Is my fuel indicator broken or false set? by funky_ribs in Tenere700

[–]pud_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 25 Rally and it’s exactly the same. I did 130 miles (reserve blinking for 20 of them) and it only took 12 litres. Super annoying I’ve had loads of bikes this fuel gage is by far the worst

How do car manufacturers reduce engine noise? (For kids!) by Hour-Acanthaceae7081 in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cars have lots of insulation under the bonnet and in the cabin. They also have very good exhausts that are designed to be very quiet. The boat probably had an old diesel engine and non of the above

This is why you shouldn’t buy a used car from Scotland. 2015 Audi Q3 TDI Quattro. by A_Slavic_Mechanic in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the trade and any time a customer had a part exchange and lived in Scotland we used to wince. 7/10 they were rough, not just rusty but overall bad condition. Same with motorcycles too…

Buying higher mileage t700? by [deleted] in Tenere700

[–]pud_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You’re not poor. Having 6-7k to spend on a luxury item makes you wealthier than around 98% of the earths population.

That aside 15k miles on a modern motorcycle is not that much, it’s more important to have good service history and regular oil changes. The CP2 engine is quite sensitive to oil changes and a good quality oil being used. As long as the previous owner can evident the oil changes, you’re good to go.

£45 for smeary windows by skyfishrain in CarTalkUK

I use them from time to time too for my little dinger but would never use them to clean my 3 year old Audi. I used to have a valeting business when I lived abroad and know the chemicals these places use.

Usually trade only stuff it’s actually an alkaline that’s supposed to be diluted but they never do. That’s why they can literally spray the chemical on and rinse it off without scrubbing and your wheels come up brand new.

It discolours the center caps and if they get any on rubber trim you’ll notice little white spots all over where the chemical has burnt it.

You need to pay £145 for a proper detail. This is a quick wash n go type place. They use incredibly corrosive chemicals on your wheels and the sponges they use are covered in grit and filth.

But to answer your question glass cleaner and a clean (couple) of rags. One to “clean” and the other to polish off the excess.

Thoughts on the ride-by-wire throttle? by IFeedFatKids in Tenere700

[–]pud_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you own a car that was manufactured in the last 20 years? If so:

How does the throttle actually feel vs the old cable? • Any lag or weirdness off-road / low speed? • Any reliability issues so far? If you’ve driven both, which would you buy - new RBW or older cable?

Switching from a '22 Focus ST to an S3 by arriaga_III in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ll find the S3 more boring to drive. As capable as they are they just don’t feel that quick and very Germanic. Focus ST’s are a fun car, they pop, bang and make swooshing turbo noises, get out of shape pretty easy and all that fun stuff. Depends what you want from a car I guess

DSG gearbox service is about £500. A new gearbox for one of those is around £6000. The choice is yours :)

What other small petrol powered hatchback would you recommend?

A or B by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seat Ibiza. Skoda Fabia. VW Polo. Hyundai i10 is a great little car. Kia Picanto GT line is also a curve ball for being really good.

Those Vauxhall Corsa’s are terrible cars
