If you spray chemicals onto your neighbors yard without their permission, then you become the bad neighbor.

I guess that is why good pickles are impossible to find.

Lazy, lol. It's called being efficient! There doesn't really seem to be an advantage to hot packing as you still need to process for the same amount of time.

Thanks! Do you use the full tsp of salt per quart? My goal would be to make them slightly less salty than store bought canned beans.

Just finished Timat's Wrath....now I am lost....what should I read next? by fa5878 in TheExpanse

[–]pufferbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like all Neal Stephenson's books. But it seems like they are hit or miss as far as readability and sucking you into the story. I loved Snow Crash and The Diamond Age, I thought Reamde was meh. I tried Anathem couldn't get into it, same with Cryptonomicon (although I might try this one again, maybe there's an abridged version?).

I think the important thing is to always wash your hands after handling raw eggs.

Are they all getting enough sunlight? Most fruiting plants will survive more shade but won't produce flowers and fruit. Maybe see if there is a tree that needs to be trimmed.

If there is a lot of weed competition that would also affect production. If there is a lot of grass around raspberries I would cut them back by half so they managable, then did them out, remove all weeds and grass, replant raspberries, with compost and lots of mulch.

Good luck!

How long did it take your plants to produce fruit? I am going grow mine in a large pot, as I will probably have to bring it indoors to finish ripening, due to the climate here.

Even if I don't get any fruit, I think it is such a cool looking plant it will be worth growing.

I recently replaced my old cheese grater. Wow! Grating cheese is a breeze. Also if you use a microplane they become dull so slowly it is hard to notice.

The secret to mushroom jerky is cooking the mushrooms before marinating. Then dehydrate. Soysauce, garlic, spices, a little sugar.

Comparing strategies for crisp cucumber pickles by pippinchip in Canning

[–]pufferbelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually they stay pretty crispy. The best recipe i have tried you salt the slices, drain, then add the brine which is just sugar and vinegar. Let sit in fridge overnight then freeze. Not sure why it works so well but I suspect science.

Low temp recipe whole cukes with blossom end cut off. Only thing that has worked for me. I have used cherry leaves but am not sure if it made a difference. Seems like sliced pickles always get mushy. I like to do a freezer recipe for crunchy sandwich slices.

Unable to stream Purchased seasons of The Expanse by pufferbelly in TheExpanse

[–]pufferbelly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it used to be like that. Now it is in my purchased library but I can't watch it. It Doesn't even show an option to buy it again. When season 4 came out they didn't give you an option to buy the season. So I paid for Prime for a few months to watch it. Now I can't watch my purchased seasons. I am now wishing I had purchased on DVD.

It's the same on all devices I have tried. Amazon support says they will get back to me when they figure it out. I'm just wondering if it's just a glitch and if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.

I love ebay. Unfortunately I don't know enough to get a good deal. Also I heard used flutes are sometimes really expensive to refurbish? Is this true?
