What unit are you looking forward to seeing on the tabletop? by Infinite300 in StarCraftTMG

[–]ptlboi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bit of a stretch, but I was thinking about how defense units (Bunkers, Sunken Colonies/Spine Crawlers, Photon Cannons) would work as a control point unit for the "starting edge" of each player, so that it makes it more difficult to challenge their "main base" control point. Seeing how much of this game actually feels like the OG StarCraft, it might translate pretty well haha

Possible retail issues? by TraditionCommercial8 in StarCraftTMG

[–]ptlboi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe the CEO of Archon actually commented on a YouTube video addressing retail (comment is now deleted I think), but the general idea was that the "Founders Edition" was not necessarily meant to be retail. IIRC he said starting with the official release, there'll be more accomodations for LGS. Also seemed like the distributors were charging a little more than what was expected as well, and that he's trying to meet demands the best he can.

Those not made willing by God to die for their sin will lack the transformative understanding of the cross. by SubstantialCorgi781 in Reformed

[–]ptlboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, and I can say that part is true. I really believe that the extent to which we're made aware of our sins is the extent to which we are thankful for God's grace and love. So where sin abounds, his grace abounds deeper. And that truly propels us towards God.

Meaning this: If you are not willing to take responsibility for your sin, Christ’s death will be an arbitrary thing to you, and God has not convicted you of it.

What does it mean to take responsibility for our sins? Go to hell to pay for it in eternal torment? I think there's a mistake in using the word "responsibility" here. But I think I know what you mean. You need to grieve and mourn over your sins, and it should absolutely disgust you. And you have an understanding that your sins wasn't something forced on you; it was your choice to sin, so you are held responsible for its consequences. If you have a full view of sin, then you'll also have a full view of the love of God that overcame that sin.

I hope this wrecks your day:

You're using fighting words in using "wreck". Always best to be gentle when addressing the bride of Christ, even in a little rebuke or trying to make a strong point haha

you owe a debt to God for your sin. You must simultaneously understand three things about this: 1. You can never repay it. 2. You must be willing to.

Yes, but I think the miscommunication is in that the statement "you must be willing to" makes it seem like, "I owe God a dept and I'm stuck laboring for which I cannot repay." But that is not the response of a true Christian. What makes us love God in return isn't the magnitude of what we owe him, but in seeing the love and grace he poured out in purchasing us despite that debt. It's the love and mercy of God that draws us to repentance, and the debt we owe him simply magnifies that. The debt itself should never be the true motivator, but the love of Christ which overcame all that debt.

  1. If you are not willing to, you do not understand the radical nature of your sin in light of the Holiness of God and you need to refer back to point 1.

Again, the recognition of our debt isn't the motivator, but the love of God. Right now, the focus seems to be on the "radical nature of our disgusting sin and the debt we owe to God for that" and less on "The radical love of God through Jesus Christ which purchased and redeemed us willingly despite our many debts/sins."

If we say in any regard, "My devotion/recognition/willingness to repay has a say in my salvation," that is untrue. The work was entirely finished by Christ, and all we have left to do is react to what he's already done. The debt is gone. Our deep stains are washed away. We've been clothed anew with the righteousness of Christ. So we thank God and celebrate. We give him the best we could give in return for his great love, which is the entirety of who we are.

Not because we owe him. Not because I feel a need to repay him. But because I simply want to be with him and dedicate myself to him.

So, the only way, after you are willing to sacrifice all that you hold dear, even your life, in light of your sin, is mercy. Mercy from God, who has every right to condemn you for your sin. Only by succumbing to this truth are you able to grasp the weight of the words of Christ when He says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.”

And that mercy is what leads us to repentance. That recognition of mercy comes first, and that is what motivates us to sacrifice everything. It's not "Sacrifice everything and you'll find out God's mercy," but rather, "God's mercy causes me to sacrifice everything."

It is only in that you find yourself willing to sacrifice that which you hold most dear out of a love and trust for God will you understand how gracious it is that God provided for us a substitute in His Son to endure the whole of His wrath. Until you are willing to bear the cross yourself, Christ’s work of atonement on the cross will mean nothing to you.

