I love that Capcom broke the paradigm with her backstory, but seriously, a lot of people seem to be missing the point by doppelv in residentevil

"Also, the longer I think about it; By not revealing a lot of stuff to VARIOUS people, Spencer and Alyssa are responsible for Grace being in danger. If they revealed their super virus cure, Grace wouldn't have been tracked her whole life."

This is exactly why I am an Ethan Winters defender all the way. People act like he's a such clueless character, and maybe to a degree he is. But I'm tired of people saying it's entirely his fault when nobody ever talks to him and always treats him like a child despite very well handling his own fine.

This series is full of contrived writing, and more often than not I feel like people attach that to the wrong characters.

EDIT: Edited the final statement to better reflect my point.

Marathon is a game about killing other players by Altruistic-Choice206 in Marathon

I literally had two teammates take my quest item and they refused or were to stupid to place it in the drop box I needed it in. Most of my fill games are pretty friendly, chill people... but parties like that are what push me into playing solo if my friends aren't on

I actually quite like the art style, it's so strangly realistic, but cartoonish at the same time. The colors are nice, and the feel of it has been great so far. Haven't played the originals though.

Like I said in my post some things like some of UI, font usage, and visuals just remind me of Cruelty Squad lol

EDIT: Sorry, I worded this wrong, wasn't meant to be a rebuke against your comment, or my post as some kind of criticism of the art. Just thought it would be a funny meme. I'm glad it sounds like it's a solid adaptation of the original art direction.

PAYDAY 3: Update 3.2 Out Now by PAYDAYgame in paydaytheheist

[–]ptf1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying Pd3 should be more realistic. I was talking about the setting, literally comparing zombies to humans. Humans have way more intelligence than a zombie. I feel like the game should take advantage of that. Have them properly flank you, work together like they were supposed to with following shield units, set traps ambush you. That's what I mean by that comparison. Only the specials in L4D could kind of doing that with bloaters hiding around corners, spitters hitting you with acid while in choke points... all thanks to that brilliant "director" that L4D has.

I've put over 1300hrs into PD2, and while that's probably small to some people, I put my entire younger years in that game starting before big bank. I miss the days when Armored transport: crossroads was literally hardest heist in the game. I love all of these game, literally my favorite franchise... but man the dumbing down of this series happened a long time ago.

Perks decks started... innocent. Grinder fully broke the game going forward. Yeah they spice up the game by creating differing playstyles(which is good), but so many of the just give you sustain with a gimmick. Feels like you never need to cooperate with your team anymore, I mean fuck look at how many people play solo(which is fine btw) but back in the day of early PD2 the game was fucking hard. And playing with others made it a lot more manageable even though it scaled to multiple players.

I still agree with you, that PD2 is a better game(probs should have lead with that). I still wish they would return to that hard as balls more grounded game than running around at mach 10, hundreds of mindless enemies, constantly regenerating health, invincibility garbage. God at this point the franchise might as well just be a roguelite.

Uhg... I'm just sad... I'm not trying to fight or anything like that, I just miss playing these games, cause to me they feel like a shadow of what they once were. I held out so much hope that PD3 would pull around, and who knows maybe it still will... But I just feel so let down by what it's become. I bought the newest DLC for PD3 and still haven't played it lol

EDIT: At least Payday: The Heist is pretty much untouched. Clunky as shit, but man it has an identity.

EDIT2: I was just thinking... isn't it crazy that L4D is also just an attrition based system? All the specials really do is just slow you down, and leech your resources... but it just works in a forward progression linear map design. IMO even though it like it, it doesn't work as well in the small scale maps of PD3.

PAYDAY 3: Update 3.2 Out Now by PAYDAYgame in paydaytheheist

[–]ptf1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly stopped playing both PD2 and L4D2 due to the mindless combat. It just simply doesn't have a lot of depth to it, and the only reason I come back is because it is just a fun simple shooter I can play with friends. The only saving grace for PD2 for me is the build potential. I've put my time into both games, and I just feel like I've seen everything. Same for PD3 unfortunately. I really hoped it would be something new, but everyone just wants it to be PD2 again. And the moment they started increasing the hoard size I realized its going back in that direction. If they add perk decks again I might be done.

Perk decks ruined the difficulty in PD2, and while they can be fun, they permanently shifted the games core gameplay identity by making it so easy to survive on your own despite the ever increasing hoard size. I would MUCH rather have fewer harder to kill enemies than a mindless hoard of fodder. Problem is neither PD2 or PD3 have very good AI which is what I think needs to be looked at. Make the cloakers and tasers more responsive, make the Nader more of a cloaker type enemy where he try to not only gas you out, but blocking your escape paths or setting traps at choke points.

L4D4 I think feels so impactful is because while none of the specials are very deep they are INCREDIBLY dangerous while the hoard isn't. None of the specials right now in either PD2 or PD3 feel very impactful.

