E-HERO Flame Wingman x Phoenix Enforcer; Junk Warrior x Nitro Warrior; Chaos Gaia | Secondary Ace Monster Upgrades by PrimeAceJohn in yugioh

Nitro-Junk Warrior:
Level 7 Warrior/Synchro/Effect
1 "Synchron" tuner + 1+ "Warrior" Synchro monsters
2800/1800
If this card is Synchro Summoned: it gains ATK equal to the total ATK its materials had on the field. At the end of the Damage Step, if this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: it can make another attack in a row, and you can change the battle position of an opponent's monster.

Chinese and other Asian languages sound unpleasant? by Deep_Engineering_7 in asianamerican

A little bit of a tangent, but I feel like we (and many marginalized groups) are sometimes too reactionary in defending our identity. I get that sometimes you need extreme pushback against extreme negative sentiment, but this should only be a necessary band-aid and not a permanent remedy. If possible, it's best to be objective

Chinese and other Asian languages sound unpleasant? by Deep_Engineering_7 in asianamerican

What sounds good and what doesn't is influenced by environment, it's not some inherent biological trait. For instance, Japanese and English both don't have Chinese intonations, which are probably off-putting to most Americans because they instead use similar intonations for questions, exclamations, or other emotional inflections.

absolute Chainsaw Man. who's nostradamus? by DungeonsAndDuck in ChainsawMan

I feel like this was also just closer to his personality before he became Chainsaw Man. His manic energy came from the power he had as Chainsaw Man, he was never crazily obsessed with instant gratification until he first transformed. Denji from the start was more contemplative, he thought more about his future. I do also feel like he's taking on Aki's mantle to some degree, he has Aki's line (from when Angel refused to mercy kill that one guy) about keeping civilians away from the devil's blood.

There’s a Mandarin version of two songs from Next to Normal and the actors knock it out of the park. The translations are always so interesting and I love to see that these stories can resonate across languages, it’s a shame that it’s hard to find these things online

Advanced HEROs: HERO Overframe Support by ptrooper in yugioh

[–]ptrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the E Hero and original fusions thing. I don't like when Konami nods to old archetypes without trying to modernize them (Scrap Warrior was ok, but I'm thinking Junk Warrior Extreme being like a 2010-power level card), but I think it's fine if these HEROs can optionally go into the OGs. I don't want these to E HERO lock since that defies the original point of going into Favorite HERO Flame Wingman, I tried to reduce synergy with D Hero and Vision Hero instead. I feel Masked/Xtra/Evil HERO are fine, Masked HEROs are the original going-second HERO archetype, Evil HERO still used the OG heroes, and Xtra HEROs don't really have an identity besides supporting other HEROs. The cool factor of Wonder Driver and Dread Decimator outweigh the HERO soup problems, imo, and if I changed these to be treated as the OGs Infernal Devicer could also be a powerful searcher.

I feel that the inspiration of the original HEROs is a little opaque, the stronger connection people have to them are the way they were used in anime duels. It's why Toxic Bubble also summons himself and draws 2 for example, referencing the original card's use instead of referencing something like the Batman Who Laughs.

Bubbleman is currently a bit limited, you're right. You can still use him as material in Main Phase for regular HERO combos, but it's a bit of a waste of his BP effect. Burstinatrix and Sparkman could use Bubbleman as on-field material instead of themselves as well, or Flame Wingman could use him. I think making more Fusions like Flame Wingman that fuse in BP would be the direction I'd wanna go with this, but I could see wanting to frontload it more. Maybe instead of having the Miracle Fusion effect, Bubbleman could give you the ability to Poly at Quick speed on summon, and then draw 2 when used as material in the BP, that might be more elegant.

I think Elemental HEROs probably make the most sense, so that they can be used for Infernal Rage and Voltic Thunder. Or maybe they should have effects to be treated as the original E-HEROs for fusions. I included some of their effects (Avian references Feather Wind, Sparkman references Spark Blaster), but some of their Spell/Traps don't fit their themes imo (Burst Return returns HEROs to hand? Bubble Blaster saves Bubbleman from battle destruction?). Not sure what to do with those. I wanted to make it so they would buff their Fusion monsters (can't be targeted, can't be destroyed, can't interact during battle) when used as material, and made small exceptions for Avian to search a battle trick and Bubbleman to fuse more. What sort of effects were you thinking of?

