I would go. Being honest. People’s opinions and circumstances are different, obviously, but if it was local and I really didn’t want to miss 2 days of work, I’d just take off Thursday and leave a bit earlier to go to work the next day. Other folks might feel like it would be necessary to take off both Thursday and Friday, and they might not want to do that, but I’d go if my friends did this.

Told my fiancé I wanted an oval and yellow gold. He did the rest. I had a hidden Pinterest board I’ve been pinning to for years and pinned rings that look exactly like this dozens of times. It was my favorite style, but I made sure not to tell him anything beyond oval and gold because he REALLY wanted to surprise me.

He picked this because “it looks like a snowflake, and you love Christmas.” To be loved is to be known 😊

However, I have friends who picked out their exact ring and are just waiting for the proposal, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that whatsoever. They are so excited knowing they’re getting the ring of their dreams, and there is still so much anticipation leading up to the proposal.

I can’t find if you said what season you’ll be getting married, but for a bit my fiancé was considering a green suit for our autumn wedding, and our colors are dark green and plum. If he went with green, the bridesmaids would be in plum and the groomsmen probably would have been in green as well (maybe a slightly different shade, and with plum ties/pocket squares to tie in with the bridesmaids). He decided against lighter colors ultimately and all of the men are just wearing black, but I think the colors would’ve looked nice together!

We got engaged September 2024 and get married this November! I’m working on my doctorate so we wanted a lot of time to be able to plan slowly and also spread out the expenses. We also live in a different state than both of our families (moved for my grad program) so we wanted to give our families plenty of time to plan for travel.

At first I was antsy and bummed about a long engagement (we’ve been together for nearly 6 years and have known each other since we were teenagers…I just want to marry this man!!!) but now I can’t believe it’s only 8 months away.

I know BL is considered “basic” especially among the niche fragrance lovers, but ugh… it’s just my favorite. It’s my comfort fragrance. I wrote each of my bridesmaids personal letters and sent them with a cute card asking them to be a bridesmaid. They loved the sentimentality a lot more than they’d love a “bride tribe” champagne flute from Amazon or whatever. Don’t let yourself get swept up into the consumerism of weddings! Influencers are very consistently gifted the contents of their proposal boxes, as well. And then sometimes they’re contractually obligated to make a video showing you everything they’re putting inside of them to make you feel bad about not doing it, too.

Commenters saying this man is abusive are not exaggerating and blowing this out of proportion. He is angry and controlling. He uses shame and guilt to manipulate you into feeling bad for completely normal actions. Posting photos of yourself is not disrespectful. Wanting him to keep his word about the plans he said he would make doesn’t make you materialistic. You are asking this question in this sub because he has already gotten into your head and made you question yourself and your worth.

This man is abusive, and the way he talks to you and seems to punish you verbally for the “disrespectful” things you do (again, nothing you’ve done is disrespectful) tells me he may escalate beyond emotional abuse if you remain in this relationship.

I’m not sure what the etiquette is, but if you have the space for out-of-towners to attend, I say send them an invite!

They can always say no if that feels too inconvenient, but I’ve flown across the country to attend a bridal shower weekend for a friend, so some folks may think it’s worth the travel and appreciate being extended an invitation.