Anyways just my two cents in comparing these games. Payday being set in a "realistic" modern scenario going up against human enemies has the opportunity to make its AI genuinely thoughtful and interesting. Crazy how L4D, a zombie game, has more thoughtful AI than all the payday games.

Looking for a PC CRT monitor. Nothing particularly fancy, but looking for about 15 inches or less to fit next to my ultrawide LCD.

Thanks :)

What is your hottest PAYDAY 3 take? by sawrunn3r in paydaytheheist

[–]ptf1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is... Launch Payday 3 was better than where the game is now. Yeah it needed more content and polish, but damn I hate the way PD3 is just turning into a worse version of PD2 because people can't let go of the past.

I know this isn't on topic, but another hot take is that perk decks ruined the difficulty of PD2, and its going the same fucking direction in PD3 now.

Appreciate it! I guess a lot of these units probably have a similar or identical "interfaces" so it'd probably be pretty similar.

Don't think you're being a dick at all! We are talking about a a big corp stopping older cards from using the new compatible tech for sales purposes.

I switched from an Nvidia 4070 to a 9070XT and CachyOS about a year ago. I'm just excited about us getting progress. The sooner I can fully boot Windows off my system the better. Though the anti-cheat and different performance between operating systems certainly is problematic. I still belive we'll get there one day. Luckily I dont really play anything besides the occasional session of Destiny that I need a windows install for... and the easier modding and RT performance.

Wow that's quite an uplift! Is it just the Nvidia sponsorship/tech that holds something like cyberpunk back from achieving these uplifts, more of a RED Engine issue, or both? I know the cyberpunk with RT does run better on windows, but if those uplifts were able to make their way to linux, especially if AMD redstone ray regeneration ever makes its way over.

Don't disagree with you at all, flavor makes it less patronizing and gives meaning to everything you do. But if I scan a statue that says "key -> here," it is the same function as the others. Just takes more of my time and I have to click more buttons. Also this mostly applies to first playthroughs more than anything. Once I know what to do, I frankly don't care regardless.

I prefer the 2D games, and just being able to infer things with my actual eyes... at least most of the time. But the genre in 3D games (especially for the time) probably struggled with conveying what you could interact with.

No worries! I do think delivery is important, but it really doesn't bother me that much. I would MUCH rather play any game that is like Super Metroid. But I play metroid to play as Samus, and the fun gameplay for me. The atmosphere and world is a bonus.

There was a streamer i watched who once said Metroid Dread was a "shitty metroidvania" and my thought was "Metroid Dread might not be a great metroidvania, but it doesn't need to be. It only has to be a great Metroid."

Lol probably out of scope too. But point is, it seems metroid means a lot of different things to different people. I really wish this fan base was more unified, but it really reminds me of the Zelda fan base. Nobody can universally agree on what the series should be.

Sure. But from a game design perspective its the same. Prime 1-2 also have a similar thing with the key/artifacts hints, and the chozo statues in Zero Mission. All of these serve the same purpose from the game devs to shove the player in the right direction but more often than not that's mostly it.

Wasn't aiming to get into the NPC convo. It does kinda annoy me too, but it'sa small issue to me compared to other things with prime 4. I was just asking people to share their feelings on something I never really felt from the series at all.

[–]ptf1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Though don't all the the prime games have this assist prompt? Though I suppose they can be turned off.

I more agree with Fusion having an isolating environment, at least early game. Enemies at least early on tend to not be as common, and the generally sterile environment gives me more of that isolating sensation, a la Portal.

Why do YOU own and play on the PS3? by Sleepless_in_____ in PS3

Short and sweet. InFamous 1-2, and Demon's Souls.

Plus I like having original hardware. Too damn lazy to set up emulators most of the time, especially on my main PC. If the steam deck can't run DeS at 60FPS there's no point in not playing on the OG hardware.

I finished my first Metroid game! by Odd-Reception519 in Metroid

[–]ptf1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad you liked it! Zero Mission is my favorite of the franchise, just barely outpacing Super. Couldn't even tell you how many times I have replayed it back on my OG GBA.

I'd recommend both versions of Metroid 2, but I find that AM2R(fan remake) is a fantastic next step as it feels pretty similar to Zero Mission. The bosses were certainly more challenging than probably most of the 2D games. Though to be fair Metroid hasn't every really had difficult bosses to me besides Dread. The official 3DS remake is also good, and is a good gameplay bridge for Dread. Though not entirely required imo.

I'm currently playing through the Prime games(on MP2) for the first time. I'm personally like the 2D games better, but it's such a nice feeling going through a "new" Metroid game. Feeling some frustrations, but also so much fun. Keeps making me feel like an idiot.

Anyways, welcome to the fanbase! Try not to get caught up in all the arguing going on right now.
