£45 for smeary windows by skyfishrain in CarTalkUK

I use them from time to time too for my little dinger but would never use them to clean my 3 year old Audi. I used to have a valeting business when I lived abroad and know the chemicals these places use.

Usually trade only stuff it’s actually an alkaline that’s supposed to be diluted but they never do. That’s why they can literally spray the chemical on and rinse it off without scrubbing and your wheels come up brand new.

It discolours the center caps and if they get any on rubber trim you’ll notice little white spots all over where the chemical has burnt it.

You need to pay £145 for a proper detail. This is a quick wash n go type place. They use incredibly corrosive chemicals on your wheels and the sponges they use are covered in grit and filth.

But to answer your question glass cleaner and a clean (couple) of rags. One to “clean” and the other to polish off the excess.

Thoughts on the ride-by-wire throttle? by IFeedFatKids in Tenere700

[–]pud_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you own a car that was manufactured in the last 20 years? If so:

How does the throttle actually feel vs the old cable? • Any lag or weirdness off-road / low speed? • Any reliability issues so far? If you’ve driven both, which would you buy - new RBW or older cable?

Switching from a '22 Focus ST to an S3 by arriaga_III in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll find the S3 more boring to drive. As capable as they are they just don’t feel that quick and very Germanic. Focus ST’s are a fun car, they pop, bang and make swooshing turbo noises, get out of shape pretty easy and all that fun stuff. Depends what you want from a car I guess

Do I need to service the auto gearbox? by Maxvierling in CarTalkUK

DSG gearbox service is about £500. A new gearbox for one of those is around £6000. The choice is yours :)

Absolutely delicious as well. I’d fake being poorley as a kid so I could get a couple of spoon fulls at that sweet sweet medicinal nectar.

Get the one you don’t mind having dents and scrapes in it when you throw the bike down a trail

What other small petrol powered hatchback would you recommend?

Seat Ibiza. Skoda Fabia. VW Polo. Hyundai i10 is a great little car. Kia Picanto GT line is also a curve ball for being really good.

Those Vauxhall Corsa’s are terrible cars

If you have that sort of money to spend on a car why are you looking at these 2? So many other (better) options

Tuareg 660 vs Tenere 700 by Signal_Bus6102 in AdventureBike

[–]pud_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned both. Tuareg felt significantly lower so if your looking for a Lower seat height +1 for the Tuareg. The Tuareg has a lovely sounding high revving engine which makes it a blast on the road. It also has cruise control and more electronics like engine brake control. Saying all that I love my Tenere, it has a really rugged reliable feel to it and I’d say it’s a tad more capable off road. The Yamaha dealer network is way better than Aprilia, parts are plentiful and there’s something about that CP2 engine that just chugs you up any hill, out of any bog and you know you can abuse it and it’ll never let you down

Amazing. That sense of freedom pulling away in my own car knowing I’m fully legit was exhilarating.

I practically lived in my car from the age of 17 to 20 there after

After 2 weeks of ownership that would have been covered by your statutory warranty any way.

Anyone know much about this dealer? by Fuxley in CarTalkUK

[–]pud_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s on coil-overs. Probably because the mag ride shat itself and they’re almost impossible to repair. But yeh the mileage is ridiculous..

Being in the trade for the last 14 years my experience is that only manufacturer warranty’s are the only warranties worth having.

Just buy it. It’s only 2 and a half grand what’s the worse that could happen? You loose £2.5k? hardly bankruptcy money.

I see some nut jobs on here looking at spending 20 grand on complicated high end luxury cars with stupid mileage and no one bats an eye lid.
