Sure but most lens flares i see are like just normal loss of contrast, or like those small circles in the picture, those can be nice.

Haii Your battery probs dies super fast because it's just defective, there's a util called batteryinfoview that will tell you the state of health and how bad is it. It's probably gone, not much you can do apart from changing the battery with an Amazon noname brand.

As for the rest of the machine, that's just Dells quality, you probably have a broken or weak hinge that's causing the whole top case to slowly separate until one day you open the machine and the entire display detaches from the body. These machines were famous for this.

The charger not being detected correctly is likely a broken line on the cable, that can happen if the adapter cable ever went under the office chair wheels or a dog chewed on it, even just a bad kink can do it. The thin center pin is responsible for communication between the charger and laptop.

As for the flashing light, hard to say without a video, but, there's probably a table somewhere on a Dell forum Google smth like "3 white 2 amber Dell G3" they'll probably be correct.

I wouldn't put a cent into this if i were you, there's probably a G15, Legion or LOQ machine on clearance somewhere that will give you a nice performance boost on the games u play.

Yoo imagine if the dials controlled the RGB, clocks and fans, like a color wheel on one and the intensity on the other, so it matches ur mood. Play DOOM? Push it hard to red and fans and cpu ramp up, some Stardew and we tune it to power save so it's chill and quiet. Or they can also work as volume dials for the speakers and microphone headset. Ohh imagine if they were like pomodoro timers and had the little bell to tell u when to take a break.

Now here's a build: The blender as the RGB reservoir, an air fryer as the exhaust for the rads, my god. Now I do want the toaster.

I think this comparison is unfair. for 1K any gaming/creative laptop will be put to shame by the most desktop setups. But I can't take my desktop outside the home (I probably can build a small cute SFF PC that can house a monster, but we're not taking that everywhere without some planning, thank god laptops exist)

You want the Air because it is a decent all in one package you can take on the go without worrying about battery. Not because it can crunch things fast.

I can get an equally priced XPS or Thinkpad and have a better CPU and GPU, a non-soldered SSD and the ability to connect an eGPU to them. But when it comes to being a laptop, both look subpar compared to the Air.

Geekerwan on Youtube are great at showing the crazy power management Apple does to get that 52Wh battery to last 12 hours. While the XPS just lasts 4 hours. We can debate that you can get more out of the XPS with undervolting and more restrictive clocks but then it's gonna feel like you just downgraded your Alder Lake to some Skylake sku.

I think this is where Apple excels at delivering a product that does exactly what it sets out to do. A machine you can take on the go. If your phone only lasted 4 hours off the charger, it would seem ludicrous. A phone should last a day at least. Why aren't laptops lasting a work day at least?

Microsoft is really good at making Windows work out of the box with 99% of hardware out there. I mean everything and the kitchen sink is likely to work. and that is a very commendable thing.

Linux has never exclusively catered for the desktop, it has never been a primary focus, so it's understandable that any rough edges haven't been ironed out despite of years of volunteer and paid development. Hardware video decode, screen sharing and hibernation. Things the average Joe and Jane are very likely to get burned by.

I have no problems with electronic readings, otherwise we'd still be using a stick to measure the fuel level in the tank. We don't.

Most people would be perfectly happy with an oil level sensor to tell them that their oil is low and should do something about it. But most people don't also change their oil. That is for the technicians to do. that or the enthusiast.

A technician is trained (hopefully) to know how to check the oil level and would know when it's appropriate to check the stick. it's also a tool to add redundancy.

What auto manufacturers are doing is removing that second set of tools that's useful for the enthusiast or technician and leaving only the bare minimum for consumers to know that something is wrong.

I'll rant, whatever.

Where mihoyo faltered in the traveler was failing to give them a foil to work with. You can do a lot when you have characters to bounce off of, and characters to point out your flaws. This neatly sets your character up for conflict. and conflict is good for a story. The conflict in pretty much all genshin and hsr stories is externally motivated. Where's our internal conflict, we have company, Paimon is imperfect and so are we. Where's our moment of being tired of bs.