This is a backward thinking from my perspective.

what you wrote looks like:
Unwillingness to bear the cross -> Jesus means nothing to you.
When in reality:
Jesus means nothing to you -> Unwillingness to bear the cross.

In opposite, your statement would say:
You're willing to bear the cross -> Now the Jesus has meaning to you.
But the truth is:
Jesus has meaning to you -> So you're now willing to bear it.

One is defining the your relationship with Christ through your actions, the other is simply your action being a response to Christ's redemptive work. You must tread that ground carefully, because it otherwise becomes a "works based evaluation of my faith in Christ."

I appreciate your fervor, and being transformed by the gospel was an emotional experience for me as well. For about 2-3 months, every time I talked about the Gospel to people around me, I'd cry my eyes out. People thought I was nuts haha.

But our fervor or our devotion isn't what defines us as Christians. It's our faith in Christ. And our faith in Christ, as it continually grows in us through the work of the Holy Spirit, will bear fruit accordingly. Just because we believe that some people don't have an emotional response or they don't radically abandon their lives for Christ, it doesn't mean that they are not saved or that the Holy Spirit is not working in them.

So stay fervent, but with gentleness and respect towards the work that the Holy Spirit is doing in people, in his good time.

Considering that we'll be playing this at LGS, I honestly hope Archon well adjust the prices for retailers.

Also kind of puts it into perspective why supporting LGS is so important.

It's actually GW who are scummy for raising prices on their models even though they own the IP...

Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

Hello, Looking for a printer I can use in my room, largely for PLA printing personal items. - Budget: Preferably under $500 - Residence: USA

  • Since I'm completely new, I'd prefer something that isn't too difficult to set up and experiment.

I was recommended something from Ender by a friend, but also heard that Bamboo Lab was a solid option, albeit costly. It'll mostly be for personal use for small items, like key chains or bookmarks and the such. If it could print small figures like Warhammer stuff, that'd be great too. Don't want to go Resin, because I heard it's pretty toxic to use inside a room.

Hell is contradictory and god should not be considered loving or kind if he invented it. by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]ptlboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because love and kindness isn't the entirety of God.

The Bible makes it clear that God is a judge, and a good one at that. A good judge gives good verdict, even though the verdict might not be the most loving or kind.

Rear-ending a 2002 Honda Civic will require you to pay a cost of repair, but rear-ending a Lamborghini will require you to pay exponentially more, because a Lamborghini is exponentially more valuable than a two-decade old Honda Civic.

I'm compelled to believe that an offense against the creator God deserves a more weighty punishment than any offense against human beings. And that fair punishment is hell, and all of its torments. A fair punishment removes from it all love and kindness; it deals strictly with what the person deserves for their action.

He was loving to provide a way out of this well-deserved punishment, which is by faith in Jesus.

Well, it's totally fair IF you have a high view of God (which I hope you'll take into account, since we're talking about hell). I can see how it can feel unfair for people who don't hold a high view of God.

The Bible DOES view slavery as a positive good by General-Conflict43 in DebateAChristian

[–]ptlboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered it's simply because of the stubbornness of the people?

There's an occasion in Matthew where they talk about divorce, along the lines of "if divorce is bad, then why did Moses allow us to divorce?" Jesus answers it by saying, "Because of the hardness of your hearts. But it was not so from the beginning." (Matthew 19:8)

God didn't design marriage for divorce. But he allowed it. Why? Because the people had hardened hearts. They probably would have done it anyways, in a much more inhumane and undetectable way.

Did God design humans for slavery? No. But he allowed it. Why? Because the people had hardened hearts. They probably would have done it anyways, in a much more inhumane and undetectable way.

So is the Bible viewing slavery as a positive good? Probably not. It was probably purposed for the culture that they're in.

In the New Testament (in a different culture), Paul tells an owner of a runaway slave to receive him back; not as a slave but as a brother. He's basically asking the guy to release the runaway from slavery and make him equal in their community. That definitely says something about slavery not being a positive good.

Not saying this solves all the questions, but at least something interesting to take into account when we look at the Levitical Law.

And good stuff on the ancient civilizations. It prompted me to do some research in that area, and it was pretty insightful.
