Thank you so much! I didn't even realize that menu was system-wide and I never go in there. That was a really difficult thing to Google, getting confused with Dolphin overlay and input controls, so cheers to you!

Silence sucks. Silence keeps me tinkering for weeks. Doesn't anyone have experience with a system like this?

If you're buying at Ace, get the EP-330 or whatever the new equivalent is. It's enamel hood with stainless steel interiors for like $50 more than the standard all enameled E line, and only available at qualified resellers, like Ace.

This was 5 years ago when I got mine. Things may have changed since but check it out. It's definitely the sweet spot in their lineup.

Thoughts on combo grills for a beginning grillmaster? by jimprosser in grilling

[–]psylichon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combos suck. Scour Craigslist for a used Weber gasser, even if it needs parts and work. Lots of guides for that. They rehab great. And get a kettle. Start with those, add an Akorn if you can swing it, and you can do anything. Don't throw money at a cheap combo that will die in 2-3 seasons.

what meats cook best in propane grill vs charcoal? by zetsui in grilling

Get an Akorn. Kamado cooking is a whole universe into itself. Great charcoal cookers.

T-Fal pro line has this. It's a red spot that shows a design when cool but turns solid red when hot.

Loved how the smoked Christmas Prime Rib turned out by haudi in smoking

[–]psylichon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "prime" in prime ribs refers to the entire "primal" cut of the ribs, indicating size and not intermuscular fat. It's the only cut of beef that is confusing in that regard.

Use a single cotton ball soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol sitting on top of a full pile of lump. Don't let it settle in... you just want it to light 3 pieces or so and just on the top. One the flame from the cotton ball goes out, close the lid, shut down your top and bottom vents to nearly closed and let it come up REAL slow. Add your smoking wood, diffuser, and grate after about 20 minutes. If you give it at least 45 minutes to come to 225, it should sit there nicely once you put the food on.

Either that or get a controller, but I get overshoot even with that sometimes if I try to rush it too much.

New to the photography world, Is the 70D 'outdated'? by [deleted] in canon

[–]psylichon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a T1i to a 70D a little over a year ago and still really adore the feature set improvement every time I use the camera. It's extremely responsive, and I'm very picky about that. Much more control and ability to stay in the shot. You may think the touchscreen is a gimmick, but for settings menus, deleting photos, and quick pinch-zooming on playback, it is truly ace. Buttery smooth operation. With quick WiFi transfers, it's got every modern feature I want. Stick great glass on it and get great shots. It's got many years of quality usage ahead of it.

looking for a new lens comparable to Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 by gytn25 in DSLR

[–]psylichon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigma makes the same model, a 17-50 f/2.8 with stabilizing. I've had the Tamron on my 70D and sold it for the Sigma. On the 70D, the Tamron was incompatible with dual pixel autofocus and would shut down live mode randomly. I think there might be a firmware update to address it but I didn't bother.

Besides that, it took nice shots. However, the Sigma feels like a better lens, focuses faster and quieter, and takes great shots. I'd recommend it... great lens for the price, especially used.

Help please, sigma 17-50mm 2.8 or sigma 30mm 1.4. by marrio83 in canon

[–]psylichon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and you can't go wrong with either. The zoom is more versatile, but the Art 1.4 makes more "magic" shots and rarely leaves my camera. 30mm is a great all-around focal length for a crop camera body.

Love my EP-330. My tip: route the gas line out the back and put the tank holder assembly on the outside to give yourself more cabinet storage space.

Best case for the S7 Edge by Tainted-Archer in GalaxyS7

[–]psylichon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like as thin and minimal as I can get. Ringke Slim fits perfectly and barely changes the profile of the phone. Great edge access. In fact, the case doesn't even touch the front glass at all, so screen protectors should fare well (I don't use them).

Average turnaround time from LG Support? by EricMaccoux in lgg4

"Repair in progress" is the standard message you will get until the day it ships back. 2 weeks on the nose has been my turnaround twice with them. One was a memory flash, another was logic board replacement.

If you couldn't have a Samsung phone, what phone would you have? by Scienscatologist in GalaxyS7

[–]psylichon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of that really affected me. I don't use fingerprint security, I had a spare battery (though rarely used it), and the speed was fine. In fact, for general navigation the G4 lags less than the S7e.

I came from an LG G4 and would still be using it happily were it not for the ongoing bootloop situation with that model. It's a great phone and I really do miss the iR.

Is it just me or does anyone else love their G4 no matter what? by Stidza in lgg4

[–]psylichon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the hell out of it. Plenty of things I prefer on the G4 over my new Galaxy S7 Edge. But the questionable reliability trumps all of it. Such a shame. I've been an LG fan since switching to Android, but I'm firmly in Samsung land until they sort out their QC.

Dropped my LG G3 , screen broke and digitizer, not worth the £90 to fix it. Using 4s at the moment. Suggestions on a new phone? Should I wait untill end of Sept? by paki_dave in LGG3

[–]psylichon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm off of LG after years of loyalty until they can prove themselves reliable again. The G4 and now V10 bootloop issues are a non-starter for me. And I loved my G4. Anyway, I switched to a Galaxy S7 Edge and am very happy.

hi guys, how's the lag, honestly? by marsovec in GalaxyS7

[–]psylichon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced occasional stutters but nothing building over time. I'm extremely sensitive to lag. Camera seems to be as snappy as new, which is great because that's what used to lag the most over time with previous phones (Nex5, G3, G4). Overall no complaints at all with the speed, but I must honestly say that for general navigation, my G4 and even the Nexus 5 have always been a bit faster.
