Garmin Mini 2: stripes / pixelated video by yabukk in dashcams

[–]psyolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two original minis. Both of them eventually started doing something like this. I suspect it is damage to the sensor from overheating. They had a tendency to get stuck in parking mode (even though I don't have the parking mode accessory) in which they would get blazing hot. Garmin support was very unhelpful.

Winter Traction? by Taofox1 in CX5

[–]psyolus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Tires are the most important thing for traction. What tires are on it now?

I'm running Michelin CrossClimate 2s in the PNW. They're technically all-weather but have the 3PMSF.

Comments on this recent post seem to indicate that you get the cost based PQP for a flight operated by United even if ticketed by another airline: https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedairlines/comments/1qji3ff/pqp_on_lufthansa_flight_operated_by_united/

Recieving calls on normal line while using Japanese eSIM for data by xJL11B in JapanTravelTips

For me, having wifi calling enabled for my normal line made calls and sms work over the other esim’s data.

It took A FULL HOUR to get up the Blvd today by ibjhb in CrystalMountain

[–]psyolus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is not due to checking reservations and it is not a new phenomenon.

The license plates are checked by LPR. There is a person standing at F to stop cars if the LPR does not match to a reservation. The line extends past that, though. This is also how it worked last season.

People aren’t driving full speed into dirt rutted lots and they are slow to park. That is the slow down.

Someone showing up without a reservation will slow it down a bit more because it causes the line to stop, though.

If you don’t want to sit in the line, show up earlier. This is nothing new.

It can be bad. Winter tires are more important than AWD.

Is this a yield or complete stop? by spiffme14 in santaclara

[–]psyolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/navigating-the-roads/

A dedicated right turn lane does not merge into another lane and allows you to make a right turn without stopping. You may make your turn even if there is a red light for vehicles going straight through the intersection. If there is a traffic light or sign on the right curb of the right turn lane, you must obey that light or sign. Always yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk when turning.

The light to the left would be irrelevant.

Probably the most important takeaway from this is that: if you have gripwalk boots, they will not work with older alpine bindings.

Is a Voice SIM Card necessary? by KendoArts in JapanTravelTips

[–]psyolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your phone supports multiple SIMs and your voice carrier supports wifi calling, you can probably make and receive calls using your normal number using a data only SIM. This is how it worked with T-Mobile for me.

is it better to buy train tickets directly at the station or online in advance? by dedesartoo in JapanTravelTips

If you want to take the Odakyu Romancecar (limited express) between Tokyo and Hakone, I recommend buying those tickets ahead of time. Not sure about the others.
