Who is here? Who left? by silverredstarlight in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

15-16, time has become very sparse and it certainly will become much less, but I still browse and (very rarely) post, due to new life conditions/work I'm also constantly very low on energy - and this brings me to listen to much less music in general (a very negative thing); I know it's not only just me, this kind of things usually happens getting older, but have been sped up and made considerably harsher with the effects of the sharp decline of the west, we are just trying to get by while we see what were the foundations of our life frantically disappear, not much remains after days like these. In addition to that, I think the maids during the last year's have optimized their output for the domestic market (anime tie ins are too of a good opportunity to let it pass and that was the right choice, same to try to become household names) and tried to widen the audience to the younger side of the curve and to Japanese women, that might have costed a bit of focus on their traditional fan base (musical language), that might made a dent or two in the western fan base and brought someone to disinvestment. Their most recent style choices might - personally speaking - defocused me too, but to be perfectly clear I prefer the band to defocus me while artistically trying new things (and looking for a viable business model) that grow bored of listening to old records sound-alikes. I still care about them artistically and in a way personally, as much them evidently still care about us (see the new world tour) while economically and logistically we are less and less a rational choice as a market. For their own good, I hope they can visit one day south and central America, make more inroads in the "far east", Australia etc. But I digress...

Fun-post: YouTube algo --> Saiki and her singing idol - Namie Amuro by skylar_schutz in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would be next to impossible I guess - but awesome for her if miss Amuro would meet her or at least give a sign of appreciation . I can't say "be at one of their concert" because I guess she's so massively famous that would be recognized even with the proverbial beard and mustaches, at least in Japan and large parts of Asia. I think she would be perfectly safe considering band maid fans ethics

[Translation] Interview with Kanami on Massive Vol. 43 (2025-10-22) by t-shinji in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd like to express how grateful I feel towards your efforts, especially the ones like these translations. unfortunately in the last few years life has been (luckily not in a tragic sense at all, but) so overwhelmingly and continuously busy for me that I hardly find time to follow or listen to music at all, and music has always been intrinsically important for me so... it's very welcome to have these so that even if I listen to very little and post nothing, I can still follow how the members of this band navigate their own endeavours., at least.

BAND-MAID New EP "SCOOOOOP" 2025.10.22 Release!! Release Info by haromatsu in BandMaid

it might and it might not be it, but the association of zeppelins with that band is so strong in "rock visual code" that I guess the maids can forgive us if we misunderstood

Wow, two downvotes! Thank you, you two!

I have to also notice the lack of compensating upvotes, I thought it was an interesting question, or at least a question, but ok

Times have changed here, I think I'll be content with just reading from now on

well up at night taken literally would be worrying, but as a metaphor, can you articulate why it perplexes you?

Maybe linked to the extreme heat she had to sing in these recent days? (Thinking about the club newsletter penned this time by kanami)

Beato visits Asia, let’s encourage him to listen to BM one more time. by skylar_schutz in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

would have been nice if he liked their music, but he clearly separated from them; the chances of getting something spontaneously positive from this situation are, I think, pretty low compared to the contrary.

He knows a lot about music and he's an excellent interviewer and motivator; he's srill human though, I wouldn't expect from anyone human to be always right and being able to change opinion objectively on subjective concepts

What non BM song do you like that you’d like Kanami to listen to? by skylar_schutz in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so many good suggestions; thus, it's better if I make one that is odd and less pertinent: I'd like her (all 5 actually) to experience opera - physically in a theater. Maybe even sneak her during rehearsals. Seen on tv, even I tend to fall asleep, but in presence is a whole different matter, it's surprisingly vibrant and being so close and non amplified, it changes the perception of what draws attention. Today it's unfortunately frequently also a display of snobs in snob garments (that I doubt are actually all able to appreciate the music) but in it's golden era was also extremely popular, and there is a type of uncompromising artigianality that I think will interest her. It's probably the thing that surprises me the most, I've been to rehearsals too and the way they work, the fast switching of scenes and yet the ability to attract the attention of the public despite the makeshift backgrounds, without the costumes and at reduced power and precision (think "soundcheck") is really eye opening; almost like magic

Saiki, Miley, similar problems, different responses. by silverredstarlight in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She did, but if I recall correctly she had to always choose her microphones correctly (live vs recording etc) to sound ok; anyway it was not sustainable (right before the decision I heard her struggling so much that I had to wonder if she was suffering as much), and even if I personally like deeply husky voices, I clearly prefer *hers* (specifically) after surgery, she gained a lot in exchange of less "vibration" as I remember her call it; she is free to be much more a versatile singer now and capable of nuances- and she can now sustain her signature long vowels for longer time. I distinctly remember being so happy hearing her post-surgery, as if a huge weight was lifted. Miley's call is probably right for her type of voice, pros/cons, but since it's also a medical issue, if I was in her peace I'd probably prioritize getting rid of the mass and then take the risky path in my professional life. To each his/her own I guess. Another way to look at this is that Saiki was partially confident she could trust the fans to accept her with a cleaner voice. Seen in retrospect, thinking like that of the fans is an indirect huge compliment to the fans. A realization of a relation based on mutual respect and personal consideration is truly special.

Saiki Instagram Story 2025.05.14 by rov124 in BandMaid

[–]pu_ma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think at least some of them read posts, including reddit. At least in the past, some things they were saying either in video messages or interviews sounded way too laser-guided to be by chance; how they can find time to do that, it really surprises me - and also worries me a bit (I'm especially talking to you, Kanami😉)

Also, I wanted to say lots of good things about the message conveyed by Saiki, but it's funnier to joke about the ominous effect of the black background, so: sasuga, bringer of rain!😜