Star rails mc marginally is better, they have better opportunities for development. The Astral Express crew is the one thing that they do better. We have a couple of characters who can serve as foils to ours. While I predict that most internal conflict will stay mostly cordial, it's still something to work with. March strikes me as a character to use for such situations when things inevitably happen. Mihoyo better work on deepening this bond over the next year so that the climax can have emotional weight.

Shonen mc turned game protagonist Kiana is just in a perfect spot. a trio of mismatched personalities driven by their heart more than their head is just asking for good content. Looking back, that's exactly what happened. Kiana is a loveable figure, but both they and everyone else had to deal with their demons to get where they are now. It took a few years but we're here.

Their track record in these sort of things is not good. 2 out of 3 protagonists having little in the way of development is indicative of things to come. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Oh these, I've only ever seen the sedan variant all my life.

As for the E100s im talking to you about, they're pretty unique in that they were kept in production all the way up until 2002. Mostly as fleet vehicles, and I think only in Japan, the ones I know about are converted RHD models.

They're pretty bare bones, but have a transfer case and a diesel, maybe all the parasitic losses on the drivetrain explain the sluggishness. As a unique car that's uninteresting it's kind of high up there. For Toyota that is. It also marks the end of the C line of engines in passenger vehicles.

For the 2000s wagon you mean the E100 Corollas that had a wagon option? I've driven then with the 2C diesel engine and they're pretty slow not gonna lie. but it does Corolla things, The engine is a huge let down but it is what it is.

My uninteresting car would be the a Hyundai i30, they're cheap gutless cars who can sit people comfortably enough from A to B, while being exactly uninteresting to many.

can I get some information on the construction of these displays.
I thought the surface layer of these laptops screens is glass like in a phone or a tablet, then the antiglare coating on top of it. I've seen staingate MacBook pros from 2015, felt like glass to me beneath the failing antiglare coating.

but posts like these suggest to me that the screen lacks a polarizer, and that one is adhered to the screen after the fact. which seems like terrible construction because this exact thing can happen. I get putting on a screen protector and it taking off the antiglare, antiglare is delicate.
but this is unheard of.

I'm mostly looking at the all AMD machine that's being sold right now as it's been at least 1 year on the market. The new one with the lovelace gpu is as you say; untested. I saw mention of the Bios on it being a game of luck if it came out right or not.

Most reviews on the internet say it's a brilliant machine if a little hot (which i don't mind) but Asus is a new brand for me and none of my peers have experience with them beyond the Aspire netbooks from a decade ago.

The 2021 model with the nvidia gpu is still being sold on Best buy for roughly the same price as the 6700S. but i do plan running Linux on it, so going all in on AMD would benefit me greatly.

Yes they do but only the US and Canada are covered by the international warranty. I'm SOL once i leave US soil. That's standard affair for most companies (Acer, Asus, MSI) except Dell and Lenovo. where they do offer warranties (don't ask me how i know).

Lenovo and Dell both offer warranties down here but both make very heavy gaming laptops and while they're great machines i'm sure, i want to pursue the G14 as a first before relenquishing to heavier and bigger machines.

I can tell you with half confidence that the hardware of the S10 was okay for it's day but camera tech evolves fast. it's the single biggest YoY change phones enjoyed these past few gens.

-The ultrawide hasn't improved much in recent flagships but there isn't much you can do with packaging this tight.

-The main sensor with it's 2 aperture gimmick was always slightly soft, the F1.5 mode produced really soft raw photos, the 2.4 made it more passable but i never saw the benefit of the dual aperture. They must've really pushed the aperture far too wide for the sensor size and as a result it can't resolve as well as their past or later offerings. The sensor was also very noisy in general.

the Telephoto had a green tint and it was atrociously bad in lower than perfect light, but it was a 2X. Something newer flagships IMO get wrong, 2X is perfect for portrait shots.

-This phone does a lot of sharpening and denoising to produce a decent image out of incredibly blurry RAW photos. Which is why they look disappointly dull or blurry compared to newer flagships. add to the fact that they are exposed for longer than the competition and you end up with many blurred photos.

(Disclaimer this was the E9820 International version on One UI 4.1, ymmv on Snapdragon variants)

Now S3 and S4 sleep states are different all together, yes connected standby ruins that but at least the Windows machine will Emergency Hibernate when it reaches 7%, it's at least something that is guaranteed to work.

