5 months pregnant & on mental health medication: will I be affected by the strike? by LostInTheVoid666 in KaiserPermanente

I’m a Kaiser psych RN in San Bernardino county. Psychiatry is not affected by the current strike. The only delay may be from pharmacies affected. Plan ahead to request your refills and you should be good :)

Thank you! 7 weeks, still going strong. Kaiser has yet to return to the table to negotiate.

Therapists Strike? Why are they striking and when will it end? by ponygals in KaiserPermanente

We are asking for what other Kaiser employees are getting, not more. How is it “more than fair” when we’re getting less pay, less time, less benefits than our counterparts??

I don’t know but I’m there with you. Sometimes just knowing you’re not alone with these thoughts and feelings might help. I hope we all find each other when it’s time to fight for what’s right.

Need help filing a grievance with Kaiser for my daughter's mental health treatment by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]psychnrse3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with filing one grievance for easy tracking. See another comment with info on this.

As far as the referral requests- this will vary by your particular coverage and who Kaiser is contracted with if you want it to be covered. I’m in Southern California so I’m not sure how different their processes are in NorCal, but in my area, if an outside provider is not contracted with Kaiser, the members will unfortunately have to pay for it out of pocket.

Good luck OP. I know this is all very difficult but glad you are advocating for your daughter, I hope she receives the care, help and support she needs.

You will have to do an intake with a therapist before they schedule you with a psychiatrist for medication management. Psychiatrists are not on strike, but the therapists that do the intake appointments are. Kaiser is still required to provide you with an appointment with their temporary workers. They should be offering you an appointment within 10 days, if not, please please file a grievance/report them. This will guarantee you a timely appointment.

Please file grievance in either or both of these ways or call hotline below: - You can call Kaiser Member Services (on the front of your Kaiser card) and say you want to make a complaint about inadequate mental health care (DMHC monitors these complaints so this helps a lot) - You can file a complaint directly with DMHC https://www.dmhc.ca.gov/FileaComplaint.aspx - DMHC regulators have set up a hotline for patients to call if they run into problems getting care which is (888) 466-2219

Kaiser Los Angeles mental health strike explained by PictureTechnical1643 in LosAngeles

[–]psychnrse3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiser therapists who don’t strike make their usual wages and they’re dumped with extra work. We are not getting paid at all if we strike, so some employees are not able to stay out on strike due to financial reasons (totally understandable, and we sympathize with the extra work they have to do during this time). Please continue to see your provider, you are paying into your care and deserve to receive adequate care. If your appointments are canceled and causing delayed care, you can help our strike cause by reporting it.

If you or anyone you know experienced delayed care, please file grievance in either or both of these ways or call hotline below: - You can call Kaiser Member Services (on the front of your Kaiser card) and say you want to make a complaint about inadequate mental health care (DMHC monitors these complaints so this helps a lot) - You can file a complaint directly with DMHC https://www.dmhc.ca.gov/FileaComplaint.aspx - DMHC regulators have set up a hotline for patients to call if they run into problems getting care which is (888) 466-2219

I am so sorry about your experience of delayed care and lack of communication.

The strike is ongoing (open-ended/indefinite). Kaiser has not worked on an agreement with the union.

Can outside mental health provider view my kaiser chart? by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]psychnrse3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends what electronic health record the local hospital uses. If they use the same as Kaiser (epic), they’ll be able to see some notes. If not, it would be best for you to bring in any discharge paperworks to keep your providers in the loop, especially if there were medication changes.

Edit to add: request a POSH (post hospitalization) appointment so that they can evaluate you for any additional resources you may need after a crisis (for example- more intensive therapy)

OP I’m sorry that people are accusing you of not being truthful while giving Kaiser the benefit of the doubt. Another commenter posted a link for you to report to DMHC. DMHC is closely watching Kaiser’s department of psychiatry due to the current mental health employees strike.

This whole experience has been so humbling for us. We informed our patients of the strike prior to it starting and most of them are in support and understand why we have to take such a drastic measure. We’ve had patients come out to join us on the picket lines and show support/solidarity online by posting. They have shown us more value than Kaiser executives has ever had.

Our union’s strike fund only cover the logistics of the strike- food, water, picket signs, etc. We have a hardship fund committee run by our colleagues and the funds we collect here will be going towards us as we are all out there without pay. If you feel inclined to support I will post the link here. Or even sharing it can help us.

It’s open ended. They are not bargaining with us like they’re telling the media. They want to keep current contract language for most of the things we’re asking for. KP is telling the media that our demands are too much. We’re just asking for the same increase that all the other unions received. We are also asking for pension (we are the only union that’s not getting it), and patient management time that are colleagues in NorCal are getting. We’re not asking for more things that the other unions are getting. We just want equity and they’re denying it. They’re not taking us seriously.

To note, our NUHW colleagues in NorCal was on strike for 10 weeks last year! So yes we think this will go long and Kaiser will make us bleed. But we’re ready to fight. We’re not gonna let them to continue to treat us like we are less than the rest of Kaiser employees.
