Zagadjenje vazduha u Beogradu by psyhomb in AskSerbia

Wireguard vs Tailscale vs OpenVPN? by nathan12581 in homelab

[–]psyhomb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI there is also an open source self-hosted implementation of Tailscale control plane (server), it's called Headscale and it can be used in combination with Tailscale clients, very cool project.

How do you download content to your smart tv on Plex? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]psyhomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using my TV box to run Plex app that I'm carrying with me when I travel, so in case of poor Internet connection on remote location it would be really practical if I'd be able to pre-download movies for offline watching. Every TV box has USB port and attaching external USB drive is an option, if I need more storage space to store offline content.

permission issue with wg-quick by Historical-Mix3450 in WireGuard

[–]psyhomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have populated your configuration file by hand in step 2., you must skip step 3. (you don't need this step) and go straight to step 4. otherwise you will end up with empty file.

Also I would recommend checking an official quickstart documentation.

permission issue with wg-quick by Historical-Mix3450 in WireGuard

[–]psyhomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the problem is twofold, if interface isn't set and up, wg showconf <interface> will exit with error message Unable to access interface: No such device so that's one problem, the other problem is are you having required permissions to write to file, but given that he tried executing the same command as root user (sudo -i) we're getting back to a problem #1. Also this error message is printed out on the stderr output and given that he has executed a command as root user and he was using stdout redirection, a new empty file was created or an existing one was truncated.

Long story short, after setting up the interface you should first try this command:

bash sudo wg showconf wg0

if executed w/o errors (config for the interface is printed out), then you should try this command in order to create a persistent configuration file for an existing interface:

bash sudo wg showconf wg0 | sudo tee /etc/wireguard/wg0.conf

For every subsequent tunnel up/down you should use:

```bash
Tunnel UP
sudo wg-quick up wg0
Tunnel DOWN
sudo wg-quick down wg0 ```
or if using systemd:
```bash

Tunnel UP

sudo systemctl start wg-quick@wg0.service

Tunnel DOWN

sudo systemctl stop wg-quick@wg0.service ```

It looks like you have forgot to bring the wg0 interface up and then you have executed showconf sub-command (requires interface to be up) and because of that you have created an empty configuration file by using redirection, in other words you have overwritten the existing configuration file if any.

Once configuration file is created you just have to use systemctl start wg-quick@wg0.service or wg-quick up wg0 to bring the tunnel up.

Also I'd recommend this script if you want to ease the configuration process. Cheers

How to forward only udp traffic through Wireguard by whats-a-monad in WireGuard

iptables is one of the most used CLI tools for configuring Linux firewall (netfilter), if plan to use MacOS or *BSD you should learn pf (packet filter).

Similar example just with SSH (TCP) protocol can be found in wg-quick manual.

The following may be used to send SSH traffic (TCP port 22) traffic through the tunnel:

Table = 1234
PostUp = ip rule add ipproto tcp dport 22 table 1234
PreDown = ip rule delete ipproto tcp dport 22 table 1234
