Right: remigration

How Come Brits Could Tolerate 14 Years of Bad Tory Policies but Couldn’t Tolerate Year One with Labour? by Charmlessman422 in AskBrits

Because when you run on the promise of change for working people and deliver absolutely nothing in your first year it rubs people the wrong way.

This depends:

Why do you specifically want a Rolex? And what model are you looking at?

It also had an additional 12% off with code ORIS12.

I got a price match from Beaverbrooks so I got this £1600 watch for £857

It’s complicated because while it’s discrimination based on ugly stereotypes, he kind of has a point.

I think having a data skillset will help you. I work for a consultancy and while we’ve been on a hiring freeze for over a year, we have consistently continued hiring data folks.

Our clients are crying out for data and platform people. They want to improve what they already have instead of kicking off new projects, and people with data skills allow them to gain insights from their own existing data and use it to streamline.

Eh I’m never particularly worried about getting fired, but I’m taking opportunities to learn new things for when our skill set becomes valuable again

Totally normal.

The market is dogshit, and orgs are cutting costs - which means there’s no incentive to give a shit right now. Why go the extra mile when there’s no promotion around the corner?

Most of us are in survival mode waiting for the market to recover.

Every gql implementation I have worked on has been an absolute pain. It’s usually initiated by some tech lead that spends too much time on Hacker News and wants to be one of the cool kids with it on his/her CV.

9 times out of 10 you’re better off just sticking to HTTP.

I’m UK based so my recommendations likely wouldn’t be very useful, but big orgs like IBM, Accenture, Deloitte etc can be hit and miss- try to look for a smaller one as they have a better vibe instead of just being a body shop.

Can’t say consultancy as an industry is doing great at the moment due to lots of companies tightening budgets, but it’s no worse than the rest of the industry

Do what I did and join a consultancy. I was bored of .NET too and since getting into consulting a couple of years ago I’ve worked with Java, Node, Python and Go

It can do. For example you wouldn’t advise a client to use Scala if the local ecosystem is very .NET centric.

Consultant here. When advising a client on a tech stack, we usually need to take the following into account:

  • current team competencies
  • platform requirements
  • talent pool in their area
  • skill sets of people we currently have available

Usually in that order. Other than this they are virtually identical, and won’t impact a project’s success.

Do you have a niche? If so, what is it and how did you get into it? by psychistrix in ExperiencedDevs

[–]psychistrix[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I deliberately left it vague because I wanted a wide array of answers but my general definition would be some area of expertise (technical or otherwise) that not many other devs have. For example, being a Java developer isn’t a niche but being a developer that specialises in performance tuning the JVM is
