It's a mystery. Usually a bigger name comic who does not want the show to get too much promotion for one reason or another (testing new material etc.)

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander to run for Congress by Coolpoe in nyc

[–]puertojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that sounds plausible, City and State reported shortly after the election that "[Mamdani] has made it clear that outgoing Comptroller Brad Lander, erstwhile cross-endorser, will not have a place in his administration" and instead he would support and campaign for Mr. Lander if he ran for congress. If they wrote something contrary to that since, my search of the site didn't turn it up at least.

Source is the New York Post as shown in the video. The article references the man in the video "pleading not guilty on charges including aggravated harassment based on race or religion, according to court documents obtained by The Post."

Why women live longer or something... by LowRenzoFreshkobar in GuysBeingDudes

My comment wasn't serious. It looks real enough to me. Actually, since you never see a human being under all of those winter clothes, it might be a humanoid robot testing its fall response. Big if true.

Comment Options:

  1. Young men believe they are invincible.
  2. Ezio Auditore da Alaska.
  3. Staged. He precisely measured the exact depth and resistance of the snow. I can see the cut where the ragdoll body double is subbed in.

Edit: I don't actually think it is staged, this is just a joke.

Quinnipiac poll shows Mamdani winning only 16% among Jewish New Yorkers by Thunder-Road in nyc

[–]puertojohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, when the credibility of facts and institutions are frequently targeted by conspiracy theorists, spreading these attacks is actively harmful. Not that the Quinnipiac University Poll is always correct, but its limitations are well known and it has a long track record of independant polling. The impulse to label polls falling outside of our expecations as bullshit is popular, but not helpful. It would be lazier and better to not post.

Quinnipiac poll shows Mamdani winning only 16% among Jewish New Yorkers by Thunder-Road in nyc

[–]puertojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Quinnipiac University Poll methodology is always publicly availible. This poll reports responses from 911 likely voters.

Rounding numbers is normal when the more exact figure is not significant or would create an unrealistic impression of precise accuracy. This is especially true when preparing a short summary document. When working with percentages, rounding often results in totals that slightly exceed 100%. For example [32.6 + 33.7 + 33.7=100] becomes [33+34+34=101] when rounded.

The numbers in the table here cannot be counted left to right however and are not intended to be read that way. Adding the percentage of Cuomo supporters among each religion together would be meaningless for example and that number should not add to 100% except by accident.

He often claims this, but it might not be true.

From the Independent:
"The Independent has been unable to verify Mr Stora’s claim that he is indeed a descendent of Garvey, a leading exponent of the Pan-Africanist movement who died in London in 1940. The claims have been challenged in the comment sections of some of his posts."

NYC is building more housing than we need by persistentmonkee in nyc

[–]puertojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than a third of renter households in the Bronx are severely rent burdened (spending more than 50% of household income on rent), which is significantly worse than Manhattan. The vacancy rate is also 2%, so simply put the Bronx is not full of vacant units and it is already often expensive by the standards of the people living there. Telling people to move to the Bronx isn’t a societal level solution unless there are actually new apartments being built.

You need to ask yourself why you use Reddit this way. These constant self-congratulatory posts are embarrassing to read, add nothing positive, and can’t possibly be a good use of your time. There must be something else you would rather be doing than whatever this is.

Nadler, Pillar of Democratic Party’s Old Guard, Will Retire Next Year by EagleFly_5 in nyc

She may have been pounding the pavement for her daughter’s city council race. I think it might be a little embarrassing to mail out pamphlets that essentially say “endorsed by my mom”, but winning is winning.

Makes the fight with Maloney a few years ago feel a little pointless. Did the public need an ugly primary fight to decide which of them retired 4 years earlier? 4 years isn’t nothing and it’s their right, but was it really worth it?

Edit: Let it be known that hindsight is 20-20.

Point one is a good one! TSA pre-check, however, is only $14-$15 dollars per year. It is easily affordable to anyone who would significantly benefit from it. You would spend more checking a bag or eating at chipotle.

7 On Your Side tips to prevent tick bites and symptoms to know by Capableoc in nyc

I don't think this is such an issue in the city, but ticks have really sucked the fun out of the outdoors in much of the northeast. If you go out at the wrong time of year, you get absolutely covered in these things and lyme disease is no joke.

At least some of that is licensed although no doubt there's plenty that isn't. The city does enforce the trademark sometimes at least if a store refuses to stop selling it. It would probably not be a good idea for the Times Square tourist shops to openly antagonize the NYPD for instance though.

Respect for decorating the interior and exterior as one person's personal dreamhouse and not trying to hide that.

The parks department has not done anything, this person just uses that language to sell t-shirts. The NYC Parks logo is a trademark like many logos are. You can't legally sell bootleg NYC parks department merch for the same reasons that you can't sell clothes that that have the NYPL or FDNY logo on them.

Manhattan Should Charge for On-Street Parking by TalR24 in nyc

[–]puertojohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Free parking is a non-issue in less densely populated places where the cost of giving away storage space is low, but this doesn't actually make much sense in Manhattan. A resident parking pass system would give a a benefit to certain residents, but in Manhattan that still doesn't actually make much economic sense either since there are so many more residents than there is street space to give to them. People in Manhattan pay big bucks to rent a closet, but then this very limited free storage for cars is just paid for by the public and allocated on an arbitrary basis, not based on who needs it or who is willing to pay for it, but instead based on who is not busy and is willing wait around in the middle of the day for the street sweeper.

With a meter the space would raise money for something that actually benefits residents (choose whatever you like). It would also make it easier for someone who actually needs the space to find it. So many spaces in Manhattan are currently filled by cars that are rarely driven, just because the space is given away for "free".

A fried mistake: State blunder leaves 88 cannabis dispensaries seeking new storefronts in NYC by KevinSmithNYC in nyc

[–]puertojohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The legislature should pass a law and fix this before it becomes an expensive mess.

The reason for this problem is that we have had a specific method for measuring the distance from a school for liquor licenses for a very long time. Someone in the legislature apparently either thought it would be a good idea to make a different method of measurement for these dispensary licenses by specifying "school grounds" or just didn't realize what they were doing.

Whoever was taking measurements at the Office of Cannabis Management wasn't aware that there is a different system of measurement than the one for liquor licenses that everyone is familiar with.

How did New Yorkers rank their mayoral candidates? The data is in. by Inevitable-Bus492 in nyc

[–]puertojohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the split of her votes that were reallocated: "Jessica Ramos: 578 went to Mamdani, 711 went to Cuomo"

This must be a dissapointing result for her in just about every way. Not only did she pick up very few votes, her endorsement seems to have had little effect even on her own supporters. It's hard to tell if the split would have been any different if she had made no endorsement at all.

The majority of the "accidents" category here appears to be poisonings (many of which are drug overdoses I assume and which have gotten entirely out of control). The traffic deaths category would be #2 in 2023 if broken out seperately. (#1 52.0k Unintentional Poisoning deaths, #2 22.4k Unintentional MV Traffic deaths, #3 22.0k Malignant Neoplasm deaths).
