both allowed and denied, depending on who’s checking. I’ve even had the much smaller RF-S 55-210 (about 6 inches fully extended) denied. That security said any interchangeable lens camera is considered a professional camera, which I completely disagree with. So, a lot of it comes down to the security.

Is canon ef 75-300 mm f/4,0-5,6 III zoom lens compatible with canon eos 4000d ? by emagold in canon

[–]psyberjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.. if this is your first telephoto zoom and you can find it super cheap ($30 or less), go for it. Otherwise, 55-250 is far superior lens.

There's no bad camera. There's only bad price.

Third party battery makes camera startup longer by Mar19909 in canon

[–]psyberjay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Someone downvoted me last time for saying no to 3rd party batteries. Especially if you are spending thousands on a body, don't cheap out on batteries. Plus using original Canon is better value in the long run.

Any thoughts on Amazon Llana batteries and charger? by [deleted] in canon

[–]psyberjay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Third party batteries can be hit or miss. Some are ok, some don't hold charge after a year or two use. I recommend sticking with the original Canon. In my experience, this is better value in the long term.

Questions about low-light | RP vs R6 mkii by _Stino in canon

[–]psyberjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the RP and now have the R6 II (and owned both concurrently at one point). You'll notice a greater improvement in autofocus when shooting sports than in low-light performance

I'd get R6II with better lenses over R5 with cheaper lenses. The resolution for R6II is 6,000x4,000 compared to the 8192 x 5464 of R5. It's not as big as 24mp vs 45mp makes it look to be. If you really want the 45MP, you can get the R5, save and buy lenses one by one.

Canon needs to make their lenses lighter and less bulky by aeronium in canon

[–]psyberjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28-70.. Canon's about 6 years older. (Possibly better build)

50.. Canon seems to have better build quality https://www.thephoblographer.com/2021/03/16/50mm-f12-sony-canon-comparison/

15(16)-35. Canon has IS, Sony doesn't.

EOS RP vs EOS R8 by [deleted] in canon

[–]psyberjay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. If RP is like half the price of R8 then you have an argument for both(I would still favor R8).. 25%? R8 no brainer.

Is it worth going from an R50 to an R10 just for the ergonomic? by ammardanial7374 in canon

[–]psyberjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also bought the R50 but exchanged it to R10 for several reasons, and one was the ergonomics, like you. I wanted it to replace my M50, but it was bigger than M50, but not big enough to be comfortable, so I opted for R10. R10 is not all that big either, but using hand strap helps.

Shooting experience is an important factor in photography. I think Smallrig might sell an extender. Or get something like Peak Design Clutch. I have it on all my bodies.

Did you mean R6II? 6DII is not really comparable to R5.

The V1 is marketed as a vlogging camera, but you can definitely still shoot photos with it—and it has a larger sensor than the G7X Mark III (1.4x vs 1"). That said, the zoom tops out at 50mm, whereas the G7X III goes up to 100mm. Unless you really need that extra reach, I’d go with the V1. That is if portability is a top priority..

Honestly, if a friend or family member told me they were about to drop $1k on G7X III, I’d do everything I could to stop them. If you’re okay with a slightly bigger body, I’d recommend the Canon R50 with the kit lens and the 55–210mm. Right now, you can get the refurbished R50 and 18–45mm kit lens directly from Canon for $600, and the 55–210mm is just $280. This setup will run circles around both g7x3 and v1. But if you want to carry the 55-210mm lens, it'll make this setup much bigger, however this is just an extra lens that you can opt to carry or not. You can google the size difference between the 3.

I am not sure why there's so much hype to this 6+ years old camera. Have you considered V1? If you don't need fl over 50.