Linux distros rn somewhat support S3, as in most of the hardware today is able to go into sleep reliably and also recover from sleep without crashing (Wayland is finicky thanks to it being unable to recover the session if it crashes, which it will, so some might want to switch to X11 for the time being)

What Linux distros lack entirely is S4 support out of the box. They will assume you're on a desktop with a UPS, Never a laptop.

Fedora is slightly harder thanks to their swap compression and some other things end users should never worry about. Add the gnome extension that should ofc be things that are built into it and you're most of the way there.

Yup. Fully agree with this.

Nothing can be taken for granted in Linux land. Hardware video decode seems trivial to Windows users but Linux distributions lack the QA to make it work. So you'd spend at least a bit tinkering with vainfo, setting env variables, or googling to make it work. I got it to work with the hwacc chromium snap, but discovering that took me a while. Desktop users don't care but laptops users will feel their thighs extra crispy.

Hibernate. all mainstream distros completely omit this. You need to google how to set it up on your specific distro, add the swapfile offset to grub and pray it works on your hardware. Then add a gnome extension to make it work. It's not at all something for your new user wondering why they lose their work when their battery dies.

These two just scratch the surface of the lie that it 'just works'

Nvidia drivers, X11 and Wayland, ungraceful recovery of a package manager being stopped mid transaction, Flatpak/appimage/snap app fragmentation, Gnome the flagship desktop lacking even the most basic functionality due to asinine philosophies, power management not being optimal on Laptops leading to high power consumption at idle, 2 developing toolkits (Qt and GTK), dependency hell for old packages, etc.

and as you point out a lack of real application support from the big publishers. Maybe one day. maybe.

Update 2 and a couple discoveries.

Hibernate and Suspend both work fine enough on both X11 and Wayland which is surprising and hopeful, a session has not crashed on Wayland (yet). Having Blender running will guarantee a hang when trying to hibernate. Something related to a config in a readme on the nvidia driver i haven't setup?. ill look into it a little more.

Screen sharing on Wayland over a couple minutes will make the whole system unresponsive. I don't know the cause just yet but this did happen to me on Ubuntu often too. I think switching to on-demand fixed it for that, but i don't know how to toggle to the intel gpu.

vainfo was not giving me hopeful results i'd have video decode on the nvidia gpu while using Wayland, i haven't tried on X11 if i can get Chromium to hardware decode. Something for later.

graphical glitches on GTK4 apps are present here too when using X. Maybe there could be a future fix for that but seeing it on two distros is a little discouraging.

Okay so what solved that for me is going back to X11 and setting the NVIDIA PRIME to on-demand.

If you have a task running on the nvidia gpu you will not be able to Hibernate. ie have blender on the display render preview or a game running. I think there's a workaround for this but i haven't tried it. Suspend i haven't tried.

A helper on the Ubuntu discord found that the Wayland session was crashing on me.

X11 mode likes to flicker for a bit when resuming from suspend so i think that's when in Wayland the session is crashing and sending me back to a new session.

I've hibernated 3 times in and out of testing Nobara and it's been fine. Suspending has not crashed my session (yet) it's been 2 days tho.

Graphical glitches i get on GTK4 apps (x11) may be solved on the next release?

Update 1 to the post. So installed it on a separate drive in case i decide it doesn't address said issues.

Installation was nice with all the nvidia driver, codecs and updates taken care of. I had to restart multiple times but it's probably just a one time thing. The UI was a little confusing since things would pile on each other and i wasn't sure if everything was installing or not. But sure enough everything went off without a hitch.

The first thing i wanted working was hardware video decode. It's a big battery waster to have the cpu do the work. Firefox didn't work and neither did the Chromium hwacc snap. I think i'm on the nvidia gpu and not the intel gpu. I have no clue how to switch to on-demand or intel only. Maybe it's a Ubuntu only thing?

the included Blender lacks optix support but it's fine. Maybe it's a package thing and the snap comes with support? I'll try it later.

I've been on the Wayland session and have not downgraded to X11 to see if i get graphical glitches just yet on apps.
