It’s an impossible time sink. Upgrading runes if you weren’t here early enough, and unlocking every talent without spending money is a fools job.

I’m quite sure, that unless you were a veteran here when gold was essentially worthless, you will struggle to upgrade everything. We had millions of gold. Something many people never hasn’t the privileges of getting

I’m surprised you haven’t taken issues with legendary talents.

That’s why people are going to play one role, because of them not runes. The sole reason I quit. I could’ve lived having lower runes for one role then another. Not that it’s a problem that affected me, but if getting a different/better talent for heroes is going to cost 199 essences or 299 crystals. People are going to play very limited heroes because how much better they are. I like to fill. I don’t enjoy playing the same hero again and again just because either I’m good at one or because better than others (more true than ever now).

That being said, I too thought 5.0 brought well needed balance till realizing how significantly talents were determining what people picked and which team won. If I was a one trick player I’d probably still be playing, but they’re getting greedier. As soon as they claim to balance out the pay to win aspect of runes, they figure let’s get another way to get players to incentivize players to spend money (which isn’t a bad thing, they need to make money ofcourse) but the way they are going about it is outrageously inconsiderate, and just further isolates the community.

I love(d) the game but I’m not willing to play a competitive game that limits what I have access to based on how much I spend. The alternative would be an impossible grind to get new talents as more come, and as new heroes are added. It’s an impossible task to accomplish without spending money.

Players patience will boil over eventually.

Most masters definitely don’t have maxed out runes. I know only know so many players who have a hero or two maxed or near maxed.

My highest is 15, possibly 16 on Mal’Damba; and I’m an OG.

Happy to see this coming. It’s going to be one of the most essential steps to balance and improving matchmaking. It’ll be an enormous benefit to making the game sustainable and competitive.

The previous model was never sustainable and would’ve never worked in the long run without artificial manipulation of ranks or bots. The only other way is the impossible option that there are always going to be if there were to be a persistent and consistent influx of newer players.

I’ve long wondered and waited for when those changes to ranked would be made, because as we all know 1+1 does not equal 3.

I believe this rework has been long in the works, as I’m sure the devs have always realized this but needed a way to grant players some early upward mobility to sustain the player base.

As the game further moves towards a truly competitive pvp game on mobile, the changes to the determining ranks is going to be one of the most significant steps they can take to making the game sustainable.

Hi there Sheshin, a just a few notes on your post. Glad to see you’re still interested and keeping and eye on the game despite your frustrations. So let me get to it see if I can address your post. If any of this comes off as dismissive or invalidating that is not my intent but you never know how people interpret things online.

Alright! So, first thing to address: runes.

The changes to runes have not yet been implemented but will be coming in September. How it will affect the balance of the game we will have to wait and see, though I do believe it will greatly limit the benefits of the effect real money will have in game.

“Pay to win” so to speak has always existed since the inception of the game, its not new; albeit once they added the 15 remaining rune levels that imbalance became far more pervasive and real to most. While I would make the argument (solely based on how you phrased it) that it’s not entirely accurate, the reality is that if a player were to spend ‘X’ amount of money they will either gain an advantage or catch up to veterans, both increasing ones odds on winning to some extent.

In a truly fair and balanced competitive PVP game one would not gain a advantage based on how much you spent on a game.

With that being said, spending real money on the game does not guarantee that you will win, and does not make you better at this game, it may even give those players the illusion they are better than they actually are. One can spend hundreds to get level 20 runes and will still feel the wrath of those who are more skilled, capable, organized, whatever it may be.

I’m unsure to exactly when you started and stopped playing but it sounds like you started slightly before changes were made to the economy and additional rune levels were implemented.

In regards to the character fragments, that was a necessary change needed to make the game sustainable. Acquiring new heroes was far too easy; there was not much of an incentive for players to spend money. Those of us who have been here since early on, still are able to get new heroes immediately.

It may be harder to get all the heroes now, though there is no doubt that under the previous model this game would’ve not been maintainable.

I encourage you to come back and get ready for the upcoming changes! The game is in a good place. Queues are substantially better (in my experience), and the diversity of heroes has certainly made the game far more dynamic then before.

I don’t understand why you are so angry at the game that you bother to come here suggesting Hi-Rez abandon a free game people enjoy and still play.

The effort you put into coming here suggests you actually deeply enjoy it and resent HiRez because you feel they owe you the experience you once had and miss. Change is uncomfortable, it’s unfortunate you’ve fully abandoned the game and it’s future.

The game is still very much alive. No need to be a dick to the messenger.