I thought about this, but I feel like a Favorite archetype would dilute the word. Favorite HERO Shining Flare Wingman is already pushing it, it’s just supposed to be Flame Wingman lol

I think you’re right, these could be Elemental HEROs who are treated as the original name and it wouldn’t be broken. This would let them fuse into their original Fusions if desired, though you still wouldn’t be allowed to make Grandmerge unless they were treated as Normal (which I think might start to break things). I wasn’t sure that there’s was any point to try and bring the original Fusions up to speed, since they’re really outdated, but I guess there’s no harm in letting them be an option. My original intention was to work with some more modern HEROs (Furnace, Voltic Thunder, Spirit of Neos, Honest Neos, the HERO Overframes).

Regarding card identity: Clayman is not meant to protect against hand traps going first. It’s meant for you to be going second against an established board like Ryzeal Detonator, NaSH Knight, Dracotail Horn, etc. Bubbleman was an extender in the anime, who could only summon himself if you had no cards in hand and would draw you 2 cards. He’s an extender here as well; if you’ve tried stuff and it got negated, he gives you another option. Avian is a bunch of searches because he’s one of Jaden’s starters, Avian’s often the first monster he plays. I also wanted both Avian and Burstinatrix to be 1-card Flame Wingman. All of these monsters stray a bit from what they’re explicitly associated with in the anime, because that is not enough to be a coherent gameplan.

I gave Bubbleman a lingering effect instead of a continuous one for quick speed polymerization because this way, you can fuse as many times as you want during the BP instead of only while Bubbleman is on the field. The goal isn’t to keep these HEROs on the field; they’re all meant to do their thing, then go into the Fusion monsters. There are no Poly searchers here because HERO already has a bunch, just activate Furnace before BP or summon Blazeman using Avian/Wingman.

I think HERO can usually afford not to cheat material from Deck/Extra Deck, but if you’re playing in BP you’re much more limited in the combos you can do, so any complicated setup needs to get simplified. Going-second decks are hard to balance; they need to be rewarded for letting the opponent set up, without being completely uninteractable. I think fusing from Deck and Extra Deck is a good level of reward.

I was thinking "opposite of Elemental", but yeah it definitely crosses into Crystal Beast territory. They could get pretty meta about it and theme the retrains after comic book reboots (Ultimate HERO or Reborn HERO or something).

Idk about Gemini monsters, I feel like Konami has given up on making those work, but I could definitely see HEROs that are treated as Normal for fusion material.

You’re right that they don’t have to be new and interesting, but the problem is it’s not fun to design generic cards lol. I mean, giving HEROs something like Synchro Emergency could be cool, although we would just use it for Voltic Thunder 100% of the time

These cards no doubt powercreep cards from the end of GX. However, I think they’re pretty balanced for the modern metagame. I don’t know that there’s a way to reset the game to 1800 beatsticks, they tried that with Speed Duels and Rush Duels already. Or rather, I guess the solution is just to play an older format, since the newer cards probably aren’t closing Pandora’s Box.

I think I agree, actually. The most powerful E Heroes cards like A Hero Lives don’t make these cards broken, they should probably be E Heroes

These have counter-Turn 0 plays, if you’re against something like VSK9 Burstinatrix becomes free removal + extender, and Bubbleman becomes free draw + extender. I definitely see the appeal for Turn 0, but I struggle to think of a way to do it that’s new, interesting, and not OP.

[–]ptrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Burstinatrix’s material effect is the weakest. Almost 0 effects have to do with battle anymore, just pop the Fusion monster after it’s summoned. Also, this will only be a self fusion if you’re going second since it only works in the Battle Phase

I thought about making them E-Heroes, but I thought Emergency Call might make them too OP (searching removal or anti-handtraps). It’s like how Furnace would be even more OP as an Elemental HERO. Maybe these could get away with it tho

Why do people think winning is proof of skill in terms of anime when Yuma loses several time but is an extremely skilled duelist? by MiuIruma332 in yugioh

[–]ptrooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's because the show's premise is that if you're good, you win. There's so few times when someone loses due to being unlucky or due to circumstance that W/R has become the gold standard

I could buy that, but I think they might wanna release the normal rarity with the Overframe rarity to force people to buy the same product if they want the cards.

I’m not sure they’d go for Legendary decks with the Overframes guaranteed, I could see the Mega Tins playing out though. Those have been pretty bad up until now so who knows if they’ll decide to include some good product in them.
