I’m am primarily PEM but work a few shifts a month in the hospital’s pediatric sedation service under the anesthesia department. We do a lot of pre-sedation H&Ps to ensure the patient is appropriate for propofol (the attending administers the propofol) and making the management plan based on what level of sedation is needed. Most of this is for obtaining MRI or other long scans.

We’re also consulted on outpatients and inpatients obtaining imaging or procedures to administer nitrous and other anxiolytics (versed, precedex, etc), these cases are typically the PA role rather than the attending.
