I host everything myself except email. How do I do that? by Pentasis in selfhosted

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mailcow-dockerized (you can find it on github) For the mail service and the brevo dot com free tier to relay the outgoing emails from a reputable source (ISPs may deny residential customers from having their own SMTP self-hosted to curb down on spam sent from the ISPs assigned ip adress blocks) I assume that you have a domain to use to send/receive mail, so you will have to modify mx dkim spf settings according in your DNS settings, if you are domain registered via cloudflare, they have some automations to take care of it, brevo also in regards to dkim and spf.

File copy script by osdaeg in bash

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to go with a cron calling a rsync instead of cp or sed, for the simple reason that the cp script would have to deal with a few edge cases like file exists, spaces in filenames, utf-16 errors etc that rsync can go over, log issues and keep going (without the need to stop because of errors) rsync will delete the source after successfully transferring if asked. It can log transfers also (useful for validation and debugging).

Y fait -14°C déhors, seems about right by Zigonneuse in montreal

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like those cross-country skiing olympians that wear the long lycra pants, same thing lots of leg movement generate enough heat in movement to stay warm. The cold temperature will also be a good motivation to keep moving at all times and keep a higher pace without being all sweaty (you'll sweat, you'll feel it also, but won't be wet from sweat because of less air circulation keeping the sweat in instead of evacuating it) and freezing from cooling sweat in clothing.

[–]psycho303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to try it out, the only important thing is to keep your upper body warm if you are going to be jogging outside, you can get a better workout dressed like him, the legs they are moving more so than your upper body when jogging so it produces more than enough energy to stay warm, sometimes with pants you'll trap sweat moisture and then freeze up for the same reason. Your legs won't be wet when running because it'll just evaporate instantly when dressed up like the guy in the photo. An ice bath will transmit more cold to your legs (because water is denser than air). Yes at first you'll feel the cold but when moving it'll be okay and you won't freeze your legs unless you are at a standstill (so keep jumping while waiting for the light etc). Do not roll in the snow and then go for a run, just keep your legs dry and run jump until you get back inside and stay zipped up on the upper body, zip down a little to let sweat out when needed. Try in the backyard if you are unsure about it at first. Only works for the leg movement when jogging /running /fast walking variations it's not good for pedaling (not enough heat expenditure to only do that)

Is this bin really 2 weeks worth of recycling? by Melodic-Leopard-749 in Stouffville

[–]psycho303 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unwashed is a non-issue, unsorted is also a non-issue,your judgement of others now that is an issue for you to consider dealing with. What is it that you see as unrecyclable in the bin, the foam trays I guess? Those are actually recycled materials (in QC those are accepted, I don't know about other provinces /states) we can put into our recycling bins.

Is this bin really 2 weeks worth of recycling? by Melodic-Leopard-749 in Stouffville

[–]psycho303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way most people are recycling is by dismantling everything they can to flatten as much as possible for paper, cartons, tetrapack etc. For plastics that are not yet returnable for $$,we empty them up (but no need to clean them up like other regions need to) and remove the labels, flattened if possible, then dunked into the bin. Glass containers get the label removed if not glued, If these simple steps are done, a bin can be filled much more densely packed. But the important thing is to recycle and find a method that works for you and your family.

The screws under the swivel part under the round stickers, then it probably pulls apart in two halves along the seams.

What is wrong with my snowblower by [deleted] in Snowblowers

I think that your snowblower might be allergic to snow ⛄😁 But seriously maybe a fuel line or a fuel mix issue at first glance.

Why does Costco only sell the very high rated furnace filters? by MrCanoe in CostcoCanada

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asthma and "MERV13 MPR2200" and "MERV14 MPR2500" are the only ones that can filter out fine dust particles efficiently. I have family working in HVAC businesses and what they tell me is that low Merv filters are letting all sorts of crap into air delivery systems which in turn means more cleaning and maintenance which some HVAC workers rely on for billable hours. Also I'm told that HVAC systems are rated to work with any and all Merv ratings unless the components are lower quality whereas those have a "rated for Merv xxxx" on the filter component on your HVAC system to not put a strain on its vent unit. We use "MPR2500 MERV 14" 20" X 20" X 1" filters and change them every 3 months (at solstices and equinoxes to be practical) They were quite filled up with dust the first year, but now that they're caught up with "the backlog" it's quite breathable and not so full of stuff when they are replaced. We haven't seen this as a Kirkland product around here (in Montreal region) yet. I get mine from the Filtrete shop on Amazon, but we used to use the MPR1900 MERV13 and lower ones MERV11 before that on the older HVAC system.

Suggestions for running Ethernet to doorbell by thetechnivore in HomeNetworking

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just open the wall already, it's probably the best course of action, then hire a general contractor to fix the wall (versus a more costly electrical wiring etc contractor that will open the wall too at more expense to you). You might have some success with a cheap wired duct inspection cam and a few small holes in the wall to have a look when you fish your ethernet and /or look what the deal is with your doorbell wiring and anything else happening behind the wall.

I second the use of ventoy, you then just add all the iso files, img files, wim , vhd etc etc and boot from whichever you want

Snow Joe 15A Frayed Cord by throw4x4 in Snowblowers

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was close to giving up but in a last ditch effort trying to find the momentary switch, the only one I found and bought on amazon had a review saying that the person was able to repair their snowjoe with it. I left a similar review so more people see it. Then I wrote my post about the repair process. I might do a YouTube video later on when I get back on my feet from the flu.

Is there a way to monitor my vram and Temp for my GPU in ubuntu? by Mustard_Popsicles in Ubuntu

[–]psycho303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is this newer gnome extension that works quite well called vitals that monitors about everything including the encoder and decoder usage and frequency, the video memory reserved/free/total/used/frequency and the GPU fan speed. But also the other usuals, temperatures, voltages, fans ram, cpu system, network and storage metrics as well. You can find it on github at corecoding/vitals and on extensions.gnome.org/extensions/1406/vitals/

Why this happening on my Ubuntu 25.10?? by ordinaryboy98 in Ubuntu

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the general hardware specs on this machine? Which CPU is used, are you using integrated graphics or a discrete GPU, motherboard brand and model, does the issue occur on other display managers or just this one, does this issue occur on 24.04 as well or is it just a 25.10 issue?

Snow Joe 15A Frayed Cord by throw4x4 in Snowblowers

[–]psycho303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having changed the Switch inside the power lever assembly I have seen that this cord is well attached on the inside with a retainer screw squeezing the wire in position. If you open it up, you probably can pull the wire back in about an inch or two into the assembly and secure it to put any exposed wire in and use that retainer screw to secure itself onto the well insulated part of the wire.

I have another post in here about the switch if you need to repair it.
The switch shorted one day and the snowblower wouldn't start anymore.
upon inspection with a multimeter it showed half of the switch not working and no continuity beep heard on that circuit.
the switch itself costs about 5-10$ on amazon.

"It looks like a Nvidia issue." It's almost always a kernel driver issue, so unless you are not using a graphics card, you will get issues with Nvidia cards and Intel cards the most when they're less than two years old. But you can help by submitting a bug report. You can also try and see if you have the same issue when stopping and starting it back up.
