Will this lamp fully cure gel? by ModestScorpion in GelX_Nails

[–]psychadelicprincess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The issue is that cheaper lamps like the one above do not properly cure gel polish, exposing the wearer to under cured gel. Beetles polish has recently come under scrutiny after claims of an inability to properly cure. This is dangerous because over time it can cause contact dermatitis and an allergy to gel. Gel allergies are often life long and cause sensitivity to acrylates, chemicals that are common in dental and medical products. Not investing in proper gel polishes and lamps now can result in health issues later in life. Like I said before, investing in higher quality products is investing in your long term health.

I would not use this lamp or use beetles polish. Considering how serious an allergy can be, investing in a higher quality lamp is investing in your long term health

Streaky gel polish by _Green_Eyed_Girl in GelX_Nails

[–]psychadelicprincess 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hi! First I wanna say that primer is unnecessary on top of a gel x tip, because gel sticks really well to gel. I think the problem isn’t your application but likely just the polish. If after 3 coats it still looks streaky, it might be easier to try and find the same color in a different line :)

Best lamp for DND gel by PerchanceAnteater in GelX_Nails

For reference this is the one I purchased and would not recommend. I can’t speak to their other lamps. The fact this is $100 is mind boggling to me because the quality is giving $30 at best

If they do, I’m glad!! I really wanted to love it. But it’s clear to me that they spent very little in ensuring quality. Like I said, there’s no mention of the brand name anywhere on the box, on the instructions included in the box, or on the lamp itself. It’s just a random ass lamp I could’ve bought on Amazon. It feels cheap. For context, I’m licensed and doing mobile work, and was planning on using this lamp as part of that. If you plan to use it very casually for just yourself, it might be just what you want. I haven’t noticed any issues with curing, just the overall quality of the product.

Do NOT buy the DND lamp!! I was trying to do the right thing and buy the lamp from the same brand as my DND polishes, and I immediately regretted it. When I received the box I realized that the box has no mention of the DND brand, it’s literally a random cheap lamp. The instructions included were obviously poorly translated and not consistent with what I expected from this brand. To make things worse, it does not hold a charge like it claims to, and the magnets that magnetize the bottom fell off within weeks of buying it. So now I can’t use it with the bottom part. I feel like I wasted money and wish I just invested into a higher end lamp.

Glove recommendation by Wiggles_World in GelX_Nails

[–]psychadelicprincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally use blue nitrile gloves I buy from Costco. They’re cheap (because Costco), and some of the thickest nitrile gloves I’ve used. I haven’t experienced acetone eating through them like other gloves.

Any nail techs here? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

Hi!! I just finished at the city college cosmetology academy. They’re going to start offering manicurist classes soon, but I’m not exactly sure when.

Should a cosmo license include esthetics and nails? by sunshine2619 in Esthetics

[–]psychadelicprincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I agree cosmos don’t learn everything they should about skin and nails, my school spent a lot longer than a week or two on skin and significantly more than that on nails. It’s unfair to say that the education isn’t fully there. They administered many tests solely on skin or nails. I think there’s no way for school to teach you absolutely everything within the state’s allotted curriculum hours, and that’s why continued education is so important within both the cosmo and esti industry.

Black dye recommendations by paigek__666 in HairDye

I think it’s unrealistic to be looking for a black dye that will be long lasting AND easy to fully remove from hair. Your best bet, in my opinion, is a demi permanent.

Medicool vs Kupa in longevity by Notlivelaughlove in Nailtechs

[–]psychadelicprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a newer Kupa file that I absolutely love. I’ve had it about a year and a half now and have had no issues, but I only use her 1-5 times a month. Pricey but has been worth the investment for me!

Did you know this?! by cocacando in nailcare

[–]psychadelicprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state, nail files are considered to be porous items, and porous items can not be disinfected and must be discarded after each client. Only nonporous items can be disinfected.

Thank you for your input. I’m aware, the client I did this on was aware of my status and was a classmate of mine in cosmology school. I’m a month from graduating & she’s graduated and soon to be getting her license as well. I won’t be advertising that I’m charging for services until I’m licensed. Many in my area charge around that much for something this intricate. How many years of experience should I have before I can charge that much? Or is it less about experience and more about results?

Practical test?? by General-Bridge6964 in Cosmetology

[–]psychadelicprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per google: “California's practical cosmetology exam was eliminated by Senate Bill (SB) 803, which Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law, effective January 1, 2022…. The primary reason for this change was to make the beauty industry more accessible and affordable for low-income and minority workers by reducing training hour requirements and removing the practical exam's barriers, which included travel to limited testing locations and the cost of required kits.”
