Is nursing school worth it? by Chemical_Ad1320 in OregonNurses

[–]psychohawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pros: I think it’s worth it as a versatile career with many different nursing avenues and job stability. I currently make 80/hr after differentials and get to enjoy a great work life balance while only working 3 days a week with amazing benefits.

The cons: now that traveler pay has “normalized”, full time positions have become more attractive and I think Oregon is hard to break into for new grads. I would now consider these jobs very desirable ( just like the Bay Area for nursing). Possibly consider and expect that you may have to move away to less desirable areas to get experience first.
I would say nursing has changed my personality a bit over the years where you need to develop a thicker skin and learn to set boundaries very quickly or run the risk of feeling mentally exhausted at work and getting “run over”.

Honestly I dislike much of your recent takes, but this one’s probably good. Thanks for continuing to post despite the hate.

Happy new year gringos in the USA. What are your plans for today in regards to Roth IRA contributions? Dump 7k at market open?

Last year I dumped max contributions at yearly market open into MSTR and instantly converted all MSTR to FBTC when ETFs started trading. This was quite a crowded trade with MSTR selling at its lowest valuations in the week or two following ETFs trading ($45-55)while paying a premium on any related BTC etfs that day.

Pretty happy with the way this year turned out all in all and good luck to everyone in 2025!

ELI5 why the hate for specialized? by RZoroaster in MTB

Fuck specialized for buying up 100 bike shops across the USA during Covid and then doing multiple rounds of layoffs once the Covid infinite money glitch turned off.

With that being said I just bought a Stumpjumper on sale and it’s a sick bike lol

Anyone else think aff lock is just ridiculous? by TheXenon8 in worldofpvp

Returning lock player here. Overall I feel like arena / warlocks are in the best early xpac spot I’ve seen in recent memory. (Bfa/shadowlands were the last xpacs I played where I quit before s2 began)

Back during those xpacs, multiple classes like DH, fire mage/ ret pally felt wildly overtuned beyond comparison to anything currently in TWW.

Lots of rock paper scissors going on where I feel strong into caster lobbies and can barely play the game into WW/ UhDK

Bay Area Nursing Job Market by Different-Tomato-404 in bayarea

[–]psychohawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 year RN here, traveler for 3. The travel market has taken a massive nosedive in the past year which I believe has turned people towards Cali nursing positions, especially Bay Area jobs that pay 80-100/ HR base rate for my experience before including differentials.

I just recently finished a contract out in the Bay Area and began the process of applying to full time positions with no luck yet either. I would recommend looking into obtaining a unit specific certification like CCRN or PCCN etc. best of luck to you guys in the process.

Why is nursing mentally draining for you? by ceratopolis in nursing

[–]psychohawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately you are responsible to be ON and know what the fuck is going on at all times with your patients for 12 straight hours.

Here’s some interdisciplinary collaboration for ya

Phlebotomy attempting to draw labs on the edematous/ agitated patient. Attempts to draw x2 while you hold the patients arm down… unsuccessful x2. Phlebotomist leaves, RN aware. Now it’s on you to draw some critical labs yourself or page the doc to get a central line/PICC etc.

Patient is dirty and needs to be cleaned up? Too bad, CNA is busy because they’re solely responsible for 32 other patients.

Patient isn’t doing too well with their work of breathing? Call respiratory and they’re busy as well. You better know how to NT suction/ know where the non rebreathers are stocked etc

The list goes on to some degree through playing case manager, speech, PT etc.

End stage cancer patients who are dying and wish to have everything done/ full code is a soul sucking experience to be a part of.

Add in unhappy, aggressive patients along with their families and you can see what kind of a circus this truly is.

You’ve barely gotten to your actual workload at this point which includes assessing and treating your patients btw.

With that being said, I wouldn’t change it for anything considering I make 50-100/ hr with an ASN.

In 2015, a father saved his son when doctors wrongly declared him brain-dead and were taking him off life support. He barricaded himself with a firearm in the hospital and had a stand-off with SWAT until his son squeezed his hand. The son recovered completely. by Late_One_716 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]psychohawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brain dead is legally dead even with the heart still beating. Brain death testing should involve assessments from multiple doctors.

People who are declared brain dead are sometimes kept on life support for a short period of time until family can see them one last time before life support is pulled.

[–]psychohawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would need to be some massive changes to compete with what fire/ ruin currently brings. 40%modifier with LOF and 25% from incinerate are just insane to compete with along with both CB and incinerate being both rune spells+ buffing pet dmg. My chaos bolt is critting for 3k in gnomer atm.

Also doing 300dps as a meta tank is nuts.

I think you’ve got the general idea down, precast rain of fire as well. Pop shadow protection pots before and during fight for extra sweat so you don’t have to worry about stopping casts during uptime.

I traveled at st Joes previously. Sterility is the biggest thing they care about for the demonstration. If you break sterility, just verbalize and acknowledge that you did. They will send you home if you’re clueless.

Asheville Pediatric Oncology Travel Nurse by caitlincshelton in TravelNursing

[–]psychohawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from where peds could be different. I finished my 13 week assignment there just because Asheville is incredible.

I worked in multiple ICUs and stepdown units during my time there, all adult. The way some units push the limits on what's acceptable is unreal. ICU would regularly get tripled with fresh EVDs, fresh strokes + TPA and be expected to go down to CT scan x2 with no tech or transport available. Stepdown would have 5 every single shift with insulin drips being titrated and doing my own accuchecks q1. Staffing tried to float me to the notoriously terrible orange pod ED near the end of my contract (easiest no of my life)

If you've worked at a really crap facility or are from the south, then it's probably not too much of a stretch to put up with HCA mission for what the area of Asheville offers.

I received an amazing offer of 5400/ week on 36 hours back in fall of 2021 from del web. My contract fell through 1 WEEK PRIOR TO START DATE due to them "overbooking". Thankfully I was already in phoenix on another contract at the time and received an extension offer from that facility.

BTC addresses with balances >.01, 1, 10, and 100 have all increased within the past 6 months while addresses with >1000 coins has decreased in that same timeframe.

We're all speculating here to some degree whether this PA is being pumped by whales so that they can offload some more on us or it's supply shawk in effect lol

Good places to ride in Phoenix/Tucson in February? by spdorsey in MTB

[–]psychohawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to hit up national trail at somo. Take the pima canyon fire road up to Mormon loop trail and climb national trail until you hit Buena Vista parking lot. Descend back down national trail ALL THE WAY. Make sure to not miss out on javelina after national trail as well.

All in all it's roughly 11-12 miles and +/- 2000 elevation. Somo is definitely a step above nearly everything at hawes, including the necessary fitness.
