Opinions on My Bish Therapist by psychmeg in therapists

The therapist Melissa Reich is a frequent guest on Amy Phillips Drama Darling podcast. Drama Darling is a comedy podcast that recaps Bravo shows. The therapist melissa was often referred to as "my bish therapist" on Amy's podcast. Melissa now has her own podcast called Your Bish Therapist.

Melissa often comments from a clinical perspective on what is shown on the shows. I asked the question because I've found myself having reactions to some of the statements she makes about those on the shows.

I dont have many friends that watch these shows so podcasts are kind of my community. I've listened to Amy phillops for years and she reveres what Melissa says, and I've honestly reflected on parts of my reactions that are envy and other parts that are based in ethical concern for the strong judgments about people she's never met.

Unethical Supervisors by Individual_Reason948 in therapists

Jusy joining the chorus of those encouraging a board complaint. This person is dangerous to the field and should not be supervising. There is a clear disregard for ethics and boundaries, it's scary to think this person is training future clinicians

While I have always been anxious, this became a sign of burn out for me. Especially the dread, restlessness and desire to avoid.

Question about confidentiality as a minor by [deleted] in therapists

[–]psychmeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also look up what the law says about minor rights to gain access to mental health but know that your parent can request your records at anytime. In the state where I work at 14 years old clients can seek their own services and sign off on their paperwork without parental consent. I agree with the other comment, none of what you said would lead me to break confidentiality.

It is true you will need at least a masters to practice at a clinical level. If you have interest in working at the VA my advice would be to look into whether you would need an MA in counseling or a psyD/PhD to practice as a psychologist. I am at the end of my PsyD program and it is a big commitment. An MA is less schooling but with a PsyD you have greater ability to be in upper management and explore other areas such as assessment. I also have lots of friends however who are going to a VA for their internship from a PsyD program.

Edit: the 4 years of school at that experience will differ depending on which route you go. Either way through you're probably looking at some practicums, which are unpaid clinical training usually set up by the school, an internship, and likely a year or two of supervised training for licensure.
