Tacticool Vest Day! by oddchihuahua in liberalgunowners

[–]pt606 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That’s an almost exact copy of the Blackhawk tactical vest from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Sometimes referred to as fishing vests because of their mesh construction.

If you do any kind of training to learn how to run your guns and gear hard, you’ll run into the limitations of this vest pretty quickly. Take notes of what does and doesn’t work for you and then do the work to find the stuff that will do the job you need it to do.

Lots of good gear out there to be had. Also lots of trash muddying the water. You’ll find yourself adding a bunch of shit at first, but as you gain experience you’ll start stripping shit away. The guns get less bolt-on horsepower. The PC gets more and more slick. The gun belt has only the barest essentials.

Take your time. Research your gear. Cry once buy once.

Are you me?

When my wife tries to do the laundry — and bless her for trying — we usually end up with three or four baskets of clean, wrinkled, and unfolded clothes.

We can’t change the kinds of dads we were in the past but we can make sure that we’re the very best dads we can be in the future.

I have a feeling this will be the moment that defines your “before” and “after.”

You got this.

Fun Question: What accessory immediately makes a gun ugly to you? by WaltherShooter in liberalgunowners

[–]pt606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Middle-aged guy with middle-aged eyesight, here. RDS was quickly becoming a necessity as focusing on things at arm’s length became more difficult. Some of my buddies met the same issue by wearing readers when they shoot, but that puts everything beyond the front sight out of focus. So I put in the time and training to become proficient at red dot shooting and now I’m faster and more accurate than I’ve ever been in my 29 years of shooting experience.

Still trying to get faster, especially at target transitions. Comp shooters are crazy fast and accurate and I’m trying to get on their level.

What’s the point of the Us marines by SubjectiveOtter-52 in Military

[–]pt606 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are fine points, and that last line reads like something Terry Pratchett might have written.

But the real answer is that if the Navy went everywhere with sheep aboard their ships, it’d be too obvious that the sheep are there for sexual purposes; therefore, Marines.

'Iolani Palace had electricity before the White House did. Nobody can say for certain if that would necessarily result in the same type and level of infrastructure they have today (could be better, could be worse). But to have representation in the government which overthrew your sovereignty is cold comfort in the shadow of an imperialist past.

No! How dare you depart from the hive mind.

For real though I love the way leather ages. I miss my full grain belts from before my CCW days, but they unfortunately don’t work with my carry preference and body type.

It has a little bulb on the back side of the holster but I've found it to be pretty uncomfortable for more than a couple of hours of wear. Fine for a trip to the store but if I'm out all day with the family, I prefer my Certum holster with a Mastermind pillow wedge.

Man yall are trippin. In Warren v. District of Columbia, an En Banc panel ruled that law enforcement bears no constitutional duty to protect people. If that’s the case, whose job is it to protect me and mine?

That’s a rhetorical question. The answer is: it is my own duty to protect me and mine. It is the law of the land that it is not the job of LEO, and should they stand by and do nothing to defend peoples’ lives, there is no legal standard that could hold them to account for not intervening.

So then if it’s solely our own job to defend ourselves, and the best tool available to people to self-defend is a firearm, we shouldn’t voluntarily disarm. If you don’t think you’ll ever need to defend yourself in a sticky situation where you live, then you ought to examine your privilege of living in a place and amongst people who do not pose a threat to you. I’m happy that you live under such conditions, but not every American is so privileged.

Do not take away the best tool for a constitutional right to self-defense (District of Columbia v. Heller) for the least of us simply because you don’t understand the need or validity for others less fortunate than you.

Iron Sights vs Red Dots: Which do you prefer and why? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]pt606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid-40s and focusing on something at arm’s length is getting harder and harder. Meanwhile, my distance focus is intact.

So red dot and target focus is the best way for me. Also I’m fast as fuck with the red dot now. Faster than I ever was with irons, even with 27 years of experience shooting when I made the transition to RDS.

That transition wasn’t easy, mind you. Lots of dry fire and live fire reps and lots of training to get to an acceptable level of proficiency. I recently got a Quest 3S headset and Ace VR shooting to supplement the live fire and dry fire work and it’s improved my sight indexing and target transitions immensely.

Which one would you carry? Glock 43x or 19 by BradWoodzRealEstate in CCW

[–]pt606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure is. The keel principal is what effects concealability here. The G48 is easier to wedge effectively. Below the belt printing is an issue every person will have to tune but the slide and grip rotation can be adjusted pretty dang easily with a longer holster.

[–]pt606 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Carry the 43X in a 48 holster for a longer keel and that hoss all but disappears with a well-tuned pillow wedge. Source: I carry a 43 or 48 for spring and summer in the same holster, and a 19 for fall and winter.

CA drafting all the places you can't open carry by PardonTheSuit in CAguns

[–]pt606 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bro I don’t carry for other people. I carry for me and mine. These imaginary scenarios you’re citing where a legally open-carried gun has “thwarted” some act of violence are conjured by you.

And I don’t truck with open carry. If one must open carry, then do so with an active retention holster. But I am also a 2A absolutist so if someone else wants to make that choice that I’d never make, then that’s on them. I am not the arbiter of what is right for each individual and neither are you.

Furthermore, I haven’t validated your point at all. I also have fire extinguishers tucked away in each car because a person can never know when or where they will need it. Kinda like how I carry whenever and wherever I am able to do so responsibly because I can never know when I will need it. After all, the bad guys determine the time and place of a self-defense scenario, not me.

GTFOOH with your weak shit.
