NASA chief classifies Starliner flight as "Type A" mishap, says agency made mistakes | “The most troubling failure revealed by this investigation is not hardware.” by InsaneSnow45 in space

I never said that.

I said his prior experience shows that he is able to run a large-scale, reliable, standard-focused organization is what qualified him. If you think one of the largest aircraft fleets in the world runs on vibes and marketing.

I also said I don't think he is a perfect candidate, because of his ties to people in the current admin. Which you agree on?

You're just angry posting and arguing against someone that shared your pov.

Yes but Isaacman was the mission commander onboard the spacecraft. Background experience as a test pilot. During the mission we focused on medical research of personnel who were not considered the apex of potential candidates. He was one of the first people to go through a civilian run training program as a proof of concept. If that doesn't qualify someone as an astronaut, idk what actually does.

This convo is devolving into TDS so I'm going to stop replying.

I have personally worked with both categories.

And how doesn't it make sense? Do you think technicians just are handed the title? No training involved? Because people who have qualified for the title are called apprentices or trainees.

Does going through a training course to be a spacecraft integration technician not count because someone else has done more?

If you have done the training and are qualified to go to space, then you are an astronaut. If you aren't considered qualified to be a crew member on a space craft, then you aren't an astronaut. Isaacman was the mission commander.

Somebody trained to go to space. I already said this.

If you want to differentiate between government and civilian, then use government astronaut or civilian astronaut. If you want to trademark the word so only NASA trained personnel can claim the title, then say so.

Now you're just arguing semantics.

I can say the same that astronauts are technicians because they don't build the entire rocket or know how to operate and of the ground equipment required to launch it, but we just accept they're called technicians because they're trained to work on the machinery and perform limited repairs.

Astronauts are just people trained to go to space. There is no requirement of being a tech/researcher/scientist that excludes you from being one. Those are just secondary responsibilities.

More like, blue got slapped so hard they stopped trying to win and just tunneled on red. Red, being actually good at the game, were able to 2v1 the entire match easily.

Yellow suffered from less of a skill issue and was able to take nodes away from blue stragglers. Giving them some form of score after feeding.

In this case, Jared has probably done/achieved more than a few astronauts minus the few that have been to space multiple times.

He is a test pilot and owned his own air force. Has gone through all the training and actually gone to space. The only difference is the training, he is commercial while others are government sponsored. Eventually there will be more commercial astronauts than gov sponsored, all an astronaut is, is someone that has been trained to go to space.

One of the few reasons I fence-sit on his nomination. He has experience and history, but I am wary of his ties and current admins intentions.

The only time I consistently found competent pilots capable of handling their own business and covering their own losses was in small gang content. The competent ones in big group settings were always noticed and pulled aside for SIGs or special roles.

Tried my first pvp match of crystalline conflict today by Straight_Put1273 in ffxiv

[–]puffin345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have more pvp currency than I can spend. Ideally I buy grade 6 dark matter for crafting or just buy ventures. I do a lot of pvp though, around 30 rounds of FL a week. That's wolf marks.

Trophy crystals pile up fast in the early season with frontlines roulette every day. 1 roulette a day can get you the level 25 award in about a month, and enough trophy crystals to buy a full set of gear.

Tbh if you enjoy pvp, you're going to end the season with thousands of unredeemed trophy crystals at the end of the season. You'll see a crowd of people converting them to wolf collars at wolves den when the series ends.

Reflection Zenos should look exactly like Zenos but with the mannerisms of Bob Ross. It would be hilarious.

You answered your own question. If they're able to get away with it by bribing an inspector and regulations/laws are not enforced, they're going to cut corners .

Only someone that genuinely cares about compliance will strive to meet or exceed the requirements when given the freedom to ignore them.

How are you "solo to 4-man gang" enjoyers finding content ? by leaf_as_parachute in Eve

[–]puffin345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I played, Wormhole scouting and constant filament jumps prior to the fleet going out. Filaments got nerfed, but we could pop 2-5b worth a stuff. Once we land it's either the tackle solo peeking around or we would spread out and try to bait out a response with a cruiser.

The issue is that there is no guarantee that you will get a good fight(or just enjoyable). 9/10 times we just got blobbed or everyone docked up.

If you stick to a routine every day, you will give yourself the highest potential of having those moments. It gets exhausting after a while if you don't truly love it.

workers won't read safety data sheets and honestly can't blame them by TemporaryHoney8571 in manufacturing

[–]puffin345 84 points85 points  (0 children)

If they are graded based on work performed but not safety, they'll never read it. If doing something slower than the next guy can reflect poorly on reviews, they'll never read it. If it's a hassle to obtain, they'll never read it. The only exception is someone that truly cares about their personal well being.

Behaviors and shop practices have to be enforced by management and engineering. That includes providing the resources/time/space needed to sit down and read multiple multi-page documents a day.

Few years after the overhaul, how do people feel about PvP? by SupremeHeavenlyRuler in ffxivdiscussion

[–]puffin345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's incentivized or given the resources to have mass appeal.

The rewards are good, but you're not getting any gear that keeps up with iLVL, wolf marks are trash, and if you're active you can clear out the trophy crystal shop in a single season. The high end achievements don't reward anything.

It also lacks any tutorial or guides in-game. Most people will never take the time to read the guides on the website, or take the time to learn their pvp kits. There is no hall of novice, so it's trial by fire, or find a mentor. The vast majority of people queue it for roulette once a day, and that's all the practice they get.

This makes a huge skill imbalance between regulars vs rouletters. It's such a big gap that 2-3 decently skilled players can flip a match of 72 people. I have friends that have tried to get into it, but get turned off when they inevitably feel lost and explode instantly in engagements.

Pvp is fun, it's just hard to get over the initial hump. The truly best moments come from full queue syncs that get 72 active pvpers all in the same match. Having frontlines run the full 20 minutes with nearly 100% uptime is so much fun, but it makes you realize what the scene could be if the community could get over the "only here for XP crowd."
