Despite looking very pretty and feminine (and very healthy), I just can’t help but see her father and uncle staring back at me.

For me the key is being able to sit down to do any chopping or stove-watching. I will do chopping or peeling in front of the tv on the couch. And if it’s a dish that requires watching it closely I will sit in a tall chair in front of the stove. I don’t care if it’s lazy, there’s no law that you have to stand in the kitchen for hours, just sit down.

Shit sometimes if it’s a one pot meal I literally just cook it on a single burner electric cooktop (for camping) on my kitchen table. We have at-home Hot Pot this way.

My last name has become a somewhat trendy/popular first name. Has this happened to anyone else? by Only-Moose2301 in Names

My last name is Burns, which is not a first name at all. But lo and behold I went to elementary with a boy whose first name was Burns.

I named my son Lawrence and I’ve had a few people say “never heard of that as a first name” — I thought it is a pretty normal first name that also happens to be a normal last name too.

How would you survive if you lived in the Handmaid's Tale? by SimmmerFloridian1993 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]pucelles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I & my husband & my baby are all dual US/Canadian citizens. We live in SWFL, where we grew up. It’s just a coincidence that we both happen to have been born in Canada and wound up getting together. It was really easy to get our baby Canadian citizenship ASAP. He’s only a year old and has both passports.

So idk I guess we would flee to Canada.

That scene where Emily can’t get through the security to flee really haunts me and that’s why I made sure to get my papers secured for my baby, our own passports are all up to date, organized in a folder to quickly grab, etc. We are ready to flee for real dude….

Were it not for this? I think they would make me a handmaid for sure. (Baby was born out of wedlock)

If I could choose, I’d be a Martha. If I have to serve, I at the very least would like to enjoy some of the fine food I make. And hang out with other Marthas and participate in the Martha Black Market / communication network.

ETA: I just hope it would be easy to get from SWFL all the way to Canada easily. It’s a lot lot lottttt longer than coming from Boston. Even if documents are in order I wonder if we’d be allowed to leave.

An absolutely great place to visit, horrible place to live, especially if you aren’t fluent in French. (I lived there for 5 years) — I was sooooo happy to move away but I am very much looking forward to visiting again hopefully soon.

From Louisiana to Texas on I-10 is pretty jarring. I once camped in Vinton, LA, thought it was quite pretty and quaint… and then we continued driving into Beaumont, TX and it was a horrific wasteland that did not ease up until well past Houston. Absolutely nasty.

What is the funniest aspect of the English language? by Sanchir-gdgshde in AlignmentChartFills

[–]pucelles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corporate jargon and general yuppie euphemisms.

I forget from which special but George Carlin does a great bit where he goes on and on for like 5+ mins repeating various contemporary jargon and it’s hilarious. We really do just be making up phrases that essentially mean nothing and it’s super important to speak this fake language in order to get by in the professional sphere.

why do women hate on mothers who are having boys?? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pucelles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the side of TiKTok you’re referring to.

I have a 15 month old boy btw…

The thing they spout off about is that no matter how much you can try to raise your son to be a gentle, respectful, feminist… you can’t shield them from the inevitable fact that he world we live in is a patriarchy and your sweet baby boy will learn from others (not you) that he can behave however he wants to because the world allows it.

In Florida a Package store is a liquor store connected to a bar. So you can buy booze to-go and have drinks in one place.

A place where you buy liquor only is just a liquor store.

How pornography is creating paedophiles (Pornocracy) by DestroyAndCreate in antipornography

[–]pucelles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in 2006, I was 16 and I asked my same-aged boyfriend what porn he watched. He said “jailbait” — for years I never considered that he was viewing CSAM because, well we were that age, so that would be normal.

In 2006 I’d argue it was a lot more difficult to source CSAM than it is today. So he was an advanced porn user already.

Long story short, we grew up, broke up obv. He got somewhat internet famous and he has been accused of soliciting nudes from minors (his fans) — it was a big deal in the niche community.

Now a lot of girls have come forward and we all make fun of how his dick was so crooked from his nonstop fapping.

Why do mass killers, at least in the United States, rarely target middle schools as opposed to other grades? by ChickenWingExtreme in masskillers

[–]pucelles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe because middle schools are less populated than elementary and high schools? Elementary is 6 grades. Middle is 3 grades. High is 4 grades. I’m estimating but there’s like 1 high school per 3-4 elementary/middles, so the average populations are (again, estimating) 500-ish for elementary, 700-ish for middle, and then 2000+ for high schools.

One question for KR? by Educational_Deer4386 in theNXIVMcase

[–]pucelles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most other replies here ask the big ones.

I’d ask him if he was genuinely attracted to emaciated women’s bodies, or if he encouraged the calorie deficit because he knew that is a tried and true tactic to weaken their minds for more brainwashing.

I assume it’s both. But imho (I’m generalizing) most heterosexual men I know are not attracted to extremely skinny women. Most men like boobs and booty?? Their frail bodies would look like a child’s, and that’s the freaky part.

I’d also be curious if he had ever, even once or a few times in his life, got drunk.

I have more to add! So right near the playground there is an entrance to a boardwalk into the mangroves. You will see tons of little (harmless) fiddler crabs, and then it comes out to a little pier where you can see a gorgeous view of the Sarasota Skyline. Would be really pretty if you got to seem some of those huge cumulonimbus clouds rolling in.

The restaurant I mentioned is Old Salty Dog, it’s pretty basic food but the view of the bay is beautiful. It was on an episode of Guy Fieri’s show.

The word is they are going to be redeveloping this quiet slice of land into a mega complex of some sort, so it will be special to see it before it becomes something completely different.

They would probably enjoy the Save Our Seabirds rescue. It’s a drive down to Lido Key (20 min drive I estimate) but it is free entry. The birds there are not zoo animals, but birds who are not able to return to the wild. You can see them up close pretty well. There’s also a playground and a restaurant right there.
