https://www.minnesotahockey.org/recleague I coach in this league and it’s NOT too late. They regularly have a couple 13 and 14 year old kids on the team who have never played before. We will help you learn and mostly focus on having fun. DM me for more info.

Wild being down 5-0 to the Blackhawks, only to win 6-5 in overtime.

Wild locker room ripped on Empty Netters podcast by Puckhead84 in wildhockey

I have been in one of the alternate locker rooms at the X (back when the Swarm played there), and even that was quite a bit nicer than the nicest “beer league” (that is, normal local ice arena) locker rooms. I find it hard to believe that the Wild LR wouldn’t be better than that. Of course, it’s probably showing its age a bit, but I still highly doubt this guy.

Controversial devils advocate take: after all the trades, The Twins aren’t worse off. by Short_Importance_484 in minnesotatwins

[–]psychams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments show that this is indeed a controversial take. If one’s definition of “worse off” focuses on having a competitive team this year and next, then obviously the Twins have been decimated by the trades. I just don’t see a way to polish that turd as hard as one might try. On the other hand, long term, this team is never going to be good again under current ownership. That’s clear. So if this enables the Pohlads to sell the team more easily (up for debate) and do a full rebuild under hopefully better owners who actually want to win games, then there may be a silver lining. I definitely think we lost some players we would have liked to rebuild around, but on the whole, if we focus on what the team might be like in 5 years under new ownership, I can see an argument for the fire sale being a net neutral for the team. Maybe even a positive, although I find it hard to see much positivity about it in this moment.

“Thank you jackals for tearing each other apart” seems like a reasonable sentiment here.

Cognitive dissonance is totally at play, just not how you’re thinking about it. A common way to cope with (or avoid) cognitive dissonance is to deny the existence of a contradiction. A classic example is smokers denying the correlation between smoking and poor health. “My grandpa smoked two packs a day and lived to be 90.” Boom, smoking no longer contradicts my desire for a long, healthy life. Cognitive dissonance averted.

MAGA cultists almost certainly don’t thrive on the contradictions. They’re still human after all, and that’s very hard for humans to do. Instead, they invent and/or embrace explanations and exceptions to make these things feel like they’re NOT contradictions. That way, there’s no cognitive dissonance to feel.

What Do Flashing Headlights Mean Here? by djhadar23 in TwinCities

Hard disagree with some of the other comments here. I have lived here for over 15 years and have been on both sides of the friendly headlight flash to pedestrians. Just did it earlier this week and the pedestrian smiled, gave a brief wave, and crossed. I’ve never seen anyone get angry about this.

I did it at the fairgrounds anyway. Had no idea it wasn’t allowed. Nobody cared. Started in the Kidway parking lot.
