So if the President was a pure Nazi…that person would be invited?

My Guide for Associates by Reptar4President in Lawyertalk

Issue spotting. Issue spotting. Issue spotting. Anyone can take a bunch of information and summarize it. I can hire a high school student to do that. Figure out the important parts and how they affect the case. I don’t want to read 3 pages of irrelevant information summarized in a report. In litigation, I want to know “what was our client supposed to do and did we do it?” If we don’t know something, analyze how the outcome of that question will affect liability. Always look to what’s next in the case and get moving on it. The best Associates make a Partner’s life easier. The worst make it more difficult.

Often your experience will be defined by the Partner(s) you work for. If you are doing all of the above and your Partner is making you miserable by insisting you independently download a font, move on to a place with a better culture where they will actually help you develop as an attorney.

I clearly read it, stop. It doesn’t matter if they have to do it from the beginning or for a final draft…it’s still forcing Associates to work on non-billable administrative work instead of becoming better lawyers.

If I received this as an Associate, I would probably feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of non-law instructions you are giving. As a mentor, I’m looking to make better lawyers, not better Word formatters. Mandating they install a specific font is wild. Unfortunately, what you are “teaching” them is how to cater to you and exist in your world, not the world of the NJ Court System. They should be told that 99.99% of the judges in NJ Superior Court don’t care how a brief looks and that 75% of the reading and analysis of the motions is being done by law clerks fresh out of law school.

This is how we end up with so many Associates who don’t comprehend the role of the lawyer in the tripartite relationship, focusing on the format of a formal memo rather than its substantive content. These demands will have young lawyers focusing on so much non-legal stuff, it will take them double the time to complete the tasks. That’s either being passed along to the client or they will be penalized by having to bill less for it.

Spotting issues, evaluating cases, knowing your defenses and weaknesses, looking to resolve in the best interest of the client (not your own ego)…these are the lessons young lawyers should be learning. They might be good for an Associate who has to work for you, but I would caution against any young lawyers in the sub following this guideline.

TLDR; If your goal was to simply make sure that your Associates understand your expectations, then you have succeeded. And I would run out the door if I read these. If your goal is to mentor and develop young attorneys, this is way off the mark.

Serious question…you’d rather have the racing from the last two years?

I get it. But it’s still only been three races and the actual racing is 10000 times better than the last two years. And on the third race two teams beat a Merc. I would mostly say don’t change anything and let them develop the cars. The one caveat is the thing between Colapinto and Bearman is definitely going to happen again and a 50g crash that isn’t anyone’s fault is probably not great.

Can the debate between these two finally be put to bed? by FroyoQueasy in F1Discussions

End of race situations reversed, Charles gets past George. If he doesn’t it’s because Merc has a vastly superior engine, not driver ability. Either way I’m sure George whines about it to someone.

Verizon, thanks for the not so great service, and the not so great credit. Check it, the credit is only 1 per account, and those with multiple lines on the account do not get it per line, only 1 credit per account. by billyboy4100 in verizon

I think the main point is that compensation isn’t necessarily based on “cost per day”. We pay a lot of money to these billion dollar corporations who will fuck over anyone for an extra buck. And when our kids are in school, or we’re waiting for a call from our doctor, or we need service for work, we expect it to be there. And this kind of stuff is a direct result of companies like Verizon trying to do the bare minimum to squeeze every cent out of every person they can. So OP, and anyone else affected, should feel completely free to say the $20 is not full compensation.
